Yes, this is what turns me off to SolArk as well. Sure they may be tweaking a few things here and there, but their units are Deye inverters. Most people interested enough in solar and alternative energy enough to actively participate here know this already. I don’t own any SolArk or EG4...
  • Post in thread: Sunsynk MAX 16 KW !

I believe he is referring to the SolArk, which is rebranded Deye sold at 3x the price. In addition SolArks are marketed as being all American Hoorah USA veteran built etc. all of that is tough to accept when you know that it’s a Chinese designed and manufactured product.
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark's Comment on EG4 18k-PV-12-LV

Correct. Sol Ark charges what the market will bear, and they have plenty of customers. If the EG4 18k has legs in the long run in terms of reliability , then I suspect they will have to come down on their pricing. Lord knows there’s plenty of margin for them to do so. LF inverters like the...

I do get your point fafrd and I appreciate your efforts as an exercise in market analysis and insight.

  • Post in thread: Caution Before Purchasing Victron from XYZ Distributor!

If you read the title of the thread, there is no mention of seeking resolution here. The post served to inform users here of a rather terrible experience with victron. If he gets resolution, then he will take the post down. Like others have already mentioned, I don’t regularly read the...
  • Post in thread: Silicone sealant

Silicone is actually a lousy sealant over the long term, as water will eventually get underneath it. I say this from the perspective of being a professional boatbuilder/designer. Your most reliable sealant that is easily obtainable is a polyurethane. You can spend a lot on PU, but you can...
  • Post in thread: Advice Building an electric boat

Cool boat. Not sure what the WB forum would have in the way of BMS advice, it it is a good place for wooden boats, although it’s pretty dead activity wise these days. As far as a BMS goes, having cell level monitoring on the NMEA2000 network isn’t really necessary, and having that info...
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark's Comment on EG4 18k-PV-12-LV

I understand quite well how business works, but thanks. My point is that IF Sol Ark didn’t have an exclusive deal with Deye in NA, then the same exact units would cost roughly to a little more than half of what they sell them for…. Off the boat here in the US. What I take issue with is the...
  • Post in thread: Wow is all I can say

for me masking, how it works, what masks work and why were perfectly illustrative of how willfully ignorant most people are in this country. Well after it was established that only a proper fitting N95 mask is the only mask that offers any sort of actual protection from Covid in the air, the...
  • Post in thread: iPad instead of Victron GX Touch

If you have a cerbo, then you can access directly over Wi-Fi via iPhone or iPad. If you set up vrm, and the cerbo is connected to a Wi-Fi network, then you can access from anywhere. Obviously connectivity is not always possible on a boat, however if the iPad is connected to the cerbo’s...
  • Post in thread: Victron LiFePO4 Lithium Batteries Vs Others

Inside that victron battery are Winston cells. Fact remains that LFP manufacturing is almost 100% Chinese based. Having an all victron system is nice from a setup standpoint if you can afford it. I race on a yacht that is completely sorted with a victron battery system, and it’s nice… however...
  • Post in thread: 32650 lifepo4 cells vs 280 ah cells

Yes. Though these cells for the most part came from Battery Hookup as far as most people here using them. As a result, not all have the proper nuts on the anode and cathode (I had one box of 8 come with no nuts) The positive terminal has an Aluminum nut, while the negative is plated steel. I...
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark problems by David Poz.. anyone else?

While true, I find Sol Ark’s marketing themselves as some all American, veteran owned company selling a bespoke product of their design to be misleading at best. The fact that it’s a grossly overpriced rebrand of a well known Chinese brand is insulting when you consider their entire marketing...

  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark problems by David Poz.. anyone else?

This seems to be a very touchy issue with folks that have bought Sol Ark and like the product. Nobody is telling you to return the product. I for one am thrilled that you like Sol Ark and have had a positive experience installing these units. That’s all great. I did consider getting Sol Ark...
  • Post in thread: Can I trust Chinese Amazon alternatives

I should say, and I realized this after posting, that the charge discharge limitations that these cheaper drop ins have would be largely mitigated by the size of your bank. If all your cables are of equal length from your distribution bus to each battery, then they should share loads evenly...
  • Post in thread: Can I trust Chinese Amazon alternatives

Agreed. 800ah lfp is a ton. I have 540ah, which replaced 600ah of LA, and that is plenty on a 48’ sailboat. I only have 100watts of solar, and that does the trick for my use case, although I think I’m going to add another 100watt panel this season. The OPs solar setup, assuming good exposure...
  • Post in thread: Solar awning?

There are several domestic companies that offer carports intended for solar. I sort of went this route by building a solar canopy in my backyard with a nice patio underneath. I used to have some nice trees offering shade in that area, so I get that now with the benefit of a decent amount of...

  • Post in thread: choosing the right bms ?! 48v 280ah system

I use a REC bms on my boat for the reasons stated by Dzl. Additionally, if you are in the US, ABYC requires provision for an alarm prior to discharge shutoff. Also, CANbus communication between inverters alternators(not in your case) and other system components and the BMS is really nice to...
  • Post in thread: iPad instead of Victron GX Touch

I use the iPad and it works well. If I’m feeling flush, I may get the victron display, however it’s not needed.
  • Post in thread: Least expensive LiFePO4 batteries approved for use with permitted Solark installs?

UL 9540 is the listing required for integrating batteries with the grid such with the connected Solutions program in Massachusetts and the analogous program in CA.
  • Post in thread: Stand alone system for charging an EV

When I plug in my Tesla, I draw 11,000 watts on a 240v wall charger. That can be toned down a bit, but that is the draw.
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark 15K All in One Inverter Released.

I have an all electric home. Max draw not EV charging is about 12000 watts. Max charge when the car is plugged in is around 25000 watts. NoI live in a 1500 at house.
  • Post in thread: Marine LiFePO4 with CANbus?

Lithionics, victron, mastervolt and some others. All are absurdly expensive, just like the ones you’re trying to avoid buying. You could diy a pack and have canbus with REC, Orion, Emus etc. What you then need to consider is that having canbus does not mean that the bms you want speaks the...
  • Post in thread: Will building inspector say no to Solar Panels on flat, metal roof (flimsy) that's attached to eve over patio?

Wytreasure’s point still stands. As easy as it is to be averse to and frustrated with regulations, if you have a reasonable expectation that the insurance premiums you are paying are going to protect you in the case of anything bad happening to your property, it’s best to not give them any...
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark problems by David Poz.. anyone else?

Not the same at all. I get offshore manufacturing and the global economy. A product being manufactured in China is more likely than not. Where your example misses the point is that American Standard, Goodman, Apple etc all design their own products and can legitimately make a claim to the...
