  • Post in thread: "All In One" systems << Are these the exact opposite of what it reads?

If I may as I am a new member and perhaps can give some perspective. OP detailed how she (he?) bought an all in one and it was not a "here's everything you need to make a complete solar system" all in one. Me personally I would've been too embarrassed to post that but then I actually spent a...
  • Post in thread: assessing performance of skoolie rooftop solar panels

Haha, thank you all. I didn't even think about covering panels with a tarp ?. This morning before the sun was too high I disconnected all panels and just came in from checking the first string that's getting full sun. The number 5 panel in the first series only read 5v. However, I went on...
  • Post in thread: assessing performance of skoolie rooftop solar panels

Thanks to both of you. So I was on phone with Signature Solar (sells my EG4 batts and inverter). Hold time sucked but staff was actually great and knowledgeable staff. Something I hadn't considered goes to your point Vigo is that my charge current default was set at 30A which is the low end...
  • Post in thread: why isnt my EG4 inverter handling load

Had to use a 50' extension cord from the outlet. with compressor running especially at first it's just under 2kw but since I had to turn it on and could not witness immediately after being turned on. There was also a 3' fan and bluetooth speaker using about 120 watts. So given that this is a...
  • Post in thread: assessing performance of skoolie rooftop solar panels

Hey guys I have a 48V system with 2 strings of six 240W panels for a total of 2880W potential. Obviously I'm not going to get that but I find I am only getting on average 1.2-1.4 kW at max sunlight. FYI the panels are on a skoolie parked next to a wall of trees so it takes til about 1-2P...
  • Post in thread: What would you do?

ok I did check my numbers and they are wrong...I doubled checked my home bill and at over June I used close to 40kw per day so that's a shocker. that said I don't need to run my home just my skoolie and there will be some trade offs but running one ac in a not too hot night can probably be done...
  • Post in thread: assessing performance of skoolie rooftop solar panels

My bad Harry, didn't consider that. So cleaning the #5 panel connector I got a consistent 31-32V reading so I think the panel is fine--or at least as good as the other panels. My max now is 1.85kW and 35A going to charge the battery in full sunlight with only a100W fan running and of course...
  • Post in thread: using tandem breakers for mini splits?

I have two 115v 12k Mr cool minisplits that i am wiring to a wfco 8930/50 so using tandem breakers to max out AC circuits since space is limited. seems like I read u have to use a separate circuit for each Mr cool. so I understand a separate circuit gives the full 20 amp capacity but I'm a...
  • Post in thread: using tandem breakers for mini splits?

oh great thank you! so along that line if I were to bridge the bars of the 8930 it seems like i could energize the 50 amp side and use it as extra 30 amp breaker spots...although I don't see anything like that anywhere so I'm guessing something like that would be frowned upon
  • Post in thread: 48 to 12 volt

thanks guys that answers my questions. yea I have the silver finned one but it doesn't have a fuse. i bought that one after the ebayer with the Orion flaked out...didn't think about the fuse at the time so maybe I should return this one without an inline fuse for one with the fuse...I could just...
  • Post in thread: 48 to 12 volt

rmaddy I meant 100ah and thanks for the clarification. so I guess i wrongly assumed if u hooked up to the battery it would be like connecting to an open faucet rather than being like a well to draw water. I guess that is only with ac.
  • Post in thread: using tandem breakers for mini splits?

this panel can be wired for either 30amp or 50 amp shore power and also has a separate section to wire DC . I should've been more clear. I am running 30 amp shore power to the one leg. so the question was if you connected the two powerstrip bars together could you use the entire strip for 30...
  • Post in thread: Will's Youtube video scams (not Will's)

I say Will's because it was a week or so after I posted a comment on one of his videos that I received what looked like a notification from Youtube that Will had commented and when I checked it looked like a note from Will that listed and number and said text for your prize. I thought it was bs...
  • Post in thread: adding batteries...do I need to upgrade wiring

oh and to answer your question yes I have the 3kw eg4 inverter. had I known what I know now I would've opted for the eg 4 6.5kw inverter and I'm a little bummed bc I will end up paying more for two 3kw inverters than if I had gotten the 6.5kw inverter in the first place but I think I would lose...
  • Post in thread: Is it better to have two?

Anyone using two minisplits in a bus or rv with separate air handlers vs one larger unit with two air handlers. I wanted a 230V unit but size and cost wise it was easier to go with two separate 12kw units. Also I have the new EG4 3kw inverter and the matching 4.8kw 48V server battery and hope...
  • Post in thread: 48 to 12 volt

this will be a gridless operation
  • Post in thread: why isnt my EG4 inverter handling load

not on start up. in fact when I plugged it in it ran until tank was full and during that time I watched the load on the inverter and only briefly just under 2kw but otherwise in the 1400 watt range
  • Post in thread: using tandem breakers for mini splits?

no worries ampster. appreciate the input. as far as a 50 amp plug in issue I would guess that would only be a problem if there was a 50 amp outlet to plug into which there will not be. the minis do require a 20 amp breaker will have to see the pull on start up...hoping that as long as they...
  • Post in thread: using tandem breakers for mini splits?

good point...although the only way to know for sure would be to test it out :D
  • Post in thread: Is it better to have two?

That's what I have with the 20. Accounting for 85% efficiency that's 4kw. I was planning 2 rows of six on either side but that is not going to look good on this bus so will run them side by side on the middle rails which puts them 1" up in the middle but drops off to about 4" at the ends which...
  • Post in thread: why isnt my EG4 inverter handling load

    yea bp= battery disconnected
  • Post in thread: What would you do?

I have one EG4 standard server rack 48V batt paired with the EG4 3000W inverter for my skoolie build and with 2 110V 12k mini splits I'm already seeing this set up will not be enough without significant power restraints when both minisplits are running or add another inverter/battery. The...
  • Post in thread: Is it better to have two?

well my inverter is 3000 max so this is where I'm at. if I have to get another 3kw inverter it's still only the price of the what the 6kw was in the first place and I don't think I will really have lost out bc the EG4s are made to easily run in parallel and I can even get 240V out if I did that.
  • Post in thread: new here hi everyone and question about connecting panels

Thank you. I have heard recommendations for using fuses for more than one string as well as only when more than two strings so I wasn't sure. I also understand a good combiner box should contain diodes which should bypass faulty panels in a longer string. But I am still learning.
  • Post in thread: why isnt my EG4 inverter handling load

unfortunately when ur dealing with a 40' bus tools must reach where the bus is parked and not the other way around. the extension cord was an unwanted necessity. the compressor is 13A and 120v and the inverter has a 150-200% overload protection for five seconds so i guess I'm expecting much more...
  • Post in thread: why isnt my EG4 inverter handling load

battery is the basic 48v lifepo4 with 100a, yes one of first things I did was hook up inverter to battery with supplied cable, I don't have laptop and after spending two days trying and failing to get their smart ess app working I have no record of what was going on at shutdown..fyi no breaker...
  • Post in thread: Is it better to have two?

fyi that is not my rig i have a 37' thomas saftliner that I just sprayed with insulation and will add more to hopefully get to R8-10 conservatively. There are also no windows as of yet except in the front and rear. Also these minisplits are high SEER 22 and they will gradually ramp up as...
  • Post in thread: new here hi everyone and question about connecting panels

FYI completely new to solar. I just ordered Signature Solar server rack EG4 48V battery to pair with the EG4 3k inverter as well as a pallet of 20 Santan Solar used T series 240W panels (5.5' x 3.25') for a skoolie build. Due to ample space (37' bus) I plan to use 12 out of the 20 on the roof...
  • Post in thread: What would you do?

solar is maxed out at 2880W on top of the skoolie with no extra room...battery I already mentioned
  • Post in thread: Is it better to have two?

Well good to know. Thanks for the insight. I have 20 panels coming. Plan 10-12 on top depending on arrangement. I'll look and see what I get with that and add as needed.
