Thanks, I'll check out those DC-DC converters. At the moment that's the least of my worries, just trying to figure out the battery & BMS!

Thanks for the responses. I drew up a schematic - the two cells would be drawn equally by both loads. I may still be crazy, but I'm not seeing how this wouldn't work!
