The tree hugger in me (maybe 25%?) wants to recall that all the dust you breathe in (along with whatever petroleum industry pollutants might be around) would be happily anchored in the soil if we'd left more trees in Texas... not a personal dig at you: I'm sure you didn't cut them down...
I sometimes forget I am thinking about this differently than most folks as I'm setting it up for a remote island location where acquiring replacement units will be a challenge. The $30 cost of a BMS in my application is not really a consideration. I'll probably order 4 or 5 of them so I have 2...
I'm starting to zero in on Lithtech for a 36 cell order of 280ah cells. They tell me they are CATL cells. I'll return with feedback if I move ahead, and after initial impressions.
Thanks Shawn. Yes, good to keep things as simple as possible. The complexity argument cuts both ways though, in this instance, because a failure of the BMS when you are using only one, can leave you dead in the water, whereas a single BMS out of 4 failing, and everything might be able to carry...
Thanks for this back and forth on design philosophy.
I'm at the stage where I've got a design in mind after power budgeting and considering my site, but have not yet pulled the trigger on the main items for the system yet. I've had covid, and then long covid, and the mental fog that comes with...
I have the pleasure of resurrecting this great old thread!
@Maast - any further insights from the cells that you can share?
Specifically, I'm wondering if you would be willing to post a photo of the top of the 'turkey' cell that underperformed compared to the others.
Lithtech are currently...
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but the 29.5kWh on the shunt and the 283ah/cell (also as per the shunt) don't make sense to me?
Wouldn't 566ah @48v infer 27.1kWh? The 29.5kWh figure would make sense if the voltage were sustained at 52v throughout but of course with discharge from full...
Thanks - I needed to pay closer attention to the discharge curve for these cells. Looks like they only pass through 3v very briefly on their nose dive to low cut off point, so me choosing 48v (3v * 16cells) as a median was nonsensical...
Well, I think what may be being lost in these exchanges, as with most debates that become ultra-polarised these days, is that thinking about one end of the stick first doesn't exclude the other end. Anyone who first thinks about the panels, is still going to subsequently think carefully about...
That seems concerning... my admittedly quick search for start up consumption of 2hp water pumps seems to indicate a punctual need for about 7500 watts... If you're sure the rest of your load is max 3k watts when the Growatt spits the dummy, then it would appear it might be struggling to even...
Just wondering out loud as I'm looking at building a 2p16s pack soon.
Wouldn't you have separate BMS for each 16s group, meaning each BMS would 'only' need to cope with 280 amps at 1C ?
