  • Post in thread: Low voltage alarm and full battery. Is my inverter broken?

Solved: I replaced the battery in the meter and the readings are back to normal. That thing made me discharge my batteries hard, but at least its not them that are broken. I was thinking it was be impossible to increase the voltage like that! Thanks for all the help guys.

I think it can have its place in the northern regions. I am in Sweden. 6 months of winter, 6 hours of "daylight" at the least, up to 2m of snow(that I cant clear from my panels), -30c and where Im situated I dont get direct sunlight on the panels for 4 months of the year. But at exactly that...

I guess it isnt much power for you, but in my situation trying to generate 100w, a 44w pump is too much! The pump in this video is 5w and had 15ft of head. Its probably that making the noise in the video however. I also wonder what the device and green hose in the corner is. So do you have 3m...
  • Post in thread: WTF is up with the wiring on my inverter? Deadly?

I connected the inverter to the fuse box, according to the labelling inside the inverter. Thankfully I did not bond neutral and earth at the inverter because the poles were switched. This is the cable for a socket (no other sockets inbetween) brown is in the fuse and blue on neutral. The probe...
  • Post in thread: Need help with my solar! Is there an automatic battery switcher out there?

Its actually the second time pal. I thought it deserved a more catchy title because nobody was replying and I tried to take the other one down. Cant connect dissimilar batteries mate. Fucks them quick.

The air cooled ones are really noisy, right? Since its meant to be a passive system in the middle of the house and sanity is golden, then I want it silent! Or close to silent... You are going to need to watch not to get your modules too hot, they are quite low temperature. You could still make a...
  • Post in thread: DIY Stovetop 100w TEG build, design input wanted

I am brainstorming designs for a DIY 100w TEG that I want to build this winter. I think it will be a good solution because our primary heating source is a wood fired cooking oven that is on all day during the harshest part of winter and a thermoelectric generator will provide us with constant...
  • Post in thread: TEG charge controller

Haha nothing to worry about, thats just standard procedure .. Im wanting to build one for the upcoming winter and I just started a thread, looking for input. Check it out: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/diy-stovetop-100w-teg-build-design-input-wanted.46999/

Check out this website, Thermonamics. They sell completed thermoelectric generators and individual modules: http://www.thermonamic.com/products.asp?cid=363&vslgjo=zxjyh http://www.thermonamic.com/pro_view.asp?id=801 I have been in contact inquiring about prices and asking some questions. This is...

Me neither, but the multimeter reads continuity between the right hole and the earth
  • Post in thread: WTF is up with the wiring on my inverter? Deadly?

The inverter is ungrounded at the minute, could that be the reason?
  • Post in thread: Should I connect the battery negative to ground inside ac fusebox?

Hello, Im setting up my off grid solar system and Im in the process of connecting the inverter to the main and existing fuse box of the house. The AC is connected to earth. The AC neutral buss-bar is connected to the ground inside the main fuse box. The battery negative, solar panels, charge...
  • Post in thread: Should I connect the battery negative to ground inside ac fusebox?

Hey and thanks for the answer. The inverter is a photonic universe 2000w IP2000. I dont know if they are connected inside. It says in the manual: "For vehicle, boats or other mobile systems with negative common ground, use the earth cable (yellow/green if supplied with the inverter) to...
  • Post in thread: WTF is up with the wiring on my inverter? Deadly?

The resistance starts off high then drops down to precisely 1 ohm between what my multimeter suggests neutral and ground and what everything else says is the live and ground. Could it be these safety caps that are causing the readings? Should I trust my multimeters volt readings and that the...

Hi Matt, The TEGs Im looking at are proper high temp modules designed for power generation. They have a working temp of up to 330c and 400c intermittently. http://www.thermonamic.com/pro_view.asp?id=801 Check out the specification sheets if youre interested. There are some nice graphs. Too hot...
  • Post in thread: Need help with my solar! Is there an automatic battery switcher out there?

I am being offered many used truck batteries for free from a neighbour that repairs trucks at a volvo factory. The batteries are 12v 235ah volvo lead acid batteries that often still have quite a bit of life left. I know that one shouldnt connect dissimilar batteries in series or parallel but is...
  • Post in thread: DIY Stovetop 100w TEG build, design input wanted

Very very awesome, both of you! Don, thats exactly what I had in mind, just with modules glued to the bottom of the pot so I have a lot to learn from you. So your water pump uses 44watts of power. Thats quite a lot. does it need to be that big? Have you considered putting modules on your pot...
  • Post in thread: WTF is up with the wiring on my inverter? Deadly?

I plugged in a lightbulb in parallel, I tested with the multoimeter, no difference in results. (the result being, steady 220v from earth to whats labelled and coloured neutral and steady 0v between earth and whats labelled and coloured live. Then i tested with this pen and no difference in...
  • Post in thread: DIY Stovetop 100w TEG build, design input wanted

These are the prices of the TEGs from Thermonamic. Getting 10 pieces of 40x40mm seems the cheapest option per watt. Each module is 9.8w, they are graphite coated so no need for thermal grease, and notice that 10 pieces include shipping! The rest of the options are getting kind of expensive. Ive...

Good ideas with the overheating warning. I have access to 2 car radiators, do you think that will do the job?
  • Post in thread: WTF is up with the wiring on my inverter? Deadly?

Okay do you have an explanation for why the voltage is on the wrong side to what it should be?
  • Post in thread: DIY Stovetop 100w TEG build, design input wanted

This is more prices from Thermonamic. If 5 or 10 people got together then the ready-built 100w generator is a very good option indeed! It would probably be cheapest in the end and hassle free. Otherwise getting 3 people together to get 10 40x40mm modules each is another good option, especially...
  • Post in thread: Anyone actually ordered a TEG system online?

Hello, I have been asking Thermonamic for prices. This is the results: If 5 or 10 people got together then the ready-built 100w generator is a very good option indeed! It would probably be cheapest in the end and hassle free. Otherwise getting 3 people together to get 10 40x40mm modules each...
  • Post in thread: Low voltage alarm and full battery. Is my inverter broken?

After a full day in the sun the batteries are 15.2v! Even when the sun has gone down. I have been able to use it normally for some days now without problems. It appears that the voltage of 13.6v that I had when I was getting the alarm is now the new empty, 15.2v is full and its usually running...
  • Post in thread: WTF is up with the wiring on my inverter? Deadly?

I have now tested with a manual electrical test pencil, I thought it might clear things up. However every hole lit up the pen, including earth. I plugged in a cooker with a metal case and the case lit up the pencil when i touched it. I have touched this cookers case so many times, I even touched...
  • Post in thread: WTF is up with the wiring on my inverter? Deadly?

This shows that the fused side is not live and the neutral busbar is live. (that connector goes to the neutral busbar) By this stage Im quite sure that the labelling and orientation is reversed inside the Photonice Universe 2000w IP2000 inverter.
  • Post in thread: WTF is up with the wiring on my inverter? Deadly?

My inverter is a Photonice Universe 2000w. Ive used it for years now with all kinds of devices. But when testing to confirm the polarity it appears to be backwards! Its a brittish plug, those have the live wire on the right, neutral on the left but when I test with the voltmeter between earth...
  • Post in thread: Automatic battery switcher for dissimilar batteries?

Thanks for the advice Substrate, I will stay on guard. I trust him actually, I live in Sweden where people have more money than time and both private people and businesses are throwing out crazy amounts of often perfectly good stuff. He says they replace the battery everytime a truck comes in...

  • Post in thread: Should I connect the battery negative to ground inside ac fusebox?

The chassis ground pin and the ground pin on the sockets are connected. Does that mean that ac neutral and the battery negative will be connected in the end? And please see my post here: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/wtf-is-up-with-the-wiring-on-my-inverter-deadly.33411/ Very weird.
