I thought I would share some of my progress here since people seem to care about battery tech in this community. I've been working on zinc ion batteries for almost 2 years now as a side home research hobby. I honestly encourage people to do the same, it's a really satisfying hobby, and I feel...
I figured I would show you guys my failed attempt at a 40-45 amp hour home made zinc ion cell. I've posted a few threads here in the past about these rechargable cells I've been making. (Check out my previous posts if you want to know more).
This cell had near 450 grams of active material...
Below is a comparison of my progress on my zinc ion home made battery research. This is a fully rechargeable cell. Completely dirt cheap, and super easy to make, it's main ingredient is water filter carbon which can be bought dirt cheap in bulk. The energy density of the cell on the left is >...
Info: I apologize for another short unedited video, when I get the time I will go over the chemistry and energy density(Which is at the low end of lithium). This 12v battery is the largest scale up I have ever done. It's made from the new ionic chemistry I have been working on, graphene zinc...
Thanks. Keep in mind, it has taken me years of research to get here, this battery is my own design, even the chemistry is somewhat unique to anything out there.
Here's what the discharge curve of these cells looks like. As I said before, watt hours and amp hours are almost perfectly matching in every case, especially if the amperage is low. Look at the capacity and energy in that curve.
Great to hear from Will Prowse himself. (I watch your channel regularly). 1000ah would take a long time to test haha. I would need a bigger power supply since mine maxes out at 5 amps. I have some more testing to do before I go really large scale though. Shouldn't be too difficult though...
Thanks. Check out the channel if you want to see how it was actually done. Video should be up within a few days. https://www.youtube.com/@microphotography2090
I have a busy career(Not battery research), and I am making new break throughs in battery tech every week. I want to wait until I am getting more diminishing returns before I take the time to do a video. That said I might do a short video soon.
Here is the video for my 1.1 amp hour zinc ion battery. The video is a quick and easy DIY tutorial on how to make a fully scalable zinc ion battery at home for dirt cheap! Enjoy!
A little explanation: The battery in this video is roughly 10 watt hours, and peaks around 50 watts output. The battery is smaller than it looks, without cardboard spacers between each cell, all 6 cells are only an inch thick when stacked. This battery chemistry was a bit of a fluke for me, I...
Just going to bump this. I am trying to help democratize home battery making. My rechargeable carbon batteries get over 100 watt hours per Kg, at a cost of only $70 per kilowatt hour! So give this video a watch if you are at all interested!
Amp and watt hours are usually identical in this cell. It's a super cap/battery hybrid so it can be discharged to zero. Charges to just under 2v, and discharges down to zero.
The design in this video is specifically made to scale. I don't think there really is any limit to how large you can make it. For fun I might just make a 50-100 amp hour single cell for the next video. Should take less than an hour to construct since the build is so simple. Of course 6-7...
I actually might just do that! I pretty much have the resources to do it now. I'm not sure anything like this has ever been done in a diy home setup, so it could be interesting!
