Solar Eclipse Watch in 2017 The great solar eclipse on Aug 21, 2017, has swept throughout all America. The shadow of the total solar eclipse cut a path of 70 miles wide. It was 1000 miles away from my home at Tucson, AZ. The total eclipse lasted a few minutes along the path of the totality, but...

Long story short, ACDC 12V air conditioner was a big hit at Amazon. First batch of 30 sets was sold out in 2 weeks and second batch of 100 sets will be on line starting next week. Please check the Amazon link for the ACDC 12V air conditioner detail: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DHP82LG

That's right, similar products exist already in other markets. But they are expensive and not very efficient because they rely on the inverter. Hours of operation can be extended by the 12V DC air conditioner.

12V/24V model exists in the market. I think @gnubie made a right point about world market. However, that is not the case for US market. As @Dzl said, some company offers 48V DC air conditioner, but that is for the household application. If we need to install a ductless mini-split air conditioner...

I would like to thank everyone for your comment. It gave me a moment to take a honest look at myself and the business. Is it really a case for business? Will the customer like it if I build it? Who do I know if I have a question? I really appreciate all of your inputs from the DIYsolarforum.

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I would like to run my business idea by the solar enthusiastic. Currently I am developing a 12V DC air conditioner for RV and trucks. It has 6000 BTU of cooling power, 300W-795W power consumption, and rated current of 25A-66A. 12V LiFePO4 300Ah battery can sustain...
  • Post in thread: Solar Air Conditioner

Included is temperature time profile of the 12V DC air conditioner. Compressor fan has been mounted on the rooftop of my minivan and temperature was captured by data logger. It was very hot summer day, temperature reached above 100F (blue curve). Next day I measured it again (orange curve and...

Of course, it is a number game and I'm new to HVAC business. SEER depends on the test condition and 12V DC air conditioner uses VFD technology so it is complicated. I would rather give a metric based on how many hours of operation can be maintained at standard test condition.
  • Post in thread: Solar Air Conditioner

Think a black box. Let’s apply a thermodynamic steady state. Set the outside temperature at 100F and target is to keep inside temperature at 70F. Then we can measure how many hours the air conditioner can maintain 70F for a given battery power. I would call it a standard test condition.

Mini-split type air conditioner can be installed on a mobile hand cart with 12V battery. It is definitely DIY project good for the beginner.
  • Post in thread: Has anyone built a waterproof solar to battery portable setup?

If you need to power up a medical device like CPAP, you need to carry a reliable power source like a diesel generator. As for waterproof battery box, consider XT90 connectors through the pelican case.

That's an awesome project. Keep it up!
  • Post in thread: New to Residential Solar (have questions)

Your ground mount looks awesome. You may keep 2 DC fuse in one DC disconnect box. Keep it posted with the progress in your solar system!
  • Post in thread: DC Air Conditioner (minisplit/rooftop/anything)

Jumping on AC discussion late, but I would like to add a mini-split DC AC: ACDC 12V/24V air conditioners are battery powered, 6000 BTU, 20 SEER, R-134a refrigerant pre-filled mini-split air conditioner. Currently available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DHP82LG...
  • Post in thread: Help needed - 48VDC system (Skoolie)

I'm not arguing the benefit of a higher voltage DC system. As far as AC power is concerned, I understand there is a clear advantage of the availability of 120 volt AC power for other uses. Inverter and a shore power charger would cost as much as you want. Not as efficient though because you are...
  • Post in thread: Hello From Vancouver Island Canada.

Sounds like a good project. Hurry before battery price goes up.
  • Post in thread: Help needed - 48VDC system (Skoolie)

    @Tecchie said he found "Clothes washer/dryer combo unit (found some, yes expensive, but wash/dry in a single unit)" Then, who's arguing here ^^;
  • Post in thread: Solar Air Conditioner

Higher voltage benefit comes from the reduction in the Ohmic loss. I2R transmission power loss requires a thicker gauge wires and protection for the lower DC voltage. As you pointed out, most DC air conditioner uses a brushless DC motor so you don't need an inverter. Less startup surge has to do...
  • Post in thread: Mix and Match different panels?

Solar cell is nothing but battery. Parallel connection adds current and series connection adds voltage. Different size solar panels around the same voltage can be better matched in parallel connection to get the most of power. It could have been interesting to measure the voltages at each panels ;)
  • Post in thread: Solar Air Conditioner

My business model is based on OEM at factory in China and developing 12V model for the RV and trucks. Sorry if I did not make it clear in the beginning.

In my humble opinion, Aliexpress is nothing but outsourcing Amazon out of our country. People don't like Amazon for many reasons and Amazon sellers hate Amazon because of the recent increase in the referral fee. However, we don't want to outsource our jobs to Alibaba. It is about economy and job...
  • Post in thread: New to Residential Solar (have questions)

NEC code says an emergency disconnect should be accessible in the event of natural disaster or fire so be it outside. Solar panel becomes alive with the sunlight. Even if you keep them face down, there is always indirect sunlight hitting the solar panel so you have to be very cautious. Cutting a...

ACDC 24V model is available at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B099MWGM5D Amazon pre-order discount will go away by this weekend. Any comments would be highly appreciated, so please leave your thoughts here.

Coleman air conditioner is designed for RV with shore power. Not only the Colman but also the inverter draw a significant amount of current due to the AC-DC mismatch inefficiency. That’s why DC air conditioner is a better for the RV and trucks. As far as 12V DC air conditioner is concerned, I...
  • Post in thread: Solar Air Conditioner

That's right, inverter style air conditioner relies on the variable frequency drive technology. Since the most vehicles run on 12V DC battery here in US, we need a 12V DC air conditioner.
  • Post in thread: Solar Air Conditioner

I don't have a final product yet. It is rated 6000 BTU of cooling power, 300W-795W of power consumption, so watts/BTU would be 0.05-0.13

I am not a manufacturer, but just a mediocre scientist with 13 years experience in Solar... please see to the other thread in this forum: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/solar-air-conditioner.12558/ ACDC 12V/24V air conditioners are battery powered, but LiFePO4 batteries are not included...

It is a typical mini-split evaporator. As shown in the attached photo, I attached it on the left side of window next to my daughter's seat. Evaporator has a dry mode operation and water drainage runs on the lower left corner as shown in the picture. Refrigerant hoses and AWG-4 size cable connect...

Wait, wait, I think he meant "900 amp hrs of 24 BAE 6V 300 amp hr", which means 4 series connection of 6V out of 24 gel batteries. Speculation goes on 6 parallel connection of 300 Ah, which could mean the total capacity of 1800 Ah and the usable capacity of 900 Ah. As a result, you need 4 280 Ah...
