I love this site, but I hate having to go out to my truck to get my sunglasses for it.
  • Post in thread: Is this 12V battery better than Battle Born?

battery warranties are only good so long as the company is still in business Edit: having said that, I'm seriously considering buying this
  • Post in thread: Struggling with basic LiFePO4 settings in Epever Tracer

This thread is absolutely awesome. I have been struggling with our 4210AN here as I try to find decent settings to input into the parameters page. I'm quite certain, that with this discussion thread, I can finally get this sorted and tested before I install at our cottage this spring. Big...
  • Post in thread: RS485 socket on Inverter?

it appears to be rj45 in size assuming the picture isn't distorted and stretched. however.... while comms ports are not exactly uncommon on mid and especially high-end inverters. What these ports are also often used for on cheaper and no-name inverters is a remote control unit that is not...
  • Post in thread: Can we get a Dark Mode?

yes I've searched it. Posting this thread just to keep the administrator aware that there is an ongoing demand for it. Yes I know there are browser plugins, but they dont always work great.

    im interested in this also
  • Post in thread: Can we get a Dark Mode?

Ill give this a try. I've tried other 'colour switcher' plug-ins for chrome and firefox. While they do an OK job, they frequently 'interpret' a part of a website wrong resulting in certain text/information/controls not being readable/usable and/or they screw up the formating of the page.
  • Post in thread: Co-worker says Im wrong. Maybe you can tell me if I'm crazy.....

OK, so I don't have a HUGE amount of experience building battery banks but this is a pretty basic question as it relates to SLA batteries. For context, I have built a DIY LiFePO4 24V battery. I top balanced all cells in parallel as per all diy writeups. The concept makes sense to me. I...
  • Post in thread: Can I charge two different not connected battery's off one charge controller?

Why are they seperated? Can they be wired in parallel to keep voltage the same and then wire both loads to the bank? Then charge the bank with the SCC-assuming the batteries support parallel config.
  • Post in thread: Need to ground off-grid system but NO soil for ground rod. What would you do?

Here's an interesting snippet from a mikeholt.com forum post. https://forums.mikeholt.com/threads/grounding-bonding-the-big-picture-post.44753/
  • Post in thread: Is it a problem if I cant provide the recommended charging amps right away?

Im trying to figure out if we are making the jump to LiFePO4 right now. We need to replace two of these: https://usbattery.ca/product/us-agm-250/ They have served us for 7 years of light duty but they are done. Basically this is a 12V 260ah bank. If I went out and replaced these today I'm...
  • Post in thread: Epever 4210AN - battery voltage discrepancy.

Right. Ok that makes sense. So given that my old charge controller showed the same thing, it very well could be the wire. Yikes Using it for the feeds from my PV array also. Thought, if it was solid copper, it'd be good but maybe not.
  • Post in thread: Co-worker says Im wrong. Maybe you can tell me if I'm crazy.....

Thanks for this reply. Much appreciated and sheds a bit of light on this for me. Thank you.
  • Post in thread: Co-worker says Im wrong. Maybe you can tell me if I'm crazy.....

I agree with you about not starting off on the wrong foot. However, I guess in many cases it will all come out in the wash. In the machines these run, most only have a single string. The machines were designed for two strings, but as subscriber base drops, the company has started to go to...
  • Post in thread: 1000 watt modified runs longer than 1500 pure sine

You seem to have a potential solution mapped out by some pretty knowledgeable folks here. What about this though? I know car audio enthusiasts use large capacitors wired in before their amps to help with stressing the alternator of the car (headlight dimming with every beat). Could something...
  • Post in thread: Adding a battery shunt to off grid setup- which side of shunt for earth ground?

Yes I am indeed talking about an actual earth ground. I'm certain I've seen multiple wiring diagrams in past reference the negative battery post being connected to earth in an off grid setup. To clarify, the root of my question stems from the incorrect idea that I would indeed get electron flow...
  • Post in thread: question about electrically bonding EVERYTHING together......

I am under the impression that all AC and DC bonding points be connected together including but not limited to: Everything on the DC side such as the PV panels, charge controller, inverter body, LVD, and the negative battery post. and Everything on the AC side including but not limited to...

  • Post in thread: Need to ground off-grid system but NO soil for ground rod. What would you do?

Well the telecom company up this way has bonding straps for their outside plant that go down into the water. Their plant is designed to take power hits all the time. I'm using a 1000W inverter at my panel and I'm planning on running a GFI on every branch circuit leaving the shed. The GFI's...
  • Post in thread: Adding a battery shunt to off grid setup- which side of shunt for earth ground?

As the title states. Which side of the shunt does the earth ground go on for the battery bank? I know that all loads and charger goes on the opposite side of the shunt to the battery. I would think the earth ground goes on the battery side of the shunt for proper metering of battery though...
  • Post in thread: Off grid stereo..?

As someone who's been dealing with an off grid system for about 10 years now. If I could do one thing differently from the beginning. I'd go 24v right from the start. I wish I had someone convince me to do this way back then. If you need 12v for something like a car stereo, just get a 30$...
  • Post in thread: Question regarding stand-by operation for an all-in-one/standalone inverter.

Im considering going with an all-in-one 24V. Probably a Growatt or an MPP. Has idle consumption improved as these types of unit mature in the market? I say idle, and not standby because I don't think, in my use case, they'll ever get to standby, or at least, very rarely. The unit would be...
  • Post in thread: waking up a sleeping battery ....... bypass charge controller ?

Theoretical scenario. I have a 110ah drop in replacement lifepo4 battery. On it's spec sheet it's low operating cut-out is 9.6volts. I am assuming in this scenario that the BMS will go into protect(sleep) at 9.5V. If the battery goes to sleep, I think this may be an issue for my scc. I...
  • Post in thread: Need to ground off-grid system but NO soil for ground rod. What would you do?

I could do whatever I want with my trees ;). I'm not certain this would provide a low enough resistance however?
  • Post in thread: Co-worker says Im wrong. Maybe you can tell me if I'm crazy.....

Hey Everyone. Thanks a lot for all your replies. To clarify a few things.... The decision to only change one battery is not in my "boss's" purview. That's a decision made by bean counters at corporate. If it was up to him, he'd say go for it and replace all of them. The time spent on this...
  • Post in thread: waking up a sleeping battery ....... bypass charge controller ?

Ah I never noticed. and Ive been crawling the settings lately in the windows software. I'll go take a look. That might help. and lol, bareback
  • Post in thread: Confused about how panel voltage gets calculated into SCC limitations. Buying new panels

I currently have 2 x 130Watt 12V panels that I want to upgrade. I have an Epever 4210AN 12V/24V 40 AMP SCC and a 12V LiFePO4 110ah battery Max PV Voltage is 100V for the SCC. @ 12V the SCC is rated for 520W which is 43.3 amps but I can over panel to 780Watts which is 65 amps as per the...
  • Post in thread: HA! Demolition ranch solar foray!

I watch 'Off The Ranch' very frequently. I saw the vlog he did of them filming the commercial. He actually did drive his 5-ton over the panels. But if I recall, in the out takes, a few panels broke before they got it right. hahaha
