To each their own, but I disagree with that. The SOK battery is only 50 pounds and the pelican case I’m planning on using has wheels and a retractable handle. I lug my 3400w propane generator around and it’s no trouble for me.
  • Post in thread: Charging FLA or AGM from a LiFePO4 battery?

Oh ok. Any suggestions for a dc-dc charger? Will discharging the source battery until it is dead harm the cells? I thought it was ok to do that with lithium?
  • Post in thread: How close does the battery need to be to 12v fuse box?

Oh ok. I'm just starting to learn about this as you can tell, it's my first RV and first foray into solar. I guess I'll probably go with the max of the fuse panel just in case I want to add more to it in the future (assuming it's not maxed out already). Thanks!
  • Post in thread: Eve vs. Lishen

So it seems like most of the threads discussing Eve vs. Lishen are from the end of 2020. Apparently that's when Lishen was really starting to be used for DIY solar projects. Now that its been 10ish months since they have made their rounds on youtube and the forums, what would be considered a...

    Thanks for the info!
  • Post in thread: Can you run a battery charger through a solar charge controller?

I have a diy 12v lithium set up that I want to add a solar charge controller to. Currently, I charge the battery with a 4.5 amp battery tender through an SAE port. Can I put a charge controller between this port and the battery and then use the same port for either solar panels or the battery...
  • Post in thread: Can you run a battery charger through a solar charge controller?

So a 30 amp controller with 200 watts of panels will be too much for this set up? The box is only temporary until I finish building a drawer system, at which point it will be taken out of the box and installed into the truck.
  • Post in thread: How close does the battery need to be to 12v fuse box?

What should I put for the load current? Would it be 30amps since I have 30 amp system? Or no because I will never be drawing that much at once?
  • Post in thread: Can you run a battery charger through a solar charge controller?

Ok thanks for the input. This was my inclination but just wanted to double check. I chose SAE for the input since that’s what my battery tender connection is. For the solar input should I use xt60 or an Anderson outlet? Or would another sae outlet be fine?
  • Post in thread: How close does the battery need to be to 12v fuse box?

I am planning on building the classic 400w system. I have watched the Will's videos on the install. In the first video he talks about the importance of having the 12v fuse box, inverter, batteries, and charge controller all very close to each other. I am going to be putting this system in my 25...
  • Post in thread: 12v relay question

This isn't really solar related, but I figured someone here has the knowledge to answer my question... I am following this video on YouTube for wiring winch controls in the cab of my vehicle. The switches I am using (from CH 4x4) say that they must be used with a relay so they don't melt from...
  • Post in thread: Existing rv system

What do I need to be able to be able to charge lithium batteries via my trailers 30 amp cable and a propane generator? Here is a more detailed description of my question if you have a couple minutes: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/charging-lithium-batteries-in-travel-trailer-without-solar.16904/
  • Post in thread: Can you run a battery charger through a solar charge controller?

The only reason I used SAE is because that’s what the battery tender uses, and I wanted to avoid an adapter.
  • Post in thread: Wiring a DC_DC Charger

I am going to be installing this same unit in my Land Cruiser and I am wondering what gauge wire to use. I am planning on mounting the charger in the rear of my vehicle and I think the run from the starter battery to the charger will be about 10-15 ft. I’ve been looking at different wire size...
  • Post in thread: Charging lithium batteries in travel trailer without solar?

Is 20 amps sufficient to charge 200ah of LiFePO4? Will it take 10 hours of driving to charge a dead battery (10 hr x 20 amp from the alternator). For the ac-dc converter, where in the system does that get installed? Can you recommend a good unit?
  • Post in thread: Standard vs Mini / prismatic vs pouch

I am wondering if anyone can comment on the pros/cons of a “standard” 100ah battery from a budget company like TimeUSB and the mini 100ah offerings from redodo/litime/power queen? My use case is that I am building a 100ah power bank to run my 12v fridge while off roading, so while the battery...
  • Post in thread: Dual Battery System with Different Battery Chemistries?

I have a 1999 Land Cruiser that I am beginning to build out for car camping/overlanding. I will have a lead acid or agm as the starter battery. I was planning on also having most of my driving lights running off of this battery. The second battery will be used for running a 12v refrigerator...

I bought 10 gauge, thanks for the info!
  • Post in thread: Charging FLA or AGM from a LiFePO4 battery?

Thanks for the info. I don’t want to invest much money into this since I am going to be upgrading my rv batteries to lithium soon anyway. I’ll probably just hold off until then

  • Post in thread: Charging lithium batteries in travel trailer without solar?

Hello everyone, first post here. I am planning on building the minimalist system in the near future for my travel trailer. My problem is I need new batteries now, but I'm not quite ready to plunge into a solar system for a few months. I plan on buying two 100ah SOK's now. How can I safely...
  • Post in thread: Can you run a battery charger through a solar charge controller?

I’m looking at portable 200 watt offerings, probably something cheap like the allpowers sp033.
  • Post in thread: Dual Battery System with Different Battery Chemistries?

Cool, thanks for the info. Any opinion on red arc vs renogy? Red arc has been popular in the off road community in Australia for a long time, and they have more recently becomes popular in the US. It looks like there 25A dc-dc charger is a little more expensive than renogy.
  • Post in thread: Help me decide: Bluetti vs DIY?

I have done a power budget in the past. I can’t find it but 200ah is more than enough for my needs. Overkill, even, if I run my trailer refrigerator off of propane. I want this for intermittent ac power consumption. Like if I want to run a coffee pot instead of pour over, or if I want to run my...
  • Post in thread: Help me decide: Bluetti vs DIY?

Any helpful links for picking cells? It seems like the favorites change from time to time and it’s been over a year since I looked into doing a diy battery.
  • Post in thread: Eve vs. Lishen

May I have the link for the vendor that you purchased from?

One last question, how do I disable alternator charging?
  • Post in thread: Charging lithium batteries in travel trailer without solar?

Thanks, Min said they will be taking orders early February for shipment at the end of the month. That works for me.
  • Post in thread: 12v relay question

Yes, it’s probably 1/0 or maybe 2 gauge or something. I actually found the specs and the switches are rated for up to 3 amps. Do you think it’s worth testing the smaller wires with a multimeter or do you think it should be fine?
  • Post in thread: Charging FLA or AGM from a LiFePO4 battery?

I put a 100ah LFP battering in a box with a 12v fuse panel to run my dometic fridge while car camping. I attached the basic wiring diagram below. The main way I charge it is with a battery tender via SAE outlet. If I put a sae connection on my travel trailers non lithium battery, will the...
