My position on bms use is this, they are useless and unneeded right up until they arent.
I ran my 18s for like 14 months with no bms. I just monitored them very closely and had no issues right up until one went to 4v.
I threw a huge load on my system to drop the voltage across the whole pack...
I did this with my mpp
Solar 5048mg for some time until I acquired 14 additional cells. Then I rebuilt it as 16s2p.
I have 4 more cells coming so that I can go back to 18s2p. There is no
Problem with doing this.
This project looks great. Well done. I would strongly recommend that you install a BMS on those batteries. T JK BMS would be really smart since it can connect to SA and has a two amp balancer also.
I would just use one BMS for all the batteries and just parallel all the balance leads to the one...
The active balancer in the JK puts it in a different league than the others. Also just because something has more settings doesn’t make it better. The JK gives you access to more than you need and simplifies the operation. I researched online for weeks before committing to the JK and now that...
Oh and the whole “it has a screen “ thing… JK offers a screen too, but honestly you do t need it. For the five minutes every few months you want to peek in on how awesome the JK is managing your battery, the Bluetooth app is perfect. And I mean perfect.
OK, small issue I am having now. I have all sorts of data but NO consumed aH even tho bluetooth app is tracking it. All other data seems good.
Any ideas?
It really depends on HOW you are measuring SoC and what equipment you’re using to measure it. If it is using voltage to measure, then it is totally normal. If you’re using something like a smart shunt then I would be a little more concerned.
Can you share whereabouts you are doing all this? How about some videos so we can follow along?
I am doing a very similar thing in Mexico as you are doing. I am an electrician and a plumber which helps a lot with what I’m doing.
I am
Literally waiting for the painting to be finished and then I...
Hey there, having a glitch I can't seem to figure out, maybe you can help.
I have a MPP 5048MG inverter that is doing something strange. I have a 560aH lifepo4 bank and is currently at around 50%soc.
I hooked it up this winter where we get lots of snow so the low input never seemed off. But...
Ok the Bluetooth shows the bms show the capacity and the remaining aH. I should be getting the proper Victron cable for my smartshunt this week, how will I determine which one shows the battery in the Vrm and remote? Is there a setting?
Also I am on version v2.84 if that helps
Okay thanks. I have it working now, so this is awesome.
Is there a similar type driver so that i can connect the rs232 from my mpp solar 5048MG up to it so I can see what it’s doing?
Thanks again.
I was able to do steps 1 & 3, but when I tried finding /etc/pam.d/common-auth there was no /etc/pam anything. Being unfamiliar with this particular os, can you off some supporting guidance please?
Thanks in advance
Ok I purchased this meter and am having a heck of a time getting it to work. any chance you could make a short video going through it? there is nothing online that I can find anywhere. my exact model # is VAC9010H. @Will Prowse
So when I ordered my JKBMS a while back, I had them include a CANBUS module in the order. (I thought this might be useful).
I have two questions;
1) can this two wire output allow me to connect my jkbms to rpi/Venus ?
2) if not, what is the native output of the interface on the jkbms? Rs232...
I just finished getting my jkbms to communicate with Victron VENUS OS on a raspberry pi.
Very cool. Next will be my smart shunt.
Wanna check it out, click on this Victron VRM
I need to get my 5048MG to report to this thing somehow now
I got it working, and online. https://vrm.victronenergy.com/installation/168137/share/75038d09
Basic being only the BMS, but so far I love it.
Thanks again for your patience and guidance
Andy on the offgrid garage youtube channel actually just did that a few days ago. his summary was most of these LFP cells will degrade faster due to calendar aging than solar usage will
that sounds promising. I purchashed this https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B09C89S4PB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . Do you happen to know which wire is tx and rx? I am pretty certain what red and black do
I have a situation need help configuring.
I have a growatt spf5000 and two 100aH server rack batteries. Problem is they are different brands.
I have 1 eg4 pro with the breaker and the nice lcd screen and one growatt with no breaker or screen.
To get communications working I connected the...
