Hi, all you solar geeks... I'm back...
I believe I now have my duct fans and duct arrangements correct enough to give me a sufficient venturi (eductor) effect to draw the exhaust gases from my wood stove (especially when opening the stove to feed it wood). The arrangements are two-fold (two...
Hi, Circus... I have not seen such a kerosene heater as you have supplied a picture of (do you have a link?). I do have a Dyna-Glo 23,000BTU... It's a big white cylinder looking thing and it holds 1.9 gallons of K-1 Klean Heat kerosene (and I have some of it stored!). Instructions state it...
RedNeckTek. Your idea is right on! Seeing as how testing this idea can not involve me lighting up a wood stove (here in the condo) what I did was to split the experiment in two parts. I tested the smoke draw issues (inside my condo next to my laptop) from inlet small pipe #2 to the outflow...
Right on... Rednecktek!! As my ICON indicates... I'm a geek with my fingers in my ears waiting for (now, not the explosion but rather) the implosion of the country ha ha ha
CO? Of course I do.... Then again there is no smoke from the wood stove going onto the living space and all the piping and fan and electrical (DC) will be out on the porch (controlled from inside) and protected from rain. Friends that have seen it work (with the AC voltage--at "the barn") and...
BTW. Pellet stoves can have fans and motors--one fan to blow warm air around the room, an auger to feed the pellets to the burn pot and a fan to move the hot exhaust gases to the outside of a building. In fact Tjernlund Products, Inc. makes a hot exhaust gas extractor: "Model AD-1 Auto-Draft...
Also vertical pipe run is about 3 feet, horizontal run 6 feet and with no fan used at "the barn" the smoke exited OK...but opening the door to feed it allowed smoke to enter the living space but when the fan was turned on (testing using AC at the barn) the smoke immediately stop leaking out the...
Nice reply, Rednecktek. Lots for me to think about...and I admit I'm not solar savvy but very solar curious. With all you mentioned I have also been looking at Will Prowers you tube videos (I believe he is really into all the solar stuff... and that's an understatement! ?:giggle: ). I was...
OKaaaaa, I have the stove all I need is a way to get two 12VDC 2.5 amp fans to run via 12 volt batteries (like from a car/truck) or from solar...by charging the same batteries to run those mentioned fans.

A. Justice: Thanks, you are the second person to hint at smaller CFM. I will do this...been surfing the web. (will do some more testing at "the barn") Had another thought that if I could get lower CFM to work and of course it would be a DC Volt fan, then perhaps I could get a couple of...

Hi, "Just John".... I have talked to the administration about them getting three big emergency generators (there are three buildings in the complex each with about 20 families) and even gave them a tentative design (I've been in construction management at a veterans hospital for 21 years) but...
EvilRoy... Yes, I have a Mr. Buddy Heater....and would need to purchase many 1 lb tanks. Purchasing anything when there is no power is a game-changer, Having to store many 1 lb bottles in a condo or many 20lb propane 'bottles' is VERY problematic (aaaah, not doable...besides I have a source of...
RedNeckTek: Excellent 'letter' I will reply (later to your comments and questions). I also agree that the 200CFM may be too much... but I figure I can not cut a 'board' and make it longer so IF I go big and then can use a dimmer switch control that might assure my ability to control to minimum...
Thanks, Isaac-1, I have one question for you. When the power goes out and I burn up the one 5 gallon propane tank how am I going to purchase any more of them or get the empty filled...when there is no power? I can not store a bunch of 5 gallon propane tanks in a condo...while the status of...
I bet ya don't live in a condo? My mistake way back many years... when I was broke.... I had little choice, now I'm too old to take care of a good size home with land. Sounds like you're a bit more free to do various things... what I'm going to do if the power does go bye bye is not allowed...
To RedNeckTek Ohh, I can put them "on the porch?!" I thought I read somewhere that batteries do not like to be cold?! If I can get "5 days" of continuous usage then that's 7,200 minutes and it will only take me about 30 seconds to open the wood stove door and slide in some wood... (which is...
Stove is a 48 lb stainless steel camp stove with extra welds to seal it and a special door--it's small. The wood is stored in a cage and in a friends barn it is all oak, ash, mahogany...other hard woods from a special cabinet/furniture maker who allows me the scrapes which are usually around 14...
That square sheet metal part is basically what I have (I will have two of them to support the pipe front and back in the window to the porch-- mine is all rigid stainless steel...not flex... and also only 4 inch dia out of the stove!!). But that's not what this thread is all about. I NEED 12...
Hi, Just John... Yes, for you that's best... but I live in a condo and storing a pile of 20lb propane tanks INSIDE my condo is very problematic...in fact, I have stored 75 of the 1lb disposable canisters (last only about 3 hours per bottle) they are easily concealed, I have each wrapped in its...
Ha Ha... I 'luv' my little plug in the wall...! What I meant was that if I charge up the batteries from the wall PRIOR to any outage--charge them and let them sit safe in the corner in my warm condo.... Waiting for the power outage 'hammer' to drop on my head. So if that be the...
Evilroy and Markansas (and others)... It seems I've made this confusing so perhaps pictures will help: The black thing at the right is a high CFM AC ducted fan. 4A connect into 4B and blows the high volume (CFM) COLD air from outside on the porch up the silver tube and out the left high (upper)...
The stove is small, stainless steel, boils water easily, and would heat up the living room nicely...as it does heat up "the barn". I can NOT hook this up at my condo NOW to actually test it... as everyone would f-en freak out...! It will only be used in a complete power outage when it is...
We're back at the fan amperage thingy again... looks like I've got a bit of work to do to figure this out...I have some small fans that have a USB connection that plugs into a laptop and I think they are 5 amps...naaa I don't know that? (I just plugged it in now...as I'm at the laptop punching...
I'm baaaack...The blowers are finished (all the aluminum HVAC tape and... duct tape have been replaced with sheet metal screws and or nuts, washers and bolts...I also have used radiator band clamps to make changes easy (I can remove the blower fans that way and test between 2.5 amp or 6 amp fans...
How interesting...I went to tractor supply which is supposed to have these and it is grayed out... says "can not be shipped to Massachusetts" I think the Democrats are trying to kill me... I'd rather Trump! Ha ha ha :ROFLMAO::eek::rolleyes:
EXCELLENT...RedNeckTek See your message here with my comments in "(((" yada yada yada ")))" Triple brackets. THANKS!!
So, it's just a math problem. You'll need 5Ah of battery per hour of burning so worst-case scenario would be 24hr X 5Ah = 120Ah/Day @ 12v = 1440wh of power
That's easy, if...
