  • Post in thread: DIY LiFePO4 Cost Analysis - February 2022 Edition

From the perspective of someone who bought server rack batteries, I'm happy they've become competitive. I had a small system with a couple of AGM batteries. Wanted very much to expand to a larger system with LiFePO4 batteries in the mix. I watched battleborn for a long time. Wanting somewhere...

I'm still wondering who said you didn't need an ATS when you have an on-board generator? I'm guessing you also have an inside start button for that generator. Without an ATS, you'd have to some how manually transfer power transmission to or from the generator and the other ac power sources...
  • Post in thread: Fuses between solar panels? Panel>fuse>panel?

You'll be fine with 3S2P. You'll need a total of 3 pairs MC4 branch connectors. 2 pair to join each of the 2P strings and another pair to join that result into a single pair of +/- wire that will feed into your SCC. Given what equipment you already have, this is the best optimized solution to...
  • Post in thread: Custom made solar panel covers FOR SALE!

If the camo covers are really good, no one would even see the panels. "What solar panels, Mr. Inspector?"
  • Post in thread: Best system for RV

Says "all models can be paralleled" in the data sheet. Same goes for the IP22. But it will cost close to $500 to do so. $400 for the IP22
  • Post in thread: Best system for RV

I also live full time stationary in a 42' 5th wheel. Just beginning to assemble all the components I've collected through the winter months. I have extra roof space with a 22' cargo trailer/rolling shop that allows for a total of 6KW of PV. Most of a large front pass through compartment has...

It's a very nice setup, Barry. Probably the largest 12V system I've seen. I think it could draw around 4500W before the main fuse would blow. And I'm guessing he has your generator kick on before that much power is used. Here's why @smoothJoey is correct on main battery cable size: (2)...

I looked over Barry's photos again and still can't tell if he has a cat6 data link cable between the multis. Pretty thorough comment on dual multiplus RV setups from VE community:

That's kind of the ironic part, Barry... You came here because of the ATS. Which was never really a problem. A bunch of other stuff was seriously wrong.

He must have heard us.
  • Post in thread: Please Needing Help Quick

Might need a NG bonding plug on your generator. Common problem on solar RVs with external generators. The generator is now the AC source and where the bond should occur. What generator is being used?
  • Post in thread: Victron. Want to hire an expert. Around SE.

My thought is that when a data link is involved it allows one inverter to be master and the other a slave. I would suspect (don't know for sure) that the master would apply the internal N-G bond relay depending if shore power is connected or not. And prohibit the slave from bonding either way.

Just grounding to that terminal won't do much good. Don't need that ground just using an extension cord. But neutral to ground at the generator chassis needs bonded. I use a plug like this:
  • Post in thread: Victron. Want to hire an expert. Around SE.

I'm just thinking out loud. I don't know any of this for sure. But the neutrals of both multis are likely joined at the junction box. The multis are extremely fast. They can detect power outage and be online so fast digital clocks don't even flicker. I don't know what Victron is able to do...
  • Post in thread: Victron. Want to hire an expert. Around SE.

Yes. If he would ever use the full 6000W of the inverters. I wonder what size the main fuse is? I'm guessing 400A to protect the main battery cable.

Yet another jiggery pokery reference. Keep that up and I'll have no choice but to suspect some UK lineage.
  • Post in thread: Victron. Want to hire an expert. Around SE.

I think he may have set the generator autostart to kick on before the inverters would draw more current than the main cable can handle.
  • Post in thread: Isolator switches for a 48V lithium battery

It was mentioned awhile back. Seems like the only real solution. I had to redesign. But it's only 4" wide and both the solar arrays and battery can be shut down from the same place. 250A/125VDC 50,000 AIC @125v https://www.solar-electric.com/mndc250.html
  • Post in thread: 12V vs. 24V vs. 48V system in a camper

My wife and I have been full time in the RV the last 4 years. It's more a residence than occasional use. The 12V system has many occasional uses. Leveling jacks, slides, break-away, brakes, power awnings, roof fans and rarely the water pump. Lights are all 12V LED and along with the furnace...
  • Post in thread: Scalable System

I think your end goal is excessive. I use about the same kWh/day and hoping to be off grid with considerably less pv. I'd say 7500W to 10kW would likely get you to that 600kWh/mo. The ideal system is elusive. Making enough for winter often means wasted resources in the summer. Make just...

@Tecnodave Maybe you have seen them. And I'm not that familiar with Super C motorhomes either. Out of curiosity, I looked online for specs. Pasted from their page: Floorplan Specifications Description Features Factory Brochure Electrical Battery Disconnect 2,000 Watt Inverter 50 Amp, 12...

    Oops. Yep. 1 pair only.

Multiplus doesn't need to have a VE Bus cable to make it standalone/parallel. There are dip switches inside the cover that can program those options.

Nobody can withstand a jiggery-pokery reference.
  • Post in thread: Victron. Want to hire an expert. Around SE.

I thought so too. But a quick scan through Multiplus manual claims it doesn't need to. Although they acknowledge it's much easier with a cable.
  • Post in thread: Xantrex has a new inverter/charger and its pretty sweet.

I've had my 5th wheel 5 years now. Solar capability has always been in the back of my mind. At first, a 12V system seemed like the way to go. Then I was seeing so many 5vers with 24V as panels and the real estate to hold them increased. There's a bunch of 40+ ft 5th wheels out there these...
