This is an anti-DIY message specific to DIY batteries, so I apologize, but my message for the masses is, unless you know what you're getting into, consider buying a pre-assembled battery.
Deciding to DIY my solar battery was one of my worst mistakes ever.
I'm still not done yet, and so far the...
If anyone is looking for a reasonably-priced highly qualified solar consultant, I highly recommend Todd @ncsolarelectric here on this forum.
When we started on our DIY solar project, we were completely lost. Todd patiently provided all the advice and information we needed. He's been absolutely...
Yeah I didn't really understand that. I was hoping people would talk about me and say "Wow, that dude Kolek has some big brass nuts!"
But in the end, it turns out my big brass nuts just break and fall off when torqued. Now I feel completely emasculated.
A DIY battery is a lot more doable if you don't stress over the details. Throw on the regular busbars that come with the battery. Grab any BMS. Don't bother to top balance. Don't use a torque wrench. Don't bother with compression. Don't build a case. Don't worry about giant sparks when you...
The moderator @upnorthandpersonal and I have traded a dozen messages over the last 2 hours on this topic and we both agree that the popular video by @RayfromTX entitled "Reduce the Risk When Buying Lifepo4 From Alibaba!" is misleading.
We felt it was important to let the members of this forum...
Or how about
"Put wife outside. Breathe sigh of relief."
She's not only stressing you out over something minor, she's got 75 other dudes here on the forum stressed out trying to figure out how to help you satisfy her. lol.
Just kidding!
Be nice to that lady! You better obey her or else you're...
Seems like @upnorthandpersonal has gone to sleep and I'm about to fall asleep myself. One of the toughest things is buying batteries and not getting scammed when there are so many scammers out there.
Anyway, I hope that this thread ultimately helps someone and good luck to everyone.
Well, to be more accurate, you'd first need to ask permission from your wife, and I really don't see her being okay with you impersonating any 3rd parties or painting your body or face, so, well, so much for that idea. 🧐 But I guess after she says no tho you can post to the forum here asking for...
Huge thanks to @upnorthandpersonal for his amazing patience. @Will Prowse himself commented that it was a pity our conversation wasn't public on the forum.
@Daddy Tanuki
OMG only 1/4" veneer?! Are you crazy? Are you trying to engulf the entire country of Japan in flames? Don't you know that Japanese electrical code specifies there must be at least 1 tatami mat and 1 sliding paper door between a sleeping area and a solar battery?? 😉
Well, if you include Shenzen Luyuan, they have defined these 2 clearly and sell them separately for different prices. Everyone else seems to just be calling what Luyuan calls Grade B as Grade A. And that's just my very limited take on it.
My logic with 2 bus bars is that it's like a thicker wire. If I only use a single busbar, there's a lot less cross-sectional area of copper making the connection. 60sq mm for my wire, 40sq mm for 1 busbar.
Yes, that's true, I have learned a lot. And if I ever have to fix it, I'll be in a much better position than if I had bought finished batteries. Still not worth it though IMHO.
I purchased a Deye 8K AiO system and regret not buying Victron. Deye support is about as useless as they could possibly be. It's almost like they are just screwing with you when they answer. You never get more than a 1 line response from them and the response never actually answers the question...
No actually I was gonna just kinda lay the nuts on top of the lugs gently without actually tightening them, and put a tortilla between the 2 busbars. 🧐
The reason I initiated this post is I watched Ray's video, and because I'm in the market for batteries and he recommended Jenny at Docan so enthusiastically, I went and got a quote from her. In the video he repeats several times how honest she is, and how she never lied to him.
What I found...
Disconnect wife
And no, I'm not misogynistic, I just think life is too short to spend with petty people, male or female. Having a few extension cords visible around the house is not something to get worked up about. If that is a major issue for someone, they must have no serious issues to deal...
I'm actually expecting this thread to get a massive amount of criticism because there is a large contingent of members here who step in to defend both Ray and Docan.
In particular, if someone posts a problem with a Docan order, I see the same 5-10 people showing up to attack the poster...
Wow, this guy gets it. In fact, you won't make her happy no matter what you do. Get rid of the extension cords and the solar generator, and next she will be irritated by the mole under your ear and you'll need to get that removed.
Ask me how I know.
I've dated women like this.
In a perfect world, I like your logic, but most of us can't afford to do that. For those that can't, I guess that's why some of us are here. Trying to find who has the best reputation in the battery business, and who can be trusted. And like you've said yourself, some are more trusted than others.
