Ok. So it will work as a "dumb" battery, it just wont' have any communication with the skybox? at this point I'd be fine with that.
  • Post in thread: quick shading question

I can plot the output with optics on the skybox. But my production is not going to be maxed out because I am not selling and don’t have my batteries yet. I just happened to catch it this morning when we were using 1.5kw and only producing 1kw. We are normally idling around 500 watts so I am...

Yes qishou is who I would order from if I ordered myself. Her name is Amy also. She seemed like the most honest one to me. But there is also a guy who offered to broker them for me and he uses the same person for all his stuff so he trusts them. Sells a lot on eBay and locally. I’ll likely go...
  • Post in thread: Using two solar inverters on a grid tie setup

Ok. That's what I was thinking. I just want to be sure I wasn't creating some sort of artificial "grid" by having two grid tie inverters. After reading some replies and thinking more about it, I think I understand how it would work. In my setup, the 2nd inverter will be downstream of the...
  • Post in thread: Daly 16s bms question

Well I suspect the bms is definitely bad. On top of the 49.1v reading at L-, when I turned on the battery breaker on my inverter the voltage (between b+ and L-) goes to zero. Or around -1.5v. But When i check the voltage between the pos and Neg post of the actual battery bank and it’s still...
  • Post in thread: Skybox with backup questions, bms and battery & settings questions, + pic of my new bank!

Ok, so I found another instruction sheet online. It is written different that the little scrap of paper they sent with my BMS. It is more clear that the first red thin wire goes onto the B1+ terminal. My instructions were not written that way if I am remembering correctly. It said to connect...
  • Post in thread: Adding PoCo to insurance as additional insured.

My power company requires me to add them to my liability policy as an additional insured. I know this is common for net metering agreements. But my State Farm agent hasn’t ever done this and is having trouble figuring this one out. He says his underwriter contact has told him they can’t add my...
  • Post in thread: Daly 16s bms question

Good plan! (On the beverage) On waking it up, I don’t know how to force skybox to charge and I don’t know why the bms would go to zero upon being connected to the inverter. Something is happening in there to make the bms disconnect or whatever it’s doing. After flipping the inverter break...
  • Post in thread: First post. building a hybrid system.

hopefully these pre engineered unirac systems are strong enough. I followed the install requirements and then some. I used about twice as much concrete and rebar as they spec. Definitely will be adding at least 2 more panels. And with 1 more bay I could add another 8 for about $200 in extra...
  • Post in thread: making a battery for my Skybox, supplier and misc questions.

So does the skybox only charge up to 5kw then? I just assumed since it is a hybrid and is capable of combining grid/solar/battery it might charge more, with the 175 amp dc breaker. Can it also only discharge up to 5kw? if so there isn't much need for the large BMS. although I'm assuming that...
  • Post in thread: Skybox with backup questions, bms and battery & settings questions, + pic of my new bank!

Yeah, I didn't connect my plug to the BMS yet. I've only so far wired the individual sensor wires to the terminals. I think the instructions did say to not connect the plug while connecting sensor wires. But that's a good point to make sure I keep it unplugged while putting the B- on because...
  • Post in thread: 550W of panel for $120!

I've been looking on their site. I want to add some AC coupled panels to my shop roof to feed into my skybox inverter. What about their T series 290W? They have a similar description but say for off grid use, I guess because the labels are missing. But that won't matter to me.
  • Post in thread: Summary of my battery options from China, lifepo4 3.2v 280ah cells.

Yeah, I think I believe the 50-60 day quotes more than the 30-45. I might go with one of those suppliers just because of their honesty.. but most of them say they can ship them within 2 days. so I don't know if that means they get on the boat in 2 days, or their forwarder picks them up in two...
  • Post in thread: Couple of wire questions.

Well From what I’ve read people are commonly using thhn or thwn in conduit for pv wire. Maybe the pv wire is used more for direct bury, I’m not sure. Darn, I forgot already have about 2000’ of 12 awg in the shop which I could double up and would Be more than enough capacity . But I know you...
  • Post in thread: First post. building a hybrid system.

Well I installed the battery pack. BMS seemed to be bad (other post about that), so I just set the inverter to net metering with backup and hooked the battery directly up to the inverter w/o a BMS for now, until I get a replacement. I did take some advice and turn down the absorb voltage on...
  • Post in thread: Summary of my battery options from China, lifepo4 3.2v 280ah cells.

yes, I am hoping for that too. I am on his list but he is very busy. Hoping to find a place to buy at least 16 on alibaba. I would take up to 48 eventually. I know a lot of people on here have done it through China on their own, I did used to buy and resell a lot from China so I am fairly...
  • Post in thread: Daly 16s bms question

I started another post in the general forum, but turned into a BMS specific question.. I have my Daly 16s smart 80A 48v all connected and have manually checked voltages on every sensor via the back of the plug, seems all good, starting at 3.32 going up 3.32 at a time up to 53.12. I followed...
  • Post in thread: making a battery for my Skybox, supplier and misc questions.

Not sure I know what you mean skybox won’t integrate with a bms. So skybox won’t support using a diy battery setup the way I want to do it? Maybe I’m missing something.
  • Post in thread: Daly 16s bms question

well I might have found an answer. There is a really lame video showing some instructions and it seems you have to either begin with charging the battery, or have some separate activation device that plugs into the "light" port on the daly. I just wasn't sure about the 49.1 vs 53v...
  • Post in thread: Skybox questions

Looks like it’s been a while since you posted. it depends on how you connect your loads. None of the loads in my critical panel are very large. But in my main panel I have my larger loads, ac, electric water heater and dryer. When the main panel loads come on the skybox kicks in its 5kw and...
  • Post in thread: Skybox with backup questions, bms and battery & settings questions, + pic of my new bank!

. I just realized there is a separate place for bms discussion. I may start one there since this is more of a bms question at this point. I did get mine connected. The only thing that concerns me is the voltage out of the p- is only showing 49.1 and the voltage of the pack is 53.something. Is...
  • Post in thread: quick shading question

Well I managed to clear out most of that row of trees. I left one large tree for now. I’ll try to see what it’s doing to energy production as I get done more history But I did notice about twice the production the next day during the 8 am hour. Well twice the peak power anyway since I don’t...
  • Post in thread: Couple of wire questions.

My supplier only sent 2 rolls of wire instead of 4 that I need for my two 2600 watt arrays. Anyway, I have trenched and am ready to lay conduit and pv wire. I am laying watertight pvc conduit. Would it matter if I just picked up some 10 awg thhn from Lowe’s or somewhere local to lay along with...
  • Post in thread: Summary of my battery options from China, lifepo4 3.2v 280ah cells.

Yeah, that's why I am seeking feedback here. Many have good feedback scores on alibaba, for what that's worth. and they take credit cards.
  • Post in thread: Summary of my battery options from China, lifepo4 3.2v 280ah cells.

Alithor is another one that some on here have ordered from, and Mushang. although they didn't get super good reviews..
  • Post in thread: Solar Equipment Supply Bottleneck

Not really. Except batteries. my panels all shipped quick. Inverter shipped quick too. Racking took a while to sort out but that was supplier issues not manufacturing.
  • Post in thread: Couple of wire questions.

Thanks. My 2000’ reel is thhn 12 awg. But I bought southwire 10awg today. Both are 600v moisture resistant thhn , 12 and19 strand and 20 and 30 amp respectively. My pv wire is 1000v 19 strand. Only diff is it’s direct bury rated. My arrays will be about 330v nominal.
