I would have loved to have you on my jury ?, I was convicted of something I didn't do based on purely circumstantial evidence.
thats because, at least in america, the is a massive decline in what is called "critical thinking skills"...
basically, its not that people are stupid (which means they cannot think) its that they are being "taught" to be ignorant; because ignorant people do what they are told.

sadly the jury system(and our entire voting system) is completely dependent on people actually having the ability to think; so thats not a good indication of where things are heading.

What does the NY Times expect from the upcoming report? [ref]

It may not say much.

According to the provision in the appropriations package, the report should include a detailed analysis of U.F.O. data held by the task force and other government bodies. The report is also supposed to flag any unidentified aerial phenomena that could be considered threats to national security, including whether they “may be attributed to one or more foreign adversaries.” In addition, it must provide “a detailed description of an interagency process” for collecting and analyzing U.F.O. reports in the future, as well as recommendations for improving and funding data collection and research.

I can see the summary now:

Are there unidentified aerial phenomena: Yes
Are they Aliens: No proof either way.
Is it a Danger: Maybe, better give us more funding

Well, Musk did say the one sure way to increase spending on space was to prove E.T.s.

Pretty much what we already knew .... except they are officially admitting there have been a large number of objects verified by multiple types of sensors and operating in ways that they can't explain .... could be a national security risk and risk to aviation. .... We'll have to look into it further.
Just enough information to satisfy the Senate demand.

I believe in UFO's, but not as any sort of threat to "national security". If aliens wanted to destroy us it would have been done a long time ago, we're pretty much defenseless against an intergalactic civilization.

However, I think we are going to be "attacked" by "them" as a way to attempt to unify our country, and as an excuse to extend our military powers everywhere. It's a great distraction, and a fantastic excuse to push our military and policies around the planet.

The American economy is substantially supported by wars and conflicts, whether it's directly or indirectly. Imagine how much money defense contractors are going to make on an "alien" war.

I used to watch NASA TV all the time. They used to talk regularly about systems to detect and model the trajectory of all asteroid type objects in our solar system.

They also wanted to build a system to prevent harm to human life from those asteroids potentially hitting earth! How quaint. A rock deflector!

Maybe we can ask the aliens for advanced energy storage technology..?

They come by every decade or so and drop off a new virus or politician to see if we can survive. ?

They watch our actions and reactions on their version of "Saturday Night Live". ?

They sit around a globe shaped round table and play poker to see which solar system gets to do the next test on Earth. ?

I knew a guy once who was so smart I swore he was part alien.
I picked his brain every chance I got and was always impressed and amazed.

You’re not wrong.

Oh yeah, Smoking Man passing through here at times, smelt the cigarette smoke! Once he was smoking a cigar.

Dogs can see them too.

Ok maybe these “aliens” are just us from the future? Aliens could be genetically evolved humans due to DNA manipulation. Maybe they have always been here hiding. I‘d suspect that no one will believe until they come knocking at our door, or make an appearance on the Late Night shows, or have a sit down talk with Whoopi on the View.

What if WE are the "aliens".

Bear with me here for a second.

Let's say there was a cataclysm on Earth hundreds of thousands of years ago that wiped most large life from the planet (there's scientific evidence of a few of these happening). Let's say that there were humans during that time period. Those people either went up into the sky, or down into the earth to survive that cataclysm. There's lots of ancient legends (across multiple continents) about us coming from the sky, or from underground. At some point after the dust had settled, we, the underground people, started to redevelop technologically.

What if it's possible that a group of humans that had escaped into space, ended up thriving there somehow, and evolved into what we now call "aliens". It's just "us" from a weird alternate future / past. Maybe they even came back and are living among us, just to see how we're doing, and maybe help out here and there.

It's not so different from what's happening now. Billionaires and governments are building bunkers deep in the ground, and other people are trying to leave the planet (Elon Musk). What if a meteor hit in a decade, and there was only people in underground bunkers, and Elon & his posse on Mars left alive.

Sounds like the a good plot for a science fiction book.

this reminds me of battlestar galactica and stargate :)
