  • Post in thread: Review of Capacity and Terminal Temperature - cells from Shenzhen Luyuan (Amy Wan)

Hi folks I thought I'd share the results of our first two tests of cells purchased from Shenzhen Luyuan (Amy Wan). We wanted to know three things: What are the individual cell capacities and how evenly matched are they. What is the capacity for a a reasonably high-C - in our case this would...
  • Post in thread: 420Ah Cells on Aliexpress!?

We've ordered a set of 4 of these cells to test. Very, very curious. If they fail we'll be sure to claw our money back (or attempt to) - paid by credit card. We asked the seller: "Hi. Regarding your 420ah cells. The photos show them to be 400ah, not 420ah. Can you confirm what their capacity is...
  • Post in thread: Supplier defends lower capacity as being within 5% of stated capacity

A few people have asked me to name the supplier: The vendor in question is Dongguan Huanhuan Energy Technology Co. They have been mentioned in some other threads, and not often in a positive light. I have no beef with the supplier, but I am planning to write a full review once all of this is...
  • Post in thread: This seems way too good to be true ... 420ah from a "normal size" LifePO4 cell

Just to satisfy our curiosity we ordered a set of 4 cells to test. TBH not expecting them to be anything close to their stated capacity. If they're a scam we'll attempt to get our money back - hoping by paying by CC that will be possible. ... we'll let you know the results of our testing
  • Post in thread: Review of Capacity and Terminal Temperature - cells from Shenzhen Luyuan (Amy Wan)

Low-C test (at 30A) yielded 287AH so all-in-all we're pleased with the cells and would recommend them and Amy. I didn't give you any details on the transaction itself - suffice to say that nothing unusual to report. Our biggest frustration was the lack of shipping info, but this is not Amy's...
  • Post in thread: This seems way too good to be true ... 420ah from a "normal size" LifePO4 cell

So the cells finally arrived, nearly three months after ordering. We were 99.9999% they could not be 420ah (we did have our eyes open so please comment appropriately), but curiosity won. The question was really: How (good or) bad are the cells? Individual cells came out at: 242ah 244ah 242ah...
  • Post in thread: I'm surprised that Victron DC-DC chargers don't look after starter battery

Both Votronic and Sterling DC-DC chargers will trickle charge the starter battery when the house battery is being charged by something else. For example, if you are on electric hook up and your mains charger is charging your house battery the Votronic/Sterling DC-DC charger detects this and...
  • Post in thread: Clawing back money for miss-sold "420ah" cells

Except that the OP (that would be me) specifically asked the seller if there was a mistake. The seller made it very clear that ALL the cells tested out at 420ah. We asked for test results, we were assured that they would all be 420ah. Other people have experienced the same. How on earth can you...
  • Post in thread: Review of Capacity and Terminal Temperature - cells from Shenzhen Luyuan (Amy Wan)

This is the one I use. I have others and I've tested them against each other, found them to be very accurate.
  • Post in thread: How bad are these voltages?

Yes, it's a controversial thing but quite a few people go for an active balancer. It's quite common for all the cells to be very similar voltage during discharge and charge, and only go to different voltages at close to 100% SOC or 0% SOC. Even if they have been top balanced! If my cells are...
  • Post in thread: Clawing back money for miss-sold "420ah" cells

We ran a capacity test using two testers and a Victron smartshunt. Each tester came out at 120ah (so 240ah combined), the Victron came out at 239.6ah I'm guessing they may not argue with those results ...
  • Post in thread: This seems way too good to be true ... 420ah from a "normal size" LifePO4 cell

A bit like another supplier we tried who (we think) re-labelled 280ah cells to 300ah and when we told him the cells are not 300ah he said to expect a 5% deviation as standard. We see “dishonest” and he sees it as ok, especially as we asked very specific questions when we purchased.
  • Post in thread: I'm surprised that Victron DC-DC chargers don't look after starter battery

We've just installed a Victron DC-DC 30a charger into my daughters van. I'm surprised that it doesn't look after the starter battery, my motorhome has a Votronic DC-DC and previously had a Sterling B2B (both of which keep the starter battery topped up). What do Victron owners do to keep their...
  • Post in thread: 32 280Ah Eve "grade a" from Shenzhen Luyuan (Amy Wan)

Amy recommended 10Nm which I thought a bit high. I have however torqued two sets of 4 cells to 10Nm without any problem - those cells need to handle around 220A. Usually we go to 8Nm. We've done about 20 cells to 8Nm.
  • Post in thread: Supplier defends lower capacity as being within 5% of stated capacity

They were top balanced on the usual way to 3.65v We then attached the BMS with the cells in series. The BMS has been set to cut off at 2.5v, one of the cells reaches that while the others are around 2.7 or 2.8 While discharging from around full soc to around 10% the cells are very close in...
  • Post in thread: DC-DC charger (B2B) options and general discussion

Votronic, based in Germany, also make some really good kit. Not sure about availability in USA. We've used their kit for many years and very happy with it. https://www.votronic.de/index.php/en/products2/series-vcc/standard-version...
  • Post in thread: DC-DC charger (B2B) options and general discussion

Most of the Votronic chargers have this in their specs: Integrated Vehicle Power Supply Filter: Unproblematic parallel operation of charging sources (EBL, chargers, motor- driven and petrol-driven generators, solar systems) on one battery. e.g...
  • Post in thread: Led acid to lifepo4

I have a 1994 Euramobil and my son has a 2006 Euramobil, both based on Fiat Ducato. In my case Schaudt built my EBL and were very helpful in explaining how I could disable my charger so I could install a good B2B. I have a Votronic triple charger. My son's camper was more complicated with no...
  • Post in thread: This seems way too good to be true ... 420ah from a "normal size" LifePO4 cell

    Nope. We asked for clarification.
  • Post in thread: Review of Capacity and Terminal Temperature - cells from Shenzhen Luyuan (Amy Wan)

Amy has corrected what she told me, the contact surface is aluminium, the stud is stainless. TBH 10nm seems a bit much for stainless, but we had no problems.
  • Post in thread: 200a BMS options that work.

It seems to me that Daly turned a corner around Nov/Dec last year (2020). Since then their stuff works as stated - at least that has been our experience. Prior to Nov 2020 all sorts of things didn't work properly. If I was to buy Daly now (which I would), it would have to be the Smart BMS (not...
  • Post in thread: How bad are these voltages?

This is reasonably standard for a Daly even with good cells. You're not losing much capacity because at those voltages your SOC is very close to 100% (if you charged each cell individually to 3.65 they would probably all reach that in minutes). TBH Daly balancing is not that good - it's about...
  • Post in thread: Supplier defends lower capacity as being within 5% of stated capacity

I finally tested all four cells individually. The first three cells I tested at 10a The final cell I tested at 20a My tester was set to cut off at 2.3v, which would mean about 2.5v at the cell. My cables for cells 1 and 2 were a bit thinner than I'm comfortable with. My cables for cells 3 and 4...
  • Post in thread: How bad are these voltages?

The other thing I'd add is to make sure your connections are OK. Many people have had unacceptable deltas and have stripped everything off their cells and rebuilt - to find that this eliminated their delta. Important to ensure your busbars are level and clean, and that terminals are clean...
  • Post in thread: Review of Capacity and Terminal Temperature - cells from Shenzhen Luyuan (Amy Wan)

We have a few chargers but use this on a fully assembled battery: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001763082974.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dJUaY47 We use this or the Victron smart shunt to measure discharge for high-C rates...

Have you looked at the Votronic kit in Europe? We use it very effectively (based in UK)
  • Post in thread: This seems way too good to be true ... 420ah from a "normal size" LifePO4 cell

Has anyone actually tried these guys? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002529653237.html I'd be tempted just to see how close to capacity they are. 420ah in my rig would be .... nice But TBH they are very new and their store name looks a bit like the ID supplied by AliExpress. Also can't...

  • Post in thread: Problem with Victron 12v 30A DC-DC on a Peugeot Boxer with smart alternator

We’ve revved the motor to around 2000RPM - no difference. We realise it could be that particular vehicle or a weak alternator, hence why we tried the 10A DC-DC (exact same result).
  • Post in thread: How bad are these voltages?

Your cells are very similar to mine. ..perhaps not quite as good quality. We were trying out a new supplier, while the deal was good their stated 300ah capacity turned out to be 285ah, so we're sticking with tried and trusted suppliers. My cells have gone into my own motorhome, we'd not be...
