I finally translated the manual online. It works like a charm! I got the diverter I wanted. Set voltage for triggering a SSR with a load, another set voltage for unloading the SSR. It needs power from 12v or 24v depending on the model but it will monitor a voltage up to 99v! Beautiful!

I would be more than happy to find out more about them quirks and the fix ...

Finally the AliExpress seller replaced the unit free of charge. In the meantime I got the first unit repaired, the guy fixing it said it was some big resistor that had failed and that was responsible for the part of the charge controller being connected to the battery. So now I have 2 units...

Me ... Not yet. On the other hand I am quite disappointed with the Mppt performance of SMG II. Today I was getting only about 124 watt from a string of 400 vdc and about 2500-3000 wp, while same string delivered 300 watt on a growatt min 6000 tl x on grid inverter!
