Thanks for the idea. I'm running the release candidate GUI, so it's a little different path. I found the setting under Services>VE.Can Port>CAN-bus profile. It was set to VE.Can & CAN-bus BMS (250 kbit/s). I changed it to CAN-bus BMS (500kbit/s) and it sprang to life.
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500EX-48 alternatives with low idle consumption

Thanks, Adam. I had followed some of your journey on youtube. Didn't realize that you had dumped the EG4s. Did you post some videos about the change? I would like to discuss your changes further if you don't mind... either on the forum or privately if you prefer.

I suspect it has to do with the biasing of the FETs or something. Maybe the premium brands use some kind of dynamic biasing or something. Or maybe the massive transformer is just more efficient. I was surprised when watching the unboxing and teardown of Adam DeLay's 5kVA Multiplus how much...
  • Post in thread: Setting Victron Multiplus II to work like EG4 SUB load source priority setting.

I settled on one 5kVA battery since I was mainly looking for a big UPS. It gives me hours of time to fire up the generator during an outage, even without solar. Adding the panels makes it UPS-plus. Great suggestion about SA. I already have a SmartShunt tied into it... that's where the battery...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500EX-48 control panel problem

Yes, I power cycled and let it sit. The unit is only a couple months old, and I was able to adjust the settings when I first installed it. The cable is a direct USB type A male to serial RJ45, and shows up in Device Manager as FTDI. It came with the inverter. It was labeled “EG4 Firmware Cable...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500EX-48 alternatives with low idle consumption

I don't want to cover the loss, I want to largely eliminate it. It's just wasteful. I could keep the inverter off except when the sun is shining, but then I lose UPS capability most of the time, especially at night. And I'm still wasting power when the inverter is on, just not as much. Maybe I'm...
  • Post in thread: New EG4 6500EX-48 upgrade?

Any idea what the firmware changes are? Are these fixes or improvements? Is there a version history document somewhere?
  • Post in thread: LifePower4 BMS test program

I watched this and another video from Signature. I think I have a cabling issue. The cable that the Signature video uses (USB Type A to RJ45) is not one that I received. The comms cables that I received are an RJ45 to DB9 serial cable, A Sabrent USB Type A to DB9 cable, which I connected in...
  • Post in thread: LifePower4 BMS test program

I looked at my order and it appears that they did add it, but I can't find it. I'll have to look around some more.
  • Post in thread: Setting Victron Multiplus II to work like EG4 SUB load source priority setting.

Running an experiment today. I changed the 6500 to SBU and set the battery limits as 54V / 51V. 51V the highest "voltage point back to source" allowed in setup. I really would prefer about 53V... which I believe is something like 75-80% SOC. I have a EG4 battery, but the BMS comms does not work...
  • Post in thread: New EG4 6500EX-48 upgrade?

I got a shipping notice yesterday. The sales guys "1-2 weeks" turned out to be "1-2 days" ;-)
  • Post in thread: dual MPPT hybrid inverters

Thanks. This sounds like excellent advice. Another advantage would be the ability to (hopefully) monitor each string separately for debugging a failure.
  • Post in thread: Using EG4 Communications Hub with Victron

Sure. I made my own cable by cutting open a standard CAT5 UTP cable and rerouting the wires to match the table in the VE.Can to CAN-bus BMS cables manual https://www.victronenergy.com/live/battery_compatibility:can-bus_bms-cable I will make a new cable at some point to clean it up, but it works...
  • Post in thread: Poll: How was your experience with signature solar?

I would have liked to see an option... I have had issues and they are working on it. Not fixed yet.
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500EX-48 alternatives with low idle consumption

I am happy with this inverter except for the high idle consumption. I am averaging a bit over 120w. I mainly use this as grid backup. I am limited in my amount of PV for a number of reasons, and on a good day I can just make up for the inverter overhead over a 24 hr period... about 3kW. Most of...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500 EX48 Shocked Me

Which video of Wills are you referring to? I have not installed any PV yet, just doing some testing. I am measuring very high voltages on the PV input cables of my EG4 6500EX-48 using a scope... 60 Hz square waves... 430 V peak-to-peak on the black lead and 470V peak-to-peak on the red lead. I...
  • Post in thread: Ecoflow Delta questions

Does anyone know what kind of protection the AC outputs of the Delta Max 200 have, besides excess load? Do they have GFCI protection? I don't see any circuit breakers on the outputs. Does the load protection work with a short circuit? Could external GFCI protection be added to the AC output of...
  • Post in thread: Delta Max feeding subpanel in EPS mode

I wanted to feed an essential loads subpanel with the output in EPS mode, but since the loads would be all over the house, I want to make sure that the unit will protect itself if there is a fault of some sort on any of the load circuits. Does anyone know what kind of protection the AC outputs...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500EX-48 control panel problem

I have a new problem with my 6500EX-48. I can no longer enter User Settings. If I hold the ESC button down for 3 seconds, it enters the settings mode, but then displays a fault triangle warning and a red fault indicator. No fault code is displayed. I can go back to other functions, but I can't...
  • Post in thread: lifepower4 bms

I just fired up my 6500EX-48 and after a few minutes I get a frequency readout of 61Hz and a flashing fault light.
  • Post in thread: Setting Victron Multiplus II to work like EG4 SUB load source priority setting.

I have an EG4 6500EX-48 and want to replace it with a Victron Multiplus II 5kVA, but I want it to work the same way. I mainly use the EG4 for grid backup, but have a small amount of solar and use it to augment the grid. Unfortunately, the idle consumption of the EG4 eats up most of the power...
  • Post in thread: Generator start using "ATS" connector on Duromax XP9000iH

This generator has a connector to interface with a "compatible" ATS, but nobody at Duromax seems to know anything about it. I assume that this is much like the ST Switch connector on some Westinghouse models. Since it has 7 pins, I assume that it allows more control than just an external Start...
  • Post in thread: Setting Victron Multiplus II to work like EG4 SUB load source priority setting.

I exchanged a number of emails with Jason at Current Connected, and he believes I should be able to make this all work with the 5KVA if I have a Cerbo and use ESS Assistant. It's a little complex for my taste, since I'm a proponent of KISS, but it could be doable as long as everything is...
  • Post in thread: Sungold Power ESS

I got the email as well. Looks intriguing, but they are being discounted by 40%. Is this an end-of-life product? Any impressions of Sungold on the whole? I can live with 120V,. The only 240V load that I have is the AC, which I could power with an autotransformer and soft-start. Does anyone else...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500EX-48 F69 fault code

I just installed my new inverter, along with a LifePower4 battery with BMS connected. The battery icon is flashing indicating BMS comms should be good. After charging the battery, I got the F69 fault code. Should I be concerned about this? Should I just reboot everything?
  • Post in thread: New EG4 6500EX-48 upgrade?

I just ordered a 6500EX-48 and LifePower4 battery from Signature. The battery shipped immediately, but the inverter is on back order. I called and talked to sales. They said it was because they are upgrading the inverters, and it might delay shipment for "1-2 weeks". Has anyone heard about this...
  • Post in thread: LifePower4 BMS test program

I definitely have the correct address set on the battery, per the manual. I tried both 0 and 1.
  • Post in thread: Setting Victron Multiplus II to work like EG4 SUB load source priority setting.

Thanks for your response. I have seen your videos, but I'm still not sure if I can do what I would like. In the video, it appears that you can emulate the SBU functionality of the EG4, but can you emulate the SUB functionality? Does the inverter know from the MPPT comms when there is solar, or...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6500 voltage on PV terminals?

Thanks for the diagram and circuit description RC. Adam DeLay sent me the link to this thread after I "discovered" the high voltages on the PV input lines and got a nasty jolt while wiring my PV disconnect breaker. I scoped the two inputs and found 430Vp-p on one lead and 470Vp-p on the other...
  • Post in thread: Setting Victron Multiplus II to work like EG4 SUB load source priority setting.

Whenever the PV voltage exceeds the 90V MPPT threshold, the battery starts delivering 34W, and the MPPT power appears to reduce the grid consumption. This is apparent in Solar Assistant, as well as my independent Emporia energy monitor. The discharge happens while the inverter is augmenting the...
