  • Post in thread: Do Fire Drills

Think about how fire could start & think about how you are going to put it out. Do drills, get training, have equipment, have plans. If you are off grid & want to survive, you had better have a plan, or a few plans. What if you have a structure fire? What if a wild fire is coming? Don't wait...
  • Post in thread: Storing heat in sand?

Maybe some of you saw David Poz build a water tank that holds 3 days of hot water . My concept it to use sand instead for a few reasons. I think a sand tank would have no maintenance & last for ever. It would not be a possible source of humidity &/or mold. Sand can get hotter than water. No...
  • Post in thread: Off grid refrigeration

Thermal mass is key. I bought a chest freezer & put 6x 1gal jugs of water in the bottom & I could not get them frozen with the power I have. So I bought $60 worth of ice & "kick started" it. Now I rotate 2 of those jugs into a cooler daily & thats my fridge. As I get more frozen food I try to...
  • Post in thread: Ground rod?

I did not know about those. Much thanks! I need to look up code. I have not done that before. Most my AC experience was in grow rooms. Code was not at the top of the list :p All the great suggestions! TY!
  • Post in thread: Looking for a off grid place to buy?

Meet Juniper Acres Oregon! Most properties out here are 10 acres. I have view of 9 cascades mountains. This area is full of solar farms. All the solar power you need. Wind is good also. Bend is about 30 minutes away. Oregons off grid laws are not the best, but this county doesn't really enforce...
  • Post in thread: Dunning Kruger effect

I think its time to stop being nice to low IQ people. Truth hurts. A really low IQ minority are trying to seize power because they live in a few fantasy worlds. The fantasy world that they are smart is whats going to destroy the world for everyone. When their leader opens his mouth, people like...
  • Post in thread: Freezer having trouble keeping cold in the heat?

Global warming is making it hot. Been crazy (Africa) hot for days. I have no AC. Freezer was not keeping cold. So I put a wet towel over it. Works amazingly well. Stay cool
  • Post in thread: Rosen Powerwall Split Phase MPP Solar Superstrut how to

Here is my system with a Rosen Powerwall by Pacific Algorithms, split phase MPP Solar. I show my technique for mounting to Superstrut when the mounting hole is smaller than 1/4 20. A Strut nut 1/4 20 to #10 conversion. I really like these AIO for growing a system over time. My opinion on them...
  • Post in thread: Anyone know a RS-232 driver for windows 10?

That plug did the trick. Lucky I had just bought the wifi module & had the other end
  • Post in thread: What does a Relion look like after a fire?

The government just gave the banks $1.5 Trillion. Let me be clear, the government through the federal reserve, just gave the banks $1.5 trillion, for free. "Here, have $1.5 trillion but we cant afford medicare for all or feed the hungry or educate the poor... Oh no, we cant afford to give people...
  • Post in thread: Building a solar powered way to sort/wash tons of rocks & gems

Wonder if modifying a golf cart to have a PTO would work? I have a 36v golf cart LIP 100ah battery that has a 100a discharge. I do. I started making videos about the rocks trying to find out what they were. Now I make rock videos daily. People in India are loving them. The variety makes...
  • Post in thread: Diesel air water heater keeping 2 shipping containers warm!

I installed a Falaer parking heater in my containers. Its installed in my utility unit with intake & a return in my living unit. The waste heat is keeping the utility unit nearly as warm as the living unit. I get off road diesel pretty cheep & after running with insulation I think its comparable...
  • Post in thread: What does a Relion look like after a fire?

You can say that again. Resource Based Economy. Running the world like a fine machine not a crappy business. If I had to 1 sentence it. Now that I lost most everything, mainly my cats. I'm going to move to Thailand & work on a book on RBE.
  • Post in thread: Lets build an open source solar generator

Okay I have a idea. Lets (us on this forum) design 3 sizes of these solar generators. We can basically open source the build. Think Wills video about a hand truck power but in maybe a pelican case. We can list parts & make build videos. Open source is a beautiful thing. Like Will said, "these...
  • Post in thread: How I wrapped my mind around wrighting wind curves for Midnite CC

I put up a 12v wind turbine last year this time. It was DC & 11 blades so it didn't have curves written for it. I had a call with a guy at Midnite & he wrote my 1st set. After observing the turbine for a few days I saw it needed better curves. Here is how I was able to understand how to wright...
  • Post in thread: Building a solar powered way to sort/wash tons of rocks & gems

I really don't know much about motors. I figure I'll start posting here & by the time I am ready to start building I should have a pretty good idea of what I need. Like is it better to run a motor on each grader or 1 big motor to run them all. This is kinda what I am looking at doing

  • Post in thread: Strut into container

On mobile oops Those are J bolts bolted right to the tie downs in the container. Not sure how ubiquitous those tie downs are but it works super good.
  • Post in thread: Vertical strut mount winter array

Well I got the array wired yesterday & holy cow do I get a lot of power now. 9am where I am & I am getting 1400w, the bottom 2 are shaded. Unfortunately the battery dipped to 40v & that cuts the inverter off until it gets to 46v. Cloudy day, might have to go rent a generator to get up to 46v...
  • Post in thread: Strut into container

I had to drill the holes out to work with strut nuts. It was kinda a pain to tighten the top bolt. Better way might be to use a smaller bolt & fab the nut. But, it’s not going anywhere.
  • Post in thread: Wow, a argument for NO BMS?!?!

I guess if you have enough free time you can just be a BMS also. ;)
  • Post in thread: MPP Solar not showing SP1 SP2

I've got it! Needed a USB to RS-232 to the wifi module cord. THE TRICK IS!!!!!!!!! The directions say to have the AIO in no in no out mode. Most in my situation's internet is on the AC out. IE, no AC out = no internet. No internet = windows not able to grab the correct driver. SO Plug it...
  • Post in thread: Cheep easy way to insulate a shipping containers

Its outside. The only thing the mold is in is the caulking around the edge. I actually had one. Need to get a hose for it & I'll run it when I have enough power. It drys by cooling... So I'll be running a heater & cooler at the same time.... No where else to go. Place burned down Jan 31st &...
  • Post in thread: Is grounding the racking structure viable?

Bump I'm going to guess, yes & no. Yes ground the rack. No don't ground to the rack.
  • Post in thread: Inspiration for Wills tear downs

That channel has so many videos of amazing recycling projects with basic tools. Pakistan Trucks is another fascinating channel. When I saw that guy whacking on that battery, Will immediately came to mind.
  • Post in thread: Why doesn’t solar need this gizmo?

Oh ya I hear ya. I built a 1 PV system on my RV that has amazed me. 1 PV 340+w can run my gaming PC with a 850w PS. I added another panel on a tracker, tracker broke & thats how my battery’s are low V. Now I’m adding this 12v wind to this system & maybe 1 more PV but maybe fix the tracker. But...
  • Post in thread: Storing heat in sand?

David Poz did an experiment where he tested solar heating water vs heating water with the pv system. The conclusion is, heating water with pv is cheaper. Only situation where those solar hot water heaters are better. Is if you have limited space.
  • Post in thread: Inverter generator or generator ?

Oh okay I see. Thank you! Well, my AIO has variable charging. 10amp up to 110 amps at 10 amp intervals. To me ideal is not having a generator until I can get a high end model that works with the AIO automatically. But, having the correct battery, rest of my pv deployed & wind turbine will...
  • Post in thread: Cheep easy way to insulate a shipping containers

I consider it a cheaper method than insulating inside because of the other materials required to fix the insulation to the inside of the container & then make the walls usable. And the time required is a fraction of doin the inside. Also, putting the insulation on the outside makes the...
