  • Post in thread: DIY 304Ah EVE cells with Daly 250A BMS

I have just finished my battery build plan. It will be built into an insulated box. It will have a snap action stat controlling 2-12watt heat pads. The EVE 280ah cells will be under compression using poly banding. I’ll use a JK -BMS 200a. I’ll take pics when I build it and post them. It...
  • Post in thread: Over panel risk?

A question to you who has experience with over paneling Midnight Classics. I have two series strings paralleled into 2400 watts. Will a third string totaling 3600 watts be ok for the SCC? I’m thinking of near vertical winter position to minimize snow cover. A third set would improve bad...
  • Post in thread: BMS advise

Hi all! I have settled on two 8s 280ah banks for my camp if I can built a good battery in house. My plan needs a good BMS for each pack. Would like to find one that can handle up to 200amps charging and discharging. Needs over voltage, high temp shut down and if possible low temp shut...
  • Post in thread: Off grid cabin solar design

I agree! Here I might be walking through 18” snow? I was resistant but after learning of the options to move the equipment in the camp and figuring a way of using very little room , well I said , that’s an answer. I can now go with Regony if I want a display to view at a glance or the Victron...
  • Post in thread: Over panel risk?

Great info Sir! So if I have 3200 watts(No over volts) fed into my CC that’s rated at 2400 then my controller is safe? The rating speaks to the max the CC can convert not the max you can connect? I hope I have this right as I’m in one of those snow zones where for three days at a time we...
  • Post in thread: AC power run or PV wire run?

2 sets in p of 2s panels—I guess that’s called 2s2p array? Is one string a series set? 90volts with peak of 15 A per series string. Hope that is correct? No10 wire may be too light? It has a 30A rating but thats AC.
  • Post in thread: Bi Facial output

An update. A bit short on time to do the final assembly. Need two guys to do it. I took a picture of the panel base frame and the H frame for mounting the panels to. This unit can carry 4 or 6 large panels (42x82”). It will tilt from vert to 65degrees. It can be moved and weighted or...
  • Post in thread: Bi Facial output

Great info! Thanks, this relaxes me about things. Great to know it will limit amps to not burn up. It will be seldom that it runs hot but without safe guards one time would be enough. While reading the manual some of this comes out but in language that does not hit home. Your verbiage is...
  • Post in thread: Victron charge issue

1-yes I have the adapter 2-new unit 3-I have not-I do not know what it is or where to find it The gen is 60 hz I will try the pre loading if the gen?
  • Post in thread: JBD/Overkill vs JK/Heltec BMS

Found the listing on eBay for Canadian Solar 390 watt bi-facial panels. Screen shot posted. I like they will ship 5+ units when most only ship 10+. Their shipping is about 30% less then others I have looked into.
  • Post in thread: Charging differences

Both started at 67% Batteries both 2022 age One set in line for 5 months before other set. No shadows on either bank. The dirt issue is one item to check??? We are neighbors and friends, I think we should compare notes at same time for wattage gains. This might expose differences? After...
  • Post in thread: Separate system for Battery Heating pad

Update: No extra battery and panel and charger—-too much $ and less security. Insulated box 1.5-2” Dow with 3/4” ply ext Option one is as mentioned above—-120volt stat and pads Option two is skip the inverter and get 4-12volt 12watt pads. Wire in series for 48volts. Use a DC remote bulb stat...
  • Post in thread: Getting ready to order panels-- U.P. of MI

Here is a bit of math. The larger two battery box would go 30 days without any recharge on the 280ah battery. This set up with direct power from batteries into heating units can allow the inverter to be off saving power. On a very very very bad day with 4 panels I have seen a min of 800...
  • Post in thread: Bi Facial output

Voc is 48.9. Running amps is 11.54 or 15.0 BF max. 580 watts. I already got 602 watts from them. Rated at 445 standard. It’s the added bi facial power that causes questions.
  • Post in thread: Bi Facial output

    2s and 2p. 97.6 volts and 30 a peak.
  • Post in thread: JK-BMS question?

24 volt 3000 watt Victron Multiplus. I use a 150 amp. No issue so far. I’m would estimate a 200 could handle a 5000 watt surge. A 250 would be a safe amperage for surge needs.
  • Post in thread: Getting ready to order panels-- U.P. of MI

Hello Yooper! Lots of battery! I’m guessing that’s why your adding some panels? Are the CS330 the biracial? My panels could load up double the battery bank I have but I’m going to try it and see? I will have a small 7.4 cf electric frig and am using creek water only for showering and such...
  • Post in thread: Bi Facial output

Would be great if it handles thing! Questions: will these panels exceed rating by enough to cause issues due to very cold temps we get????? It was -12f at the camp site today.
  • Post in thread: JK-BMS question?

Thanks for providing that but I’m a novice and do not follow your recommendation. Any chance of a schematic? Thank you!
  • Post in thread: Bi Facial output

12 off of vertical and 16f outside Just bottom on snow drive and top leaning against with garage door. The door could have benifits? It’s only a few inches away. Measured with Midnight Solar Classic charge controller. Checked amps with zeroed out clamp on amp meter. Math from that and...
  • Post in thread: Getting ready to order panels-- U.P. of MI

I am running another vert mount test on a bifacial 445 tomorrow. Today I got .6kwh from one panel mounted vertical with No bifacial access gain (fastened to a garage door) in horrible weather (heavy clouds and snow all day. One issue. My battery filled and SCC went into Resting mode before...

Yes- very limited. I’m in Ontonagon. Not much better. Less snow-only 180” a year here vs 260 there and 320 up in Calumet. Enough panels here can work. Camp is near Bergland. Touch more sun. Get away from the big lake and the cloud cover reduces. MTU—engineer?
  • Post in thread: Getting ready to order panels-- U.P. of MI

Much of the snow slid off after noon. I should have taken a picture then but was busy with other shop projects. If you read on you will see I’m doing more real life tests only in vertical. Did one today in pure crap weather and doing another tomorrow in average winter weather.
  • Post in thread: Separate system for Battery Heating pad

If this system was used here are my thoughts: Yes the panel could heat the batteries till they are warm enough to charge but 1. Many of the protected batteries have reduced charging amps so that would be a consideration. 2. It could take many hours to warm up batteries enough to safely charge...
  • Post in thread: Bi Facial output

You may be right on that. I called up a couple photos from last week and they were marked about an hour apart. The one just after Solar noon was 580 watts and the one an hour later was 503 watts. I’ll have to get them out earlier in a bright day and monitor more closely to figure if anything...
  • Post in thread: BMS advise

If I’m reading this right: building a 2px8s cell bank and installing a single JK to it should provide the AH desired within the BMS limits?
  • Post in thread: Cold weather inverter (Solark vs. Growatt)

Schneider is good stuff too. They offer the split phase you need. Many suppliers praise them. And sell them. Big company and support. So many choices/ good luck!
  • Post in thread: Bi Facial output

I never posted pictures before but I’ll try now? I guess that kinda worked. Now I’ll try the one from last week? I think these work. One is a single panel with about 41volts and the other is a pair of them at about 84vilts.
  • Post in thread: Over panel risk?

Good to know! I have a Midnite solar classic 150 SCC. It has up to 94 A with 24 volt system. I have 4 - bi-facial rated at 445 watts but in trial runs I have gotten from 508 to 618 watts and became concerned my SCC was threatened? Also, I may want to add panels for the bad times and...
  • Post in thread: Getting ready to order panels-- U.P. of MI

Yes, it’s a nice price on them. No shipping is great savings. Just get 6? Hell , 8:). Thanks for the heads up. I can let my buddy know if this option. If I decide to get a few more to over panel then maybe I’ll pick a few up. My wife and I have a home in Iron Mountain too so just a...
