Yes. I have the Growatt MIN 6000-TL-X set up as a grid tie with 16 panels and RSD from Tigo. The wording on the above is a bit odd though. There are three wires out, labeled L1, N, and Gnd. L1 and N go across the 240V. Gnd goes to ground. Works perfect for Grid Tie.

I am underpowered. I get maybe 80% of my theoretical output, probably due to my angle to the sun. (I don't have my panels mounted optimally because of the way my house faces.) I would like to add more panels to my system so that the actual output from the panels gets clipped at maximum radiance...
  • Post in thread: Conduit termination when plugs are involved

You were right on all counts. Especially the silicon. Turned out I got an electrician to fix things properly. The conduit was terminated to a box that also held my RSD device transmitter. From there DC goes to the MC4 connectors. The AC plug with SOOW goes to the box for the RMA device installed...

I am doing a DIY grid tie in Southern California. I am using 16 panels in 2 strings to a string inverter going into an AC disconnect box before connection to the grid. I am using a Growatt MIN-6000-TL-X inverter. The issue is this: This model inverter has simplified installation using external...
  • Post in thread: Can SMA SUNNY BOY SB10000TLUS-10 208V SINGLE OR 3 PHASE STRING INVERTER SOLAR be used in US residential 120V/240V system?

OK, it looks like this would be easy, if I was buying the latest model. The new ones are not just 2 wire European. The new spec indicates "Now with 240V" I don't think I am looking at the newer version. Thanks @Pyrofix. I'm sure I don't want to get the type that has 2 wire European output. In...
  • Post in thread: Do I need Single or 3-Phase Grid Tie Inverter To Run 240V

Ok, so perhaps I have misunderstood you, but I was not contradicting you, I was addressing eric calco from what seems to be a very old thread. He was asking if you could just connect two 120V circuits together, and of course, you can't, as your story from 2019 about the generators pointed out...
  • Post in thread: MIN 6000TL-X in Standby

The manual states it requires a starting voltage of 100v, it does not mention starting watts. Later in the manual it says it will start when input reaches 70 v, but it needs current too, so it won't put anything out if irradiance current is too low. on a very cloudy/rainy day I get over 100 v at...
  • Post in thread: MIN 6000TL-X in Standby

Yes. I have 16 panels (with RSD units), going to my Growatt MIN 6000TL-X. (Underpowered. I don't produce 6kW. I may add more panels later if I need them.) If hooked up correctly, when you turn on the Inverter the panel should come on and display No AC and go into standby if you are not connected...
  • Post in thread: DIY battery system for SMA Sunny Boy

A string inverter can work with batteries. You need a charge controller in front of it, and it won't even know it.
  • Post in thread: DIY battery system for SMA Sunny Boy

I have heard of putting a generic charge controller in front of the sunny boy to work with batteries..
  • Post in thread: Conduit termination when plugs are involved

Hi! Well, I guess daunting more than difficult. If you can DIY in the first place, then you can get through it. But I made a big mistake in the inverter I chose. (Edit: not such a big mistake after all.) Although technically on the list of accepted inverters, the plugs on the bottom make it...
  • Post in thread: Conduit termination when plugs are involved

Oh, I see! When you say snug you really mean snug! Well, the switch is down there, and the wifi dongle too. Might be tricky, but it would solve the problem if I can make it water tight. The extra depth is so I can cross over inside too, correct? Thanks!
  • Post in thread: Conduit termination when plugs are involved

Thank you! The AC plug is built into the Growatt, so I am assuming it is already UL approved. Is ATS Automatic Transfer Switch? I don't have one. Only an AC disconnect provided by SDGE. So that part of the question is, can I run the SOOW from the AC disconnect box? That does look like what is...
  • Post in thread: Conduit termination when plugs are involved

Thank you! So, put an electrical box on the end of the conduit to the AC disconnect, and run SOOW from there to the AC plug on the inverter? And for the DC, put an electrical box on the end of the conduit, and run THHN or THWN from there to the MC4 connector on the inverter?
  • Post in thread: Conduit termination when plugs are involved

    Oh dear.
  • Post in thread: Conduit termination when plugs are involved

ok, so the DC wires coming off the roof are THWN 10 AWG. I will run the wires through conduit into the 6x6x6 junction box and out again as individual wires to connect to the inverter with the MC4 connectors. I will run AC from the plug into the junction box using SOOW, and from there switch them...
  • Post in thread: Can SMA SUNNY BOY SB10000TLUS-10 208V SINGLE OR 3 PHASE STRING INVERTER SOLAR be used in US residential 120V/240V system?

Thanks, you are right, I'm sure. In this case, the model I want to buy does not have the new designation of being able to handle 240V, and only handles 208V "dual" phase. I think I will just go with something else and save the headaches. :) Thanks for mentioning the autotransformer.
  • Post in thread: Can SMA SUNNY BOY SB10000TLUS-10 208V SINGLE OR 3 PHASE STRING INVERTER SOLAR be used in US residential 120V/240V system?

You are right. It only has L1, L2 (the high delta or wild leg) and Neutral out. Rats. New models can be configured as 240V, but apparently not the model I was going to buy.
  • Post in thread: Do I need Single or 3-Phase Grid Tie Inverter To Run 240V

No. You were correct in your original assumption. It works the other way around. When 220 is supplied with 2 phase you can split it to be two 110V independent lines that are out of phase with each other. They would be on separate circuits. Combining two 110V lines will only make 220V when they...
  • Post in thread: Can SMA SUNNY BOY SB10000TLUS-10 208V SINGLE OR 3 PHASE STRING INVERTER SOLAR be used in US residential 120V/240V system?

Thanks for mentioning the autotransformer. (Edit: My misconception. IF this was the model with 240V there would be no problem. It isn't. As Pyrofx says below, it is 2 wire 208V. I can't use it.) I live in California, if that makes a difference for regulations. (edit: Tying to 240V is typical...
  • Post in thread: Can SMA SUNNY BOY SB10000TLUS-10 208V SINGLE OR 3 PHASE STRING INVERTER SOLAR be used in US residential 120V/240V system?

Can SMA SUNNY BOY SB10000TLUS-10 208V SINGLE OR 3 PHASE STRING INVERTER SOLAR be used in US residential 120V/240V grid-tied system? The SB10000TLUS-10 specs indicate it can be configured for 240V single phase output. (edit: I got more info, thank you very much. NEW ones indicate this. I was...
  • Post in thread: SMA Sunny Boy 5.0-US-41 on Single Phase 220v

Talk to another electrician. You probably do NOT want a step down transformer. The person you spoke to may have been confused. Show another electrician the installation instructions as well as the specs. You did not include the options, but there should be one that fits. The Sunny Boy 5.0 may be...
  • Post in thread: Do I need Single or 3-Phase Grid Tie Inverter To Run 240V

Anyway, the original question was whether they needed a 3 phase inverter or a single phase inverter to run 240V. The correct answer is, because they are going grid tied, they simply need to tie to the grid with whatever is coming into their home. Commercial buildings sometimes have 3 phase...
  • Post in thread: Conduit termination when plugs are involved

Okay. This is a Growatt MIN 6000TL-X inverter. It is a sealed box with connectors on the bottom. (1) DC from roof terminates to an electrical box. I wanted rain tight type LL conduit body, but my electrician said I didn't need it in the alcove because it is covered, so he used a set screw type...
