@Will Prowse Just FYI, I found a youtube video comment that let me down the following rabbit hole. It appears all the "Gyll" and "VGlory" and "Seplos" are just rebrands of what I think is the real manufacturer, meritsun.
My evidence for this is pages like this ...
So ok, $1080 is getting even more reasonable. Not sure if this is the lowest available (I'm not ready to buy just yet) but this is good.
I looked at the specs for these batteries. On paper you can discharge them at 2C. This means 2 * 138 = 276 amps!
Why would you do this? It means with the...
Thank you for this.
https://electricvehicleweb.com/byd-blade-shaped-battery-breakthrough-battery-safety/ per the official specs, the vehicle grade cells are supposed to store 202 Ah! This looks like the same part number as the dimensions are the same as these shady "120-138Ah" cells.
This...
What it does show is that these things are going to be super cheap soon enough. What I read is that BYD's price to EV manufacturers is $65/kWh. Packaged batteries for $100-$150 a kWh will be compellingly good and this is approaching the point that it will be cheaper for just about everyone to...
It's the same vendor I have a quote from above. So unless they are bait and switching the shipping should be the same.
Assuming it is then this is a $7.6 discount per battery cell or $121.6. then you can save money going with an overkill 16s 100amp BMS, about $153 instead of $216.
So $184 in...
Ok the first part: I'm telling you in some areas like where I live, those officials are nowhere to be found. I look to the house to my left. "huh that guy seems to have slapped on a crappy extra building". I look right " wonder if he got a permit for that, don't see how".
So when do they get...
What I have noticed is that a residential solar install has all these unnecessary people with their hands out. The solar install company, the local county code, the power company, and the local guild of electricians at a minimum. And yet signature solar will sell us bifacial panels for dirt...
Maybe not your future but your requirements are similar to saying "until the voice quality and reliability of cell phones is the same as land lines I won't get one". If you actually believed that you would still be waiting as cell phones may never be that good. You are ignoring all the...
Ok just to note some reasonable baseline numbers : This Alibaba seller wants $468 including shipping for 4 * 280 Ah * 3.2 volts. This works out to 3.584 kWh. And you can then slap on a 100 amp DALY BMS for $56 from Amazon.
So (468+50)/3.584 = $144 a kWh. Presumably you need a few more bits...
Ok so I have an idea. 4 blades next to each other and flat on a cement board to fit on a shelf, similar to the ones home Depot sells. Zip tie them to the board with metal zip ties. Then the next bank of 4 on its own cement board goes on top and so on. So 4 of these cement board + battery...
To add a new question to the thread : does anyone know approximately how fast LFP experiences calendar aging or have data on it? 4000-7000 80 percent cycles is obviously a 15-25 year lifespan on solar loads. But that's assuming no calendar aging, how much will that cut it down.
So I was playing with pvwatts and I noticed that if you want max power in the summer months you face the panels straight up (like Will does), if you want more power on winter you angle them up.
So the obvious thing to do if you have an off grid cabin or something in northern climates is have an...
It is a well established fact that burning fossil fuels causes pollution both local and worldwide.
Failing to tax a negative externality is a subsidy. This is financially true not political.
You can argue that the dollar amount of it is small and if you had evidence to support your claim it...
For pickup trucks this makes sense. They need the range extender for towing and moving heavy loads long distances. The obvious location to put the engine is behind the cab, so that the genset is at the center is mass of the vehicle.
Ideally there would be a high voltage plug in the truck bed...
It's not your mind. I can bring up the news article or you can Google but I read it's 73 cents a watt in advertising. That explains several thousand of the money. Small companies also have high overhead vs their cash flow so that can be a few k.
The fix for this are basically more "plug and...
Note that you very likely do not need cell compression with these. They won't have them mounted in an EV how could they? The blades are attached on edge, look at the videos. Nothing compresses them.
I think you could build a lazy blade battery by just laying them flat on a cement board...
Thank you fellows. The closest I have found is people have written python servers you run on a pi to talk to growatts inverters. If I don't have to write the server this is the cleanest way to do it. The inverter can tell you the battery voltage, estimated SOC, if the solar is out - all the...
Turns out to be incredibly easy in practice. The EPA believes 15% of all the diesel pickups have been successfully tampered with.
https://int.nyt.com/data/documenttools/epa-on-tampered-diesel-pickups-11-20/6d70536b06182ad2/full.pdf
How are they doing it? Most likely by simply analyzing the...
Thank you very much for this post.
This tells me a lot. So this idea of a "cabin in the north woods" you need the optimal winter solstice angle, most people do year round angle which kinda makes sense though for off grid you burn fuel when you don't get enough solar. So you need to angle it...
Why not just flip the battery breakers to off when depart the cabin? As others mention the issue is charging and discharging at low temps. Just make sure they are at least 50 percent state of charge before you leave since they self discharge a little bit and flip the breakers off on however...
You just moved goalpost. Your requirement is 80 percent of 400 miles in 20 minutes. That means you need 320 miles in 20 minutes or 16 miles per minute. Ioniq 5 is 11.6 miles per minute so we are 72.9 percent of the way there.
The very next generation of EVs with very large batteries...
Thank you for the response. I don't suppose you have seen resources on the next subject: optimal battery vs array sizing. Since obviously theres a study saying you need 4 kilowatt hours of battery for every kilowatt of panels, but batteries are much more expensive than adding more panels...
That is a cool idea though it would be rather complex to implement. I was thinking simpler ideas. One is just have a 48v DC heating element in a hot water heater that only gets power if the battery bank is full. This already is pretty common. A mixing valve would be installed after the heater...
Thank you. My only concern was that each inverter may believe the bank's state of charge is different than reality because each doesn't know of the charging/discharging done by the other.
Probably this is one of the reasons for the RS485 communication with the batteries that's more or less...
This would work, do these AIO systems generally have external shunt support? For the bus bar/racks that Signature Solar cells yeah you could hook all your battery supply cables to the lower part of the bus bar, and the inverter draw cables to the upper part.
I will dig up the study it was in the context of a nationwide reliable grid powered by renewable.
My comment here : for off grid when your batteries go below threshold you start a generator. Hopefully automatically. Fuel type depending but probably propane.
For on grid but somewhere like...
