**UPDATE**
I heard back from Rich Solar this morning (8/28/23). I had emailed them a link to this post. Apparently, they read it and will be sending me a return label and granting a full refund.
I would like to thank Al from Rich Solar for being very nice and easy to deal with.
Good to know!
But I think I found the problem... Looks like they scraped the insulation off this whole length of wire during install. I think I'll be leaving this outside tonight and requesting a refund.
Haha! Thank you. All turned out well. The cable connections were all ok. What I didn't have connected yet were the Solar Panels. After I connected those, I turned the main switch on the side of the inverter to the ON position thinking it MAY be able to charge the capacitor. It may or may not...
Firmware will have to be a next-weekend project. Sun is down here now and so I can't power it on. Work will take me away from my home in the hills where this is being installed. There were a couple of green data cables in with my kit as well, but it seemed that the grey ones were labeled for the...
Whelp. Just my luck... Just got off the phone with EG4 and was told that it sounds like my inverter is dead. Now waiting for a call back from Solar Sovereign to see what needs to be done.
Wish me (better) luck.
Yeah, that sounds like a good company to do business with. Not the one that sent me this hot garbage and then left me hanging when I called them with issues...
Ok I just tried all of that and note that the Baud Rate setting is different in the video from what is in the BMS Tools Manual. 19200 in the video vs 9600 in the manual. Neither worked and can't get the Com State to change from "Offline" to "Connected".
Guess I'll just wait to get the...
Appreciate the info. I wasn't sure since I have seen version 2's of the software out there, yet this is a version 1 for the v2 battery. Lol!
Maybe this one should have been titled version 3 to save from confusion...
I'm trying to get BMS Tools and BMS Test up and running for communication with my new EG4 LL V2 And I'm not sure if I have a cabling problem since I don't have the official EG4 cable or if it's a setting problem or what. I'm using a couple of different cables that I've either had or recently...
Not sure if this is the right place for a feature request, but it would be nice to have more data in the app.
How about Amps, Generator input history, and maybe more battery information - each BMS, each cell, etc.
@SignatureSolarJames @Markus_EG4
No, they never gave me a final diagnosis but I assume that one of the internal components gave out. It was working initially, but after a couple of times turning it off and back on to try and get the battery communication working, it wouldn't restart.
Dead inverter.
Took a couple of weeks of back and forth with Solar Sovereign to get an RMA and return label.
Received my replacement last week and installed it and so far everything is working well. Been playing with different settings to get things just right. The eg4 techs here on this...
Thanks. I agree. "Out of Range" would be much better than using an error code that isn't listed in the manual.
But how is above 12 out of range when the app shows 0-25.5 and the manual says "Generator capacity should be between 6 – 21.6kW."

I ordered this battery on Monday and received it on Thursday. Super-fast shipping from Rich Solar... BUT - I open the box and turned on the battery via the breaker and... nothing. Tried connecting it to my MPP Solar 3048LV-MK and still nothing. Tested the output voltage and I'm only getting 6.7...
Are there any specific dip switch or other settings that may need to be changed? It APPEARS in the second and third attachment above that the computer sees the battery with the cable I am using, opened the COM4 port and both sent and received information.
And this is the PC version I am using...
Gave a little more thought to this post as I drove back down to the valley. The Alarm light isn't always on. I can turn on the BMS and the battery's breaker and there is no alarm. When I do that, I test 52 volts on the inverter's battery lugs which shows that the battery is sending power up to...
Paging @SignatureSolarJess @SignatureSolarJames
You may also try working directly with EG4 @EG4_Jarrett @Markus_EG4 but any returns need to go thru the distributor.
Now I just hope they don't make returning this garbage a hassle. I guess that's the nice thing about purchasing this on Amex - I can always just dispute the charge as a defective product and get a refund that way.
If you were in my situation, would you give them a chance to replace it or just...
System is the PowerPro ESS with 1 18kpv and 2, 280 AH batteries. I may also end up adding 2 more batteries.
The manual says the batteries can handle the full 230 that the 18kpv outputs, but i'm curious of the effect on longevity.
I ordered mine around the same time as you, early August for mid-September delivery. Just got my system on Tuesday and working on the install this weekend.
Thanks! I will try the shortly when I can get back out to the system.
Interesting that she says it has to be set to CAN/LUX when the manual states RS485/EG4
Well I haven't yet. The MPP and the battery were purchased to be used together for a tiny backup system/UPS. So I guess I have this to look forward to when I get a new battery. I'll let you know how it goes.
Well, I guess it didn't charge the capacitor after all. As soon as I flipped the BAT+ Breaker, the batteries went into Alarm mode again.
I tried the pencil method and it turned the inverter on for a second, but the pencil started smoking and I shut it down. After I reconnected the battery...
Thanks for the response. Unfortunately for me, I have no clue how to read that diagram or make a converter to use whatever pinouts those are supposed to be. That's why I've been waiting 6 months for EG4 to send me one.
On a positive note, I was just informed that a cable arrived at my other...
I've double and triple checked all of my connections and everything seems to be as it should. The grid, load and generator are shut off/disconnected on the other end. There's no voltage on the grid load or generator lines. The load breaker is turned off. There is no continuity anywhere that it...
Did this work for you? I am looking to do the same thing in order to keep the transfer switch functioning as it should when the inverter turns on the generator. Everything else that I have read so far seems to indicate that a wire needs to be added to the J1 and J2 generator harness to control...
So I updated to CAN/LUX, but still having the issue with the inverter not turning back on. When I flip on the BATTERY breakers on the inverter, the batteries both make a clicking sound and the red ALARM light on the BMS display comes on.
Yes, the cable was received. Thank you.
I'll grab it this weekend and bring it back down the hill with me when I return. I won't try updating the PowerPros up there until I successfully update the LL's down here.
Is there a link to the correct software? I installed the software that was linked on the EG4 website under the LL battery and didn't see any other versions available.
That makes sense.
I tried what you said and still causing ALARM on the battery
Turned on inverter Bat+ breaker, then the battery's breaker, then the BMS power and got alarm. Also tried Bat+, then BMS, then battery's breaker and also got alarm.
Is there any other way to pre-charge the capacitor...
I was super impressed when I saw the video where the folks at EG4 lit the EG4-LL on fire and triggered the suppressors. I'm curious as to what exactly is in the fire suppression modules and how these things work. Aside from the video, I can't find anything at all about these things - not even in...
Those are pretty cool! Might have to look into some of them.
From the video, the ones in the EG4-LL look to me like a small maybe 3 inch metal square. Even if those tubes are part of it, I can't imagine a significant amount of ABC chemical and expellant would fit. I'm thinking it must be...
What exactly does error code 3 mean? It throws this code any time the inverter doesn't want to change a setting. There is no description of this code in the manual so I can't figure out what needs to be fixed.
For example, if i try to change GENERATOR RATED POWER to anything above 12 it throws...
