  • Post in thread: Charge stages on a simple marine system

AGMs are more fussy to charge then lead acid and more prone to sulfation if not fully charged on a regular basis. They are better in many ways (charge acceptance / deep discharge) but harder to keep happy. You really should have a minimum of 10% of the combined amp hour capacity of your AGM...
  • Post in thread: Cell Terminal Strain Relief, bus bars, and compression

Sure - keep the Forum informed as to how this work out for you. I think the bus bar issue is the weakest link in these cells. I have had to remove mine twice this year to clean and re torque due to voltage fluctuations... I'm going to try the MG Chemicals 647 that Upnorthandpersonal...
  • Post in thread: LiFePo4 Cell went up in smoke and flame!!

That's a very tight space for those cells. Nothwithstanding the nylon straps, it looks like those cells could vibrate laterally. If there was a largish (1 awg) cable & lug connected to the pictured end-terminal without some very carefully implemented strain-relief on the cable, it seem easy...
  • Post in thread: Any Victron Experts out there? Diferent Versions of the Phoenix 12/1200va?

Bud, i have not testing it on an induction load like a fridge. Spec sheet says it can handle large start up loads. I would be interested in your results when yours arrive. Seems like a very beefy unit for a 1000w inverter...

This Bluesea Sytems is my fav, budget buss bar. A huge piece of copper.. https://www.fisheriessupply.com/blue-sea-systems-maxibus-250a-busbar/2127
  • Post in thread: LFP & Victron upgrade on 30' sailboat

You design looks fine but it's not clear to me if the coms will play nice out of the Epoch 300 with the Victron gear. DC -DC chargers are inefficient and don't provide a lot of power. So with this design you will be relient on your solar. Perhaps not a problem in sunny GA, but not an option...
  • Post in thread: What is going on here? Just got ZKE-40

I bought some EVE 280s from Alex while at Basen around the same time as you. They also tested out around 273 amp hours but they didn't have any major voltage drop when loaded and have stayed well balanced ( except some for annoying bus bar resistance issues, which are not the cell's fault ). So...
  • Post in thread: New Supplier for 280Ah cells: Shenzen Basen

I never had an account with Fedex - so maybe they charge different fees depending on if the recipient is or is not an account holder?
  • Post in thread: Calculation of parallel string battery currents

Thanks for your reply Solarod. Yes, I now see that I had not read your post incorrectly and was dividing where I should be multiplying! Thanks for correcting me or I might have made things worse. It might still be achievable with busbars if you used them with different widths ( i.e 15mm...
  • Post in thread: Advice on my 280Ah Lifepo4 configuration

Steve, did you by any chance look into the REC active BMS (4S version)? A bit pricey admittedly, but seems to be well built. There are a number of satisfied users in the marine world. MP
  • Post in thread: Max cell size for marine applications?

I am not pushing a particular solution here - but one of the benefits of the Frey cells is that, while a aluminium prismatic, they are not designed to be compressed. In fact, they are designed with an air gap btw cells. I believe they are the same as the Fortune cells ( ie Fortune are a...
  • Post in thread: On my fourth alternator....??

Sounds great. Pictures? What's your continuous output at idle or cruising?
  • Post in thread: New Supplier for 280Ah cells: Shenzen Basen

MadMacks, what port were your batteries being shipped to? Just curious as I also ordered cell from Basen and was told they shipped on Nov 4th. I'll write to Basen end of next week for an update if my tracking number continues to not show progress. MP
  • Post in thread: 60280 Batteries IR Measurements (Updated with Spreadsheet)

I was looking at these cells as a safer alternative to aluminium cased cells (EVE, Lishen, CATL). Thxs for the warning to the community. Watching this space with interest. MP
