  • Post in thread: Victron Multiplus 3000 feedback wanted

I have recently installed mine (12/3000) and it sure seems like a quality product. I don't have a lot to compare it to but the programming seems pretty straightforward yet flexible, and the system appears well constructed. I have tested it running the AC in my unit off battery (I won't really...
  • Post in thread: Dangerous batteries?

I just bought the same battery I think - I got it from amazon - its for a power station in my case, and it's a nice-to-have not really critical for me so I thought I would get the cheapest battery I could. The marketing sounds good on these but the low voltage cutoff, as you have found is...
  • Post in thread: Dangerous batteries?

Oh, and my discharge test got me 94ah, not the claimed 100. But I did get a bit more than 1200WH, so I guess if you go 12*100 that works out, still a bit deceptive I think.
  • Post in thread: Connecting solar charge controller at the DC distribution ?

So if I got a battery sense I can connect that via Bluetooth to the smartsolar and the setup I propose should be easy it sounds like. Amazon has them for $39 so sounds like an easy solution and I may work that into my ultimate solution anyhow. Thanks @gnubie
  • Post in thread: 12V 280Ah LiFePo4 battery Build and Test

I ordered a cheep capacity tester from one of the vendors on Aliexpress and have the same situation, stuck at newgistics in Los Angeles for the last 4 weeks. Departed Shipping Partner Facility, USPS Awaiting Item 2020-06-23 01:38:00 [LOS ANGELES,90040] Inducted into Newgistics Network...
  • Post in thread: Bms hvd vs mppt absorbtion value

Oops. That was a typo... 276 to 280 is what I meant to write :-). This was in an ambient temperature of about 95f so I thought it was okay.
  • Post in thread: Inverter/charger vs separate components question

@Airtime Thanks for the information. I am leaning towards the 3000, esp since it fits where I want to put it physically. I'm still figuring out what my master plan for this thing is going to be, and I will open a new thread on my specific Victron questions in the appropriate place when I get a...
  • Post in thread: Going without a BMS for a month. Is this a bad idea?

Thanks, yes I plan to stay in the flat part of the discharge curve while running without BMS, and I will indeed test the cells with a few charge/discharge cycles just to double check. Appreciate the feedback.
  • Post in thread: Connecting solar charge controller at the DC distribution ?

Just to follow up, I pulled the battery sense off the battery and connected it quite close to the mppt, just to see if it was range - and it was. it showed up fine like that. So even though the marketing said 'up to 10m', it was failing for me at like 5m. If I put the battery sense in the...
  • Post in thread: EVE-280 cells should these be clamped tight or spaced for expansion?

Notice the new model is LF280N. old model is LF280. I wonder if part of the low cost on inventory is getting rid of the old models ?
  • Post in thread: Bms hvd vs mppt absorbtion value

When building the pack I did do a capacity test on all the cells. I was getting between 176 to 180 ah from each. I did do a top balance before building the final configuration. 3.65 for each individual cell then I paralllel at 3.65 for 48 hours. Bit since the bms was back ordered I ran these...
  • Post in thread: Going without a BMS for a month. Is this a bad idea?

I'm thinking about going without my bms for probably 6 weeks. In my case I plan to use an sbms0 but stock won't be in until late August. I imagine it might drag out further than that... same situation - we have some travel plans in the RV... I have just finished testing 4 280ah cells from...
  • Post in thread: Inverter/charger vs separate components question

Thanks all for the feedback so far. I was looking at the Victron Multiplus, it looks great but it seems the output is pretty significantly derated as the ambient temperature raises. Considering the 12/3000 - that would mitigate the power loss I guess. I'll probably start up another thread with...
  • Post in thread: How accessible do batteries need to be?

I am concocting a plan where my batteries (4s280ah + chargery) would be mounted behind my power distribution center in my tt. There is sufficient room there and the space is otherwise wasted (imagine 2500rl). The only issue is that if I need to get to the system I will need to dismount the...
  • Post in thread: Bought 16 EVE LF280 Batteries

I bought 4 from them back at the end of May, shipped to so cal was $454, which I thought was a good deal. The cells were 82 each I think. It took maybe a week longer than they quoted to arrive (got here last wed) but that was not too bad. Mine were very well packaged and tested out near...
  • Post in thread: Dangerous batteries?

I will just build my battery - I did that for my RV and the results have been great, I wanted to build a quick little 100h powerstation that I could use for various things (or in case I need more in the RV), and though "hell, the cost of these lifepo4 batteries has come down so much I'll give...
  • Post in thread: RV - 1st real life test of 280AH 12V system

Thanks for sharing, im thinking to do something similar soon here. How many cells did you use? Just re-read your title, I guess 4?
  • Post in thread: How accessible do batteries need to be?

Thanks @mjbeam , yes definitely will have accessible battery disconnects. Easy to port a hole for extinguisher as well - that's a good idea. Question on the chargery:. How much service do these need in real life? Can everything you need to do with it be performed from the front panel? Or...
  • Post in thread: Victron multiplus and smartsolar together

I have a question on how the multiplus and smartsolar systems integrate into a system. 1. How do each of these detect high/low voltage conditions in light of the fact that the other device might be putting a charge on the system? For instance if smartsolar is charging the battery how does...
  • Post in thread: Inverter/charger vs separate components question

Im strongly considering 4s of the 280ah Lifepo4 for 280ah @ 12v. that i would build myself. Not really enough to push a 3000w inverter for long and I might consider the 2000 model.
  • Post in thread: Connecting solar charge controller at the DC distribution ?

I am building a lifepo4 battery but it's going to take a while. I'm pondering putting the solar panels and a victron smartsolar 100/50 in place before this and use it for a few trips we have planned (with the existing lead acid batteries). My question:. The existing batteries are mounted up...
  • Post in thread: Victron multiplus and smartsolar together

Okay, I see now the brains of the system is that Venus/ccgx. That answers a lot of questions. Thanks!
  • Post in thread: Connecting solar charge controller at the DC distribution ?

Yes there is a nose sheath in front of the trailer (pretty sure this is some kind of metal - it's hard). But it didn't stop the battery sense from being seen by my phone from the same location as the mppt, which was what threw me. I guess the phone has a more sensitive receiver.
  • Post in thread: Connecting solar charge controller at the DC distribution ?

I ended up getting the smart battery sense (blue model, 10m) but for some reason, although I join both that and the mppt to the same network, they are not seeing each other. I don't know what to do about this. They seem to be in range (I can stand quite a bit further from each of them and...
  • Post in thread: Dangerous batteries?

just to let you know - I did get a full refund from Amazon this morning, so the seller did come through on that without me having to harass them.
  • Post in thread: Bms hvd vs mppt absorbtion value

Thanks @snoobler I was thinking the same regarding bms controlling the charge/discharge function - its really just there for safety. Im not worried about the 2ah or so top of this thing, so I'm just going to reduce my absorption on both the multiplus and the mppt to 13.9. @GXMnow thanks...
  • Post in thread: Dangerous batteries?

I am far from an expert compared to many others on this forum. I am not in a hurry so probably purchase from Docan on alibaba, or one of the other reputable suppliers (I'm sure there are lists of them somewhere here on the forum now). Be willing to wait a long time though from China. There...
  • Post in thread: Question on pv array size vs mppt

I am putting a solar system on my TT. I have purchased 4 of Rich Solar 200w panels (from amazon) and 1 Victron SmartSolar 100/50 mppt charge controller. I know the charge controller is slightly undersized for this, but my rational was: 1) I doubt I'll get full power from the panels most of...
  • Post in thread: New Daly "Smart" BMS w/ Communication. (80-250A)

I have a. quick question on this BMS (considering the 4s250A for a 4s 280ah Lifepo build for my TT): It doesn't look like the unit comes with a display by itself. If I want just a dumb LCD type of display to mount somewhere on the RV, what are folks using for this (@fhorst I see you have a...
  • Post in thread: Question on pv array size vs mppt

Thanks, I plan to put these in parallel so no worries on the voltage (nor the amperage) but the overall power may occasionally be higher than the mppt is rated for (700). Sounds like this will be fine, if not optimal. I just wish I knew these were going to be 45v & 4.6A when I ordered them...
