No, nothing will drain the battery when the van is not in use. So no need for unplugging then, if I understand you correct? The bms should protect the battery from overcharging etc
Aah, I see.
I plan to use the van (and the electricity) on weekends for small trips and occasionally for a week on the summers.
If I go for the PWM I got already, what about setting it with the Gel option and then, on the weekdays (when the van is not in use), just "unplug" the solar somehow...
Hi guys,
Thanks a lot for a amazing forum, Im learning a lot. Im very new to this and consider my skills being very basic.
I have a 4s 12v 100Ah LiFepo4 battery and just orded a Overkill solar BMS.
I have a solar panel that came with a PWM that only got settings for sealed/gel/wet (see chart...
Just a very simple one. Using only this will cause problem by letting the LFP battery drain amps to fast and overheat the alternator, by the things I have read and understood. So. Putting a converter into the game as I write above.. What do you think?
New thought! Could I just buy an Victron converter instead, like this one, "Victron Orion-Tr DC-DC converter" and then put the VSR between the alternator and the converter and then get the same function as a DC-DC charger? No?
I already bought an VSR before I even knew I had to protect my alternator from my LFP, so I might as well use it... If the DC-DC charger that hasn't got the sense also is cheaper I might go for that! Any tips on model/brand for 12v system? I have an old car, so a DC-DC that doesnt pull too many...
..and do you have to have a VSR as a middleman between the alternator (indirect the starter battery) and the DC-DC to protect the starter battery from draining? Or am I getting something wrong?
So, alternator - starter battery - VSR - DCDC - LFP ?
Sorry for being noob, still trying to figure...
Thanks a lot for your answer.
Hmm, maybe JBD BMS haven't sold out of their stock yet.. Where can I find these BMS's? Guarantueed that the low-temp cut off is working in this one? REC BMS seems to be at least double the price of Overkill solar, so either wait or paying the big bill! Thats a...
Overkill solar 4s 120 amp BMS are SOLD OUT! Cant get reach of them for maybe months... Contacted them, they answered:
"We are STILL waiting for new inventory, they seem to be stuck in Hong Kong. The whole shipment that is coming in is already sold out and the factory got a lead time of 30...
