  • Post in thread: Soft start for 3/4 hp water pump

Finally bit the bullet and drilled a new well so I could abandon my jet pump and incorporate a grundfos 10 SQE10-290 submersible pump with soft start. Went from a well with 2" casing to one with 4". Attached is my amps used while filling the 80 gal pressure tank from zero start to finish. No...
  • Post in thread: Need 240 Volt Inverter Recommendation For Well Pump

I love it! I may have to start grading rants, as long as I can compete. I spent my whole career selling, installing, and designing refractory systems in everything from kilns that fat ladies fire praying Jesus hands in, to state of the art chemical plant furnaces running 3300F. Power plants...
  • Post in thread: Soft Start Question

OzSolar I copy that but it's not that old of a pump and many of the better fits may require a bigger hole in the ground. I think I have a 2" hole. For now a soft start may be a more economical option than drilling a new well.

Ken tonight the low will be 75° with 88% humidity, SE winds @2. I'm sure the real feel will easily be 80°+. The house is 25x75 with bedrooms on each end. The ac's are in each bedroom. One room is small and has a new window unit that soft starts. It surges at 4.9 and runs at 4.2. The other...
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark Support

Call them, select 2, and leave a message and they'll call back. They'll do it when it's convenient to their schedule which means they'll have more time for you.
  • Post in thread: Need 240 Volt Inverter Recommendation For Well Pump

Well that rant was certainly helpful. So you're saying there's a chance?
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark 12K with small generator

I've been fiddling and have mine working. I have a manual start Generac 6500/8100. Be sure to set your frequencies to 55hz/65hz. See pics of my settings.

Looks like without the ac units I'm at 14 kwh / 24 hours.
  • Post in thread: How do I check total amp output from all connected panels?

A clamp on meter may solve your problem.
  • Post in thread: Solar Array Panel Grounding Question

I didn't get instructions. Just a bag of lugs. I thought to get grounding from encased poles I would have had to embed a grounding rod and/or rebar into the hole and into the ground during the pour? Which I didn't do. The contractor that drilled the holes set the pipe. Then he poured a couple of...
  • Post in thread: Need 240 Volt Inverter Recommendation For Well Pump

Thanks, K. I appreciate that. I've been looking at assembled systems. They don't look to be much higher than just the components, they're just heavy. Even so I can work around that. During the summer in Texas I estimate we use about 60kwh a day. Thats pretty much just adding (2) window unit...
  • Post in thread: Is It Possible My House Is Grounded To The Well?

I bought a house off the grid and am in the process of installing a Sol-Ark 12k with (12) Simpliphi 3.8M batteries, and (16) Mission 415 panels on top of pole mounts (8 each x 2). The house was built in '74 and has pretty much been my version of "The Money Pit". I'm getting close to being...
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark 12K with small generator

NEWS. I created a plant, called SA tech support. They downloaded a new version and did my settings for me. Turns out my 8k gen was dropping below 55hz, may need a new voltage regulator. So I hooked it to a Dewalt 8k and it's running like a dream. I manually start. Charges 1% every 7.5 mins. I...

  • Post in thread: Best Inverter for deep well pump

Michael what batteries and solar panels are you using?
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark 12K with small generator

SA told me that on the charge tab at 90% start basically has the generator turned off. The gen charges the batteries to 95% but won't kick on at a 90% setting. Note mine is at 40%. Also note that on the info grid none of my gen power appears to be going to batteries, I assume bc they're higher...

  • Post in thread: Need 240 Volt Inverter Recommendation For Well Pump

Ok. Let's ty this again. And as Denzel said in Philadelphia, explain it to me like I'm 2 years old. 1. Can anybody recommend a good stand alone 24 volt to 240 volt inverter for a well pump? 2. Can anybody make a whole house recommendation on a solar system? Design criteria is 9,000 watts in a...
  • Post in thread: About To Bite The Bullet Please Review And Share Your Thoughts

How so? Keep in mind that in winter time I don't use my window unit ac's. That's 1500 watts of the 2000 watts my house consumes, or 75% less power requirements. Obviously the days are shorter in winter, but if I'm correct, my daily usage in winter, when days are shorter, is only 25% of 50kWh =...
  • Post in thread: Need 240 Volt Inverter Recommendation For Well Pump

Hello all, new to forum. I have a 1250 sf cabin that is off the grid. I've been powering it with a Harbor Freight 7kw generator. We've had the place about 1.5 years. About a year ago we replaced the well pump and last week we fried the replacement. I just put in a new one. I bought a HF 7kw...
  • Post in thread: Grundfos 10 SQ07 Well Pump…Just Awesome

I have a jet pump on a 2" well x 80' deep. It goes into an 80 gal pressure tank that kicks on at 30psi and off to 50psi. The jet pump is killing me. Too many amps on startup, external soft start ineffective. The well guy tells me to go with a submersible pump I need to drill a 4" well. Is that...
  • Post in thread: Soft start for 3/4 hp water pump

I didn't have any luck with my soft starts. As far as Schnider goes, they told me their soft starts are only designed to cycle 4 times an hour. Once every 15+ minutes. Try taking a shower like that. I tried buying a hyper but after doing so the mfr told me it wasn't suitable for my application.
  • Post in thread: Need 240 Volt Inverter Recommendation For Well Pump

Wow. Thank you very much. The well pump was more in the $800 each. The pump kicks off at 23.95 amps (230 volt) as runs at 10.15. Questions: - What well pump are you using and what depth is your well? - Are you pumping into a pressure tank? Thanks, Bill
  • Post in thread: Measuring Whole House Power Consumption

I'm running my house on generator power and am shopping off grid systems. I've been using a clamp meter to check the draw on all of the fixtures / items in my house. Question. Is it possible to measure whole house draw by simply firing everything up in the house and clamping onto a hot wire of...

  • Post in thread: About To Bite The Bullet Please Review And Share Your Thoughts

After a year of procrastinating I'm about to bite the bullet and place an order. Fuel prices have made it an extremely short payout and a no brainer. I'd appreciate constructive comments concerning my product selection and design thoughts. REQUIREMENTS: 1. I live off the grid in the East Texas...
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark 12K with small generator

You're exactly right. I tried a new voltage regulator on the 6500, no help. The inverter lugged it enough that the frequency dropped enough that it never got started. And Sol-Ark kinda freaked out at the suggestion that I drop the frequency setting to 54 or 53hz. Sol-Ark recommends a generator...
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark 12K with small generator

Not that I can tell but I haven't played with it since Sol-Ark went into it and set my settings in the new version. Yesterday they'd set something then call me to tell me about it and they'd discover I had changed a setting. So for now I've been laying off of it. Here's a pick showing 3800w...

  • Post in thread: Solar Array Panel Grounding Question

I have a question about grounding my panels. I think I read somewhere that my grounding wire couldn't be layed out too closely to itself. Reference the attached sketch. Can I start close to the pole, run the ground wire along top rail of 2 panels, up to the the bottom rail of the 4 top panels...
