    Mini-split Installation Concerns

False alarm, sort of. We did end up going through the vacuum and leak testing procedure, after all.

    Mini-split Installation Concerns

We hired a guy to do a mini-split install. He worked quickly and confidently, and seemed to have a lot of experience, but he did not do a couple of things that I saw in all the instructional YouTube videos we watched. For one thing, he did not use a vacuum pump and gauge, like we saw in all the...

Today's Stupid Question: Is it Safe to Drink the Water That My A/C Unit Emits from De-humidifying?

Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, Mr. Prickly? :) For what it's worth, we have dozens of cases of bottled water in storage; however, in a somewhat long-term scenario, that can run out, the well can run dry, etc. We live in a very humid area, and every day our A/C...

Today's Stupid Question: Is it Safe to Drink the Water That My A/C Unit Emits from De-humidifying?

We now have about 20-25 gallons of water reclaimed from our A/C unit's dehumidifier. I am motivated to send some of it off to a lab and settle the question for myself. I don't know if I'm motivated enough to actually do it. :-)

    Mini-Split Clearance

The guides I checked specifically indicated a minimum. I even emailed one of the vendors (Aurus) and they suggested that I not buy their unit if I don't have at least 8' clearance below the head. The closest I have heard anyone come to an explanation is that it has something to do with...

    Mini-Split Clearance

I've been doing a lot of research, and recently purchased a 12K btu mini-split. I'm puzzled by the indoor clearance requirements that were listed on all the brands I checked. They all want 6-8 inches on top of the indoor unit, and 6-14 inches on each side, which makes sense to me. However, they...

Today's Stupid Question: Is it Safe to Drink the Water That My A/C Unit Emits from De-humidifying?

We are using a DIY rainwater filter consisting of three thick layers or gravel -> sand -> activated charcoal, separated by mosquito netting. That should work?
