Sol-Ark responded..

Its not in name directed at poz, but man is it.. They go through and address all his complaints and slam him for not reading the manual..
Personally I see it nice to see some criticism.. Its a great machine, its over priced but there is no competition.
You paid a premium for the Sol-Ark and their much touted USA support. I would give them a ring. Report back about how it goes!! Not meant to be a dig or anything, just wondering how they do...
I'm not familiar with Overlander.
I have used the Renogy panels and have no complaints. They are difficult company to deal with for warranty however. They have always come through but emails will go weeks with no answer and I find I have escalate things to get them resolved.
I'm glad you read my post carefully.. I quite honestly was suggesting you call Sol-Ark. You did not put anywhere in there you have, or had any feed back from them on the issue. I asked in all honest how it goes, I am considering buying one in the future and wondering if the premium is worth it...
Just want to say thanks to all for the comments here. I am looking at something similar and it answers some of my questions.. Thanks to those who took the time to input!
Sorry for the delay in responding. I don't get notified of new posts for some reason.. I need to figure that out.
Short answer is it works great.
Long answer.. It has been problem free since install and does what its suppose to. One long power outage and the Renogy 100Ah battery I have on it...
If solar or grid is an option. A DC2DC charger provides power while your driving. A little extra load. I run a Renogy 50A DC2DC on my 2019 Ford F150. It has a 240a alternator. Its made no notable changes in my gas mileage.
I have some solar on the trailer and plan on adding more. In the mean...
Maybe they changed the description but its there?

Only rated down to 41f though..
Power the unit down and then disconnect solar all together. Do testin with just alternator and no solar connected.
Whats the state of charge on the House batteries? If they are close to chare and the Solar is outputing power it may use just the solar.
Is your RV using a smart Alternator...
The current version of it still being sold with the same part number is modified sine.. Guess it is true. I will need to think long and hard on this ;-)
Current Version
Thanks Bud for the question that pointed me in the right general direction :)
I was thinking a large gauge of wire for the extension cord from the truck inverter to the trailer more for physical protection then need of wire size. Saying that though I realized that I would be far better off with some loom and a cheaper cable.
As I read @FilterGuy 's guides I realize that...
Being lazy and certainly knowing better I wanted easy..
I metered the power out of the Battery connection with and without the battery connected. The charger on the battery watch dog holds it at about 12.9V.
So I swapped in my Renogy Lifepo4 12v 100Ah and my Victron Charger.. Charger charges...
I cannot speak to the quality yet but have a look at JP Heaters.
I just got my Heater/Water heater combo. Its a 100% knock off of the Truma 6E. There are a number of companies making them but this JP company seems to be the only one that seems to stand behind their knock off and producing a...
I have mine working. Full 50 Amps as long as there is no solar attached. I have my panels on a breaker. If I am driving the panels get turned off.
A few other things I had to work through.
1. It overheats seemly pretty quickly then starts throttling the current. This is documented in the...
Hey Xhu..
I have back burnered the project for right now...
I do still plan on doing it sometime in the next few years. It just pending funding I can put together and hopefully some government incentives to make it worth while. I love the idea of being more self sufficient.
You cannot backfeed the grid if the grid is down. In the event of a grid down situation every grid tied inverter will stop putting power back into the grid. This is why you need to put in a critical load panel that is fed directly by the solark. If the grid goes out the solark continues to power...
I am brand new to playing with this stuff but thought I would share my experience. I plan on posting my own thread with some questions but here is what I did last week for a camping trip.
I had access to a 100ah renogy smart battery from work. I snagged it and fired up my 1000w pure sine wave...
It worked very well. All said with the smaller fridge I am confident it would easily run 24/7 off of single 100W panel. A larger apartment size uses about 30% more power. 1 panel might squeak by, but two should do it no problem.
Again rough math from a newbie.
There is a thread about the Poz video. I well aware of the limitation of split phase. Take the video discussion to that thread I suggest. I was asking for costing... Thanks though!
The MPPT function of the Renogy DC2DC is really just an addon feature. It is still cheaper then other 30A DC2DC chargers and in a pinch can do some solar for you as well.
As @Generis says all you need to do is add a MPPT (recommend a Victron here). They are not a lot of money and will buy you...
I just bought a renogy 50A DC2DC charger.. Sitting in the box waiting on my trailer to show up. As I have started designing the wiring and system I am kind wondering also about maybe going with AC... If I put a 2000W inverter in my truck I could run a 100A DC charger in the trailer off an...
The ones I was looking at are very similar. What can I expect if I order these? A scam, nothing will ship? or I will get degraded, low capacity bloated Cells? Beyond fire risk I don't mind playing with degraded low quality cells. These are for learning on anyways. When and if I build something...
Been working the last little while to get my Renogy 50A DC2DC charger working well and I think I finally got it tonight.
2 main issues I was facing.. Maybe obvious to most but alas.....
1 - Heat, the sucker runs HOT. With 200W of solar hooked up to it running in a warm trailer (77F ambient)I...
Not a fan of the app either but beyond some initial config I rarely use it. Maybe check temp and thats about it...
You can config the charge rate via the Monitor screen or a bluetooth adapter.
I have batteries and the DC2DC charger connected to the Renogy Com hub.
Then my bluetooth adapter...
I have a temp build in my 18' trailer right now. I pondered buying a DC fridge but opted to try the apartment size fridge I had in my garage (something like this - Fridge ). I ran it on a crappy 1000w pure sine wave inverter I had kicking around.. I was pulling about 50Ah per day.
So one 100Ah...
