  • Post in thread: How to verify BMS (Daly) is working?

I started with a Daly BMS 16S 200A, with separate charge port and balancing; 125$. It worked for 4 months and damaged after disconnecting the 16 wire connector. Usually I do not trust electronic designs molded in resin without the need of absolute waterproof. May be they do to prevent fire...
  • Post in thread: Dual axis tracking controller?

If you have to buy a commercial system, I agree it’s not worth the expense. I made 2 portable stations with 12*100W panels from all kind of recup parts (except the panels). (cost around 200$ + 900$ panels) I track the sun / brightness centrally on the top of my roof and adjust the panel...
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

I agree with the shipping method. BLS found a clever way to pass customs; they ship very fast and well packed. The communication before buying was good as well. I gave them five stars like everyone else since there is a very short time for disputes for big purchases. Aliexpress comments are...
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

BLS battery is the worst of all Chinese sellers I have dealt with. They seem to be reliable and correct at first sight but the real face shows up when you have issues that may cost money to them. Forget the warranty, financial compensations, the promises and the quality. They are first class...
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

Sorry, I really do not believe you. I post a screencopy from a 2 months old chat with BLS and a couple of hours later you can post the full chat as an ordinary customer! What kind of company sends private customer communication to other customers just to prove they are right?? You are Mr...
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

You are free to buy where and what you want but you should know that BLS and most other Aliexpress high capacity Lifepo4 sellers are actually recyclers. They buy end of life battery packs that may have 2000 or more cycles already. They disassemble; clean up the cells and apply new covers and...
  • Post in thread: How to verify BMS (Daly) is working?

I understand how it feels. There is a simple way to test the Daly if you have an adjustable voltage source ( can be a 6V battery with a linear voltage regulator) and an accurate multimeter (at least one where the voltage is correct or verified.) Connect the BMS ground (B-) with the ground -...
  • Post in thread: Is Solar really worth it?

3 years ago, without any experience in solar, I started to make my own solarpanels. Bought separate cells and 4mm cheap glass plates. I got max 800W from 6 panels. The standard glass reduces 20%. After 3 years they still deliver the same power and they are shadowed every day. If cells or...
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

Thank you for providing your label/ serial nr. In your label there is no reference to ETC so may be they are manufactured by someone else. Your poles are different from mine too. In that case I can't tell you anything useful about your cells. My cells all have the name ETC and the type...
  • Post in thread: Mobile Panels

@svetz , Ok here are some photo's. Must say that everything is constantly changing as I am very experimental minded. So don't look to much to some loose cables.. It's pure DIY... and I love to recuperate old materials and transform them for other purposes. Here it is not allowed to make...
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

cyanogenic, Do these cells have 6mm hex bolts with nuts or 4mm bolts with washer? Type ETC NAH3L0 ? If 6mm then you received old stock. ETC does not produce this anymore. I ve got 16 of these in my first order, with 1 self discharging cell immediately , 4 expanded cells replaced after 1...
  • Post in thread: How to verify BMS (Daly) is working?

We are talking about battery banks. In my case 16S 200Ah 48V. How should a PV charger stops when a cell is at 3.6V? It just deliver 58V output. There is no link to the cell voltages. Only the BMS is measuring cell voltages and decides to switch off the complete load/charge when a cell reach...
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

I certainly believe you did your tests well and your cells may have the right capacity. You and me tested their batteries but most people don't have accurate tools, install them and never know the real capacity , gave 5 stars and write positive comments as everything looks fine in the first...
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

@Keith_PDX It's hard to say, your 150Ah models have a complete other pole layout than my 200Ah and may have another chemistry inside. The bolts and nuts from yours are the same like my "bad/old" batteries but I prefer this stronger bolts because M4 screws are really not strong enough. When...
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

I know this BLS topic gets old but I just want to add this mail I got today from ETC manufacturer as a last word: Hi, first of all, we are very regret to hear such news. We can confirm that it is not a qualified product of our ETC. Secondly, please don't believe that the price is too...
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

The 36 BLS cells (200Ah Brand ETC) I bought 14 months ago are used as 2 * 52V banks in parallel (32 cells). I expected to get about 20KW storage from new cells but 15KW was really the max in the beginning due to large cell capacity differences. Now after 14 months I hardly have 10KW available...
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

I think you ARE BLS ! Who else can have the full version? I thought already from your first reply as new member and your writing style. So you did not buy 175 and 150Ah cells that performs well. Always lying about everything.
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

You don’t know why I want to warn other people about BLS? Losing 4900€ getting 36 end of life cells instead of new, is that a good reason for you? Your cells perform well. What does that mean? Did you do any tests other than connecting your load and getting some power? Any measurement to...
  • Post in thread: Mobile Panels

I think it's for safety. There might happen serious accidents during storms etc. In fixed structures, it usually has to be much higher (shadowing), so it must be made much stronger. I just move if I have shadow. In case of announced big storms I can lift off the panels and the...
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

The balancer leds turns on when cell voltage differences are >0.2V. This should not happen between 3V and 3.5V cell voltages on equal and balanced cells. The balancing current of such balancer is usually lower than 1A. This may be enough for new and equal cells with small capacity...
  • Post in thread: How to verify BMS (Daly) is working?

Do not buy BMS with balancing. It does not work or the balancing current is too low and has no effect. And mostly it is resistive balancing wasting energy. Good matching cells do not need constant balancing but they may need when aging. You can always buy a separate energy transfer balancer...
  • Post in thread: DALY BMS 200A

I have a 16S 48V Daly 200A with 30A separate port. But it seems to accept up to 40A without issues. However, the mosfets can get damaged any time, may be I have just good luck. When my Daly turns off the output my charge port is not usable too. I expected I could further charge but I can't...
  • Post in thread: Dual axis tracking controller?

@azgrogg You are right. Angle adjustments depends on where you live and which season. In my area I don't have to adjust up/down from October to March. Just rotate. But in summertime I must tilt from 40-10° every day to get max power. Of course you can do less. May be you lose 10% power.
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

@Keith_PDX I purchased the first (bad) 16 cell set in july 2019. The next 20 cells in august 2019. But I did not get any listing of manufacturing dates and there is no date information at the labels. So they can tell whatever they like. Based on the picture of the top label, the manufacturer...
  • Post in thread: How to verify BMS (Daly) is working?

Anyone interested to see the hidden electronics of a molded Daly BMS 200A 16S with separate port and balancing? I just dissected it to the bottom even they glued it very well together.
  • Post in thread: BLS 4x 3.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 - voltage difference between cells

Ok, Thank you. I made this tester to analyze a lot of problems with such 200A BLS cells (36!) Now I am testing every cell to see the real capacity but it is certainly not 200AH/635Wh. I have enough evidence already that BLS battery is selling degraded /crap cells as new, cheating...
  • Post in thread: How to verify BMS (Daly) is working?

I do not agree with this too. There are many unreliable Ali sellers who try to escape when they have to refund but Aliexpress does a real good job. As you can see I have quite a lot of orders there. And many disputes over the years. But I only dispute with good reasons and with decent...
  • Post in thread: Dual axis tracking controller?

@Thor , There are many ways to do it. There are ready made sensors for tracking but I made an array of simple LDR’s. I placed them in small compartments like honey rate structure , in 360° in 2 rows. You need only 180° and minimal 4 sensors to do the job but I use the same sensors as...
  • Post in thread: DALY BMS 200A

I was thinking about active balancers as well, not the ones with capacitors but those with coils and energy transfer. The Daly just use resistors to put a load on the highest cells which is wasted energy every day. But member "electric" here in this forum says that such balancing is not...
  • Post in thread: DALY BMS 200A

@gnubie I use 4 cheap chinese "Makeskyblue" MPPT chargers (55$) 12V -48V automatically; 120V input 30A output. There are several minor issues with these controllers but the MPPT works perfect. I prefer cheaper separate controllers over 1 expensive controller. I have some redundancy and...
