Yes you are right it hardly remains in absorption mode for 4-5 hours since at around 7:30 A.M I connect the load (refrigerator that consumes almost 10 Amp DC) and at that time only 9-10 amps are produced by solar so battery remain at around 13V and then gradually reaches 14.4 volts after 2-3...
To avoid overcharging, I lowered the bulk charging voltage
Can you please guide how to equalize charge with an MPPT solar charger having no equalization function?
Hello everyoneIs
I am planning to design off grid solar system for my house but I dont want to mount Mppt , Inverters etc on wall as I am living on rent and my landlord will not allow me to drill so much holes into the wall so is it a good idea to use Plywood Sheet for mounting Inverter, MPPT...
Hello Everyone,
I have purchase a DC ammeter for measuring output current from Solar Charge Controller to Battery but on the internet everyone used this for measuring either solar panel input current or DC load current so I am a quite worried should I use this ammeter for the said purpose is it...
Hi everyone,
I have Mppt solar controller having max input voc of 145 volts but in the owners manual it says that maximum 6 panels of 150~170 watts can be connected in series so lets say if each panel has voc=19 volts (i am taking on lower side) than it will still cross 145 volts limit, both...
Currently I have installed different solar panels in series, 2 panels of 185 watt (voc=22.6) , 1 panel of 180 watt (voc=25.35) and 1 panel of 330 watts (47.45). Current of all panels are almost same, (variation of +/- of 0.5 Amps max)
Although the two strings appear to be identical on paper, there may be subtle differences in their performance due to variations in panel age, manufacturer, and technology....
I want to add something
1. When the load is applied, voltage drops across battery terminals despite adequate supply from PV, I can give you an example at peak power PV can provide upto 35 Amps DC @ 12volts but still if a load of 15 Amps DC is applied, a terminal voltage drop of 0.3-0.5 volt...
Yes both Voltage and Current to be measured are within ranges but here current will flow in both directions like in the night time solar charge controller will be on stamdby mode and taking some current from battery so will the ammeter show that current also?
Hello Everyone,
I am looking for a device which can shift input source from utility to Inverter and vice versa without any lag . I saw ATS available online but they uses magnetic relay which do not shift very smoothly. If a computer is connected, it will definitely restart with these ATS
Yes its a tall tubular deep cycle battery, battery usage is limited only during night time for running fans and lights, in the daytime it stays on float charging mode. I forgot to mention also I run fridge on that battery but during sunlight (9 to 5) . It draws 15 amp dc.
Hello Everyone
I have an off grid solar setup with 145 Ah lead acid battery , the issue is that the mppt charge controller does not switches to float charging mode if I run somewhat heavier load like a small fridge which draws around 12 amp dc and the battery stays at bulk charging volts...
The input current from Panel stays at 3 amps at 90 volts meaning only 270 watts compared to installed capacity of 880 watts (180+185x2+330) it should atleast produce 600 watts or more
Battery is small just 60ah Flooded but when load is running output of panels should increase like 6-7 amps at 90 volts but in reality it gives like 3~4 amps at 90ish volts
Hello Everyone,
Today while cleaning my solar panels I noticed that 1 panel has developed some snail trails in 3-4 cell (pictures attached here) I am yet not sure about performance degradation I will observe this today but I am so much worried. Is this totally a due to manufacturing fault or I...
Also please tell can I run a 100 watts fridge on this system by using a power inverter without any damage to MPPT or Battery as fridge has a starting torque load of around 1000 watts???
Hello Everyone
I am trying to run a small fridge (6 cuft) on battery connected in parallel with an MPPT solar charger . The settings of the controller are
Bulk Charge Voltage 14.4
Float Charge Voltage 13.5
My load is ~140W @ 12V and I have a Lead Acid 12V 140Ah battery attached in parallel with...
Hello everyone,
I heard from someone that MPPT charge controllers provide all the current or you can say raw power generated from solar panels to the battery regardless its capacity of absorbing charge specially during bulk charging stage, we can only control the current by decreaing/increasing...
Hello everyone
Today I added some extra distilled water in only one cell of lead acid battery . Now whats the solution ? Should I remove that and distribute in other 5 cells or left it as it is?
But here same current is coming in and going out, I have measured with clamp meter when 15 Amps are being drawn by load the current supply also matches the demand but even then 0.3-0.5 volts are dropped across battery terminals
Hi everyone I'm looking for some input with issues I've been experiencing with my setup that I've recently completed.
The battery was fully charged and the MPPT screen showing "Fully Charged" with constant float voltage of 13.5 volts. I turned ON the off grid inverter connected with same...
Hello Everyone
I am starting my off grid solar project, I have purchased all required accessories and now its time to connect them but I am not sure about the best layout . I am using 10mm plywood sheet for mounting all these stuff. I have prepared a layout for you guys to give me some...
1. SIMTEK® MPPT + Solar Charge Controller
2. There is no option to set absorption time only Absorption Volts and Float Volts can be set, following is my settings as per manual of Battery
1) Bulk Charge Volts= 14.4V
2) Float Charge Volts=13.5V
3) Array power is 880...
But suppose I have 400 watts of solar panels installed with a 12v 100ah lead acid battery then if all power generated is transferred to battery (it will be around I=400/12=33 amps) the battery will be damaged as it can absorb only 10~15 amps max.
1. Infinite duration with heavier loads like Fridge which takes 10~15 amps
2. Without any load or small loads like Fans or Bulbs it takes 15-20 minutes to reach float charging mode once it reaches bulk charging volts, which is 14.4 in my case
Hello Everyone
I have used 12awg wire from solar panels to charge controller the total length of wire is 70 feet but I am not getting good result so I want to increase wire guage. Now can I attach another 12awg wire of same length with this wire in parallel? Will it work or I have to install...
Yes in my mppt Charge controller Bulk and Float Charging Volts can be set, and when battery volts reach bulk voltages then it reduces current and charges at constant voltages until battery is fully charged. But my concern is rate of charge during bulk charging stage, it should be 10 hours for...
Actually the sight glass fitted on the cap was not raised at first so I added some more water thinking that was not enough but in real that level indicator was not working correctly
Hello Everyone,
I purchased a 12volts Flooded Lead Acid Battery last month having 140Mah capacity and installed in my off grid solar system, a brief overview of which is here,
1) MPPT Solar Charge Controller 80A
2) 3 X 180watt Solar Panel & 1 X 330 watt Solar panel connected in Series
3) Pure...
Battery is new, purchased 2 weeks ago, the float voltage mode remains if I run light load like 2 ceiling fan or 2-3 bulbs but on heavier load the voltage increases to bulk voltage settings
I dont understand how someone can set bulk and absorption invidually when both occurs at same voltage???please explain this point. As per my knowledge bulk charging continues until battery reaches 14.4 volts, then absorption starts at constant volts of 14.4 until current drops to almost zero and...
Hello everyone, I have an MPPT Charge Controller with a maximum input voltage of 145 volts and a maximum input current of 17 amps. The controller's maximum power rating is 1500 watts. I'm considering connecting two strings of solar panels in parallel, each with a Voc of 125 volts and an Imp of 9...
Thanks to all who helped me out there now I can summarize that
1) charging current totally depends on battery demand
2) SCC do not forcefully inject more current.
Suppose if its an 80A SCC , panels also has the potential to provide this current and battery is small like 12 volts 100 Ah, then what will happen? Will the battery be charged with 80 amps?
