On the other hand, DIY types are becoming a rare breed. Many young people can't change a tire, much less build a solar power system. The average age here is probably 60.

I just installed a small emergency backup system, and yes, that is definitely worthwhile.
  • Post in thread: They want to charge you for using the sun now

The update is that the tax is not being considered. "We are happy to report that the authors of SB 846 have agreed to clarify in writing that the bill will not impose a Solar Tax on the solar energy you produce and consume at home. This means you no longer need to call or email your Senator or...
  • Post in thread: Biden Energy Sec claims Solar Panels 30% Price Reduction

These self-promoting officials are scum. They are referring to the "Inflation Reduction" act of 2022, but in truth, the tax credit simply went from 26% to 30%. Bottom line: They are liars, desperately trying to spin a story to make themselves seem effective.
  • Post in thread: Off grid cabin without batteries

Maybe instead of a large bank of expensive lithium batteries, a couple of inexpensive lead acid batteries?
  • Post in thread: Gut check - am I crazy?

This is exactly my motivation. If things go south in event of some disruption, I'll have water, a running refrigerator, a means to cool the house, electric power for the gas furnace, and a few watts left over. I won't be out looking for gasoline for a generator.
  • Post in thread: Another reason not to buy from a nobody website

I should set up a YouTube channel, where batteries are tested, pierced and drilled. They all fail spectacularly. Something like the old MTV show Jackass.
  • Post in thread: Another reason not to buy from a nobody website

Explosions, fires, serious injuries. The host gets progressively more disabled as the series unfolds.
  • Post in thread: Does Solar Pay for Itself? Is it worth it?

I try to prepare for the worst, but I have just a small emergency system. You're setting up a strawman when you define prepping as planning for the end of civilization. There are many disruptive events that fall short of that.
  • Post in thread: Your Charge Controller "Charges" the line between your Battery.

You need to be promoted t The "Solar Charge Controller" controls the charging!
  • Post in thread: Are Solar vendors cherry picking only good product reviews

Is the review on their site? I would guess many won't publish a negative review.
  • Post in thread: Does Solar Pay for Itself? Is it worth it?

It took me 30 years to buy all these tools.
  • Post in thread: Does Solar Pay for Itself? Is it worth it?

Sorry, but the mob isn't going to "capture" bulldozers. With no fast food or energy drinks available, they will be slow and listless.
  • Post in thread: Another reason not to buy from a nobody website

They're really not that cheap either. New LiFePO4 prices are dropping. I've never seen a bargain on his site, and there is no recourse for defective crap.
  • Post in thread: What Budget 200Ah LiFewPO4 to buy for freezing weather August 2022?

The 3rd warning printed right on the battery: Do not disassemble!
  • Post in thread: good clamp current meter

Get one that is both an AC and DC clamp meter.
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar disappointing service

So a new member Asymair95 posts a criticism, with no detail, and doesn't respond for any follow up? Maybe he or she is busy grinding a sh*tload of Harbor Freight axes?
  • Post in thread: Does Solar Pay for Itself? Is it worth it?

It sounds like a leftist paradise!
  • Post in thread: Are Hemp batteries a real option?

Half these guys would smoke up their batteries over the winter. "It started out as a 48V hemp battery, but I'm down to the last 6 Volts.??
  • Post in thread: Gut check - am I crazy?

I am connected to the grid, and have a smaller off-grid backup system. The US is entering a recession, so I'm being careful; keeping cash reserves and not going into debt.
  • Post in thread: Biden Energy Sec claims Solar Panels 30% Price Reduction

So Joe Biden is draining the US strategic oil reserves, and sending oil to Hunter Biden's Chinese communist associates, when millions of Americans won't be able to afford the huge price increases of home heating oil. His shill of an Energy Secretary, the ex-governor of Michigan, instead is...
  • Post in thread: Biden Energy Sec claims Solar Panels 30% Price Reduction

So the Energy Secretary shouldn't be concerned when 20 million Americans are behind on energy bills, and heating oil will soon be $6/gallon? The Biden Administration bears much responsibility for the economic chaos happening in the US.
  • Post in thread: What inverter do I need

You have the option of connecting your panels and batteries in series, and having a 24V system, and running a 24V DC to 120V AC inverter.
  • Post in thread: Another reason not to buy from a nobody website

    A gofundme for medical expenses?
  • Post in thread: Using Super Caps after a DC-DC to supply inrush current on inverter

I am working on something similar and bought two supercapacitor banks to put in series. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FY3BYRW/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_DRKVZRS7F918XNMK9MPQ_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
  • Post in thread: China customs bans shipping of lithium batteries?

That guy (from ?) is just repeating what he's been told. The mods have really let this thread degenerate.
  • Post in thread: cost for PV labor install only

I pulled my 200W panels up to the roof on a rope. If they were any bigger, I might have rigged a pulley. Maybe even an electric winch from Harbor Freight? https://www.harborfreight.com/automotive/winches/1500-lb-capacity-120v-ac-electric-winch-61672.html
  • Post in thread: Is Anybody Else Doing The PG&E Powersaver Rewards?

I haven't set up my smart thermostat for outside control. When there's a Flex Alert, I switch from grid power to solar.
  • Post in thread: Solar Set-up for Well Pump

    A conventional 2HP might need 50 amps @ 240V which is 12,000 watts.
