  • Post in thread: Lighting on PWM load output

Again, thanks for your reply. I used normal wire that would normally be used for wiring in homes. it doesn´t get warm or anything, so I presume it´s OK.
  • Post in thread: Separate panel 80 ft away from others

Thanks again fo all your replies. To me the 16 kW a day my 10 panels produce in the summer seems perfectly normal. Like mentioned above, the conditions have to be perfect to achieve 330W per panel per hour, and this is theorectically only possible 5 to 6 hours a day, often more like 3 or 4...
  • Post in thread: One panel 24 volt battery

Hi, Sorry if this is a dumb question but I’m still new to all this solar stuff. I would like to know whether it’s possible to charge a 24 volt battery with one 330 watt solar panel which has a Vmp of 37,2 volt. Thank you in advance.
  • Post in thread: Separate panel 80 ft away from others

I don´t think I can complain. My ten 330W panels generate about 15 or 16 kW on a good summer´s day, and around 12kW during the winter.
  • Post in thread: Hi, newbie and beginner from Brazil

Good idea. Although it’ll be pretty difficult to find used gear here anyway as solar power is still very much a new thing here.
  • Post in thread: Growatt SPF 5000ES Vs Growatt SPF 5000 HVM-WPV

Hi, I have been looking at these inverters as well, and what has made me decide for the ES series is that you can run it without having any batteries if you want to. The other inverter always needs to be connected to a battery bank, from what I understood.
  • Post in thread: Growatt SPF 5000ES Vs Growatt SPF 5000 HVM-WPV

I have just bought the SPF 3500 ES model, but am still relatively new to solar, but am trying to do it myself. I only have 335W - 37,8V - 9,3A panels. As the distance between my panels and Inverter is about 100 feet, I wanted to put as many panels as possible in series to keeps the Amps down...
  • Post in thread: Separate panel 80 ft away from others

I have ten 330W panels in series about 100ft from my inverter on a 48V system. There’s another 330W panel I used to use for another smaller 24V system, which now is no longer in use. This panel is about 20ft from my inverter. My inverter supports up to 500V VDC, so I was thinking adding the...
  • Post in thread: Growatt SPF 3500 ES with Narada 48NPFC100 battery no communication

I have been using the Growatt hybrid inverter for more than 2 years now with lead acid batteries, and have never had a problems. Recently I bought a Narada 48NPFC100 battery (details in attachement) which are used a lot in Asia, South Africa and Australia. I live in Brazil where it is difficult...
  • Post in thread: Lighting on PWM load output

Thank you for your answer. I´m afraid my knowledge is lacking a bit as to understand everything you wrote. My PWM definitely isn´t the best, but also not the worst, so I presume it has the basic standards and protections. My lights are good quality ones, and I always try and wire things one or...
  • Post in thread: Growatt SPF 5000ES Vs Growatt SPF 5000 HVM-WPV

Thank you for sharing your experience so far. In hindsight, do you think it was worth the extra money getting the ES model, or do you think the HVM would have been good enought?
  • Post in thread: Battery voltage

Hello, sorry in advance if this is a silly question. i have made a very simple solar set up on which I run a 1000W inverter during the day, and use the full lead acid batteries at night to power 6 led 8W 24V lights for the veranda. These are powered directly by the charge controller’s DC outlet...
  • Post in thread: Growatt SPF 3500 ES AC output voltage

Hello, I have this all in one Growatt hybrid inverter but am having some problems with the AC output voltage. The power I receive from the grid is only about 205V but I have set the inverter 220V and 60Hz as is normal where I live. When I set the inverter to solar only, SOL, the output...
  • Post in thread: Separate panel 80 ft away from others

Thank you for replying so quickly. I don´t think I´m too worried about those small losses if I can add about 10% to my array with a panel that is otherwise being useless. I will connect the panel tomorrow then, and see if my production improves a little. The temperature shouldn´t be a problem as...
  • Post in thread: Battery voltage

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I’ll have to try and measure the voltage in the morning then. But am I right to understand that the volatage of 24,1V in the morning is nothing to worry about, even though I have 4 batteries connected?
  • Post in thread: Mc4 parallel connectors

Hello, I have Growatt SPF 3500 ES hybrid inverter and now have nine 330W solar panels connected in series as the inverter can handle up to 430 Vcc. To add more panels I would have to build two arrays of 6 or 7 panels, and connect the two in parallel. I would really like to know if it’s OK to...
  • Post in thread: Growatt SPF 3500 ES hybrid inverter rapid power dip

Hi again Michael, Thanks so much for your suggestions. I have tried the 8 panel suggestion on Monday, but it didn’t make much difference. BTW, I live in the sub tropics, so about 8 degrees Celsius (about 46 F) is about as low as it gets, just one or two weeks a year, so I think I’m safe for my...
  • Post in thread: Growatt SPF 5000ES Vs Growatt SPF 5000 HVM-WPV

Thank you for you reply. It’s nice to get confirmation that I’m starting to understand this solar business a little. I’m a newby and need to figure everything out by myself. There are no solar shops near where I live unfortunately.
  • Post in thread: Growatt SPF 3500 ES hybrid inverter rapid power dip

Thanks again. The voltage drop I mentioned is only what it appears to be for me for a few milliseconds, I didn’t actually measure anything, only kept my eyes on the inverter’s display which does’t show anything abnormal to me. All the wires, connections and batteries are new, so I can’t really...
  • Post in thread: Hi, newbie and beginner from Brazil

Thanks for replying. Thankfully, it’s not too difficult to find equipment here. However, as it’s still quite a new concept here, there is really not much of a second hand market(yet). Unfortunately importing is not an option here at all: We have to pay an absurd 60% tax on imported goods.
  • Post in thread: One panel 24 volt battery

Thanks again for your answer. I think I’ll connect it to the PWM for now but will take your advise, do a little research about getting a MPPT in a couple of months. I only have the one panel now but want to add another 3 or 5 so probably makes a lot of sense getting an MPPT anyway. Just need to...
  • Post in thread: Separate panel 80 ft away from others

Thank you again for your input. All 10 panels are mounted at a 23°, as is the lone panel. The 10 panels are facing north, whereas the other panel is facing a bit more north-west. Do you feel this really could be an issue?
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 Sudden voltage drop to 1%

Hello, About 4 months ago, I exchanged by 8 lead acid batteries for one LiFePO4 100Ah battery, made by Unicoba, which is a renowned company with decades of experience in manufacturing batteries here in Brazil. At about 10:30 pm every night, I switch the inverter, a Growatt SPF3500ES, to battery...
  • Post in thread: Hi, newbie and beginner from Brazil

Long time lurker on this forum after watching hours of Will´s videos. I´m English, raised in The Netherlands and have been living in Brazil for 10 years now. Despite being a country with HOURS of sun a day, solar power generation is still pretty uncommon. Because we often have power outages, I...
  • Post in thread: Growatt Shine App

Hello, I hope this isn’t a silly question, but I don’t really understand what my Growatt Shine app is showing me. I have attached two photos which show how much much energy my panels have produced, how much I imported from the grid, how much battery power I used (storage power) and how much...
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 Sudden voltage drop to 1%

Thank you so much for your reply. I’m afraid I have no idea about the cell voltages, or how the SOC is monitored. I just use the data cable with which the battery bms is connected to the inverter. I have attached a picture of the loads just before the SOC dropped. Also attached is the manual...
  • Post in thread: Growatt SPF 5000ES Vs Growatt SPF 5000 HVM-WPV

Hi again, I decided to go for 10 panels, just to keep a safe margin. I have started installing the system, and have connected everything but the batteries. I think I have managed to install all the corect circuit breakers and fuses, except for the batteries. I have 8 batteries, 4s2p of 115 Amp...
  • Post in thread: Hi, newbie and beginner from Brazil

Thank you for replying. The water pump will be running during the day only. I was thinking 24v too, just not sure about which panels to get: a few lower wattage ones or already splash out for a couple of good ones around 350W.
  • Post in thread: Mc4 parallel connectors

Thank you for your reply. I will be joining two strings of about 300Vcc and 9.5A each, so I suppose that should be fine. Should I use a 20A fuse or maybe just a little higher? Thanks again.
  • Post in thread: One panel 24 volt battery

Thanks for your quick reply. I already have a PWM charge controller which can handle 24 volt. Can’t I use that for the time being or does it have to be a MPPT?
