For the record, Dexter reached out to me via email and took care of me in a way that I’m 100% satisfied with.
  • Post in thread: How long do you leave your system unattended?

I have a small piece of off grid property about 2 hours away from my home in San Diego. My system has 1200 watts of solar, 1 206ah SOK battery, and a small victron 1200va inverter. The system is installed in a shipping container with the panels flat mounted. I run a couple fans on...
  • Post in thread: Shipping Container solar AC

Update So I ended up using 2” closed cell foam panels to insulate the back section of my container. I use magnets to hold the panels in place as well as create a small air gap off the steel walls to hopefully help a bit with thermal bridging when the sun beats down on the container. I sealed...
  • Post in thread: Shipping Container solar AC

That’s almost exactly what I was thinking of doing to insulate the back 8’ of my container. Get some of the 4x8 foam panels like that and screw magnets onto the backs so I could just stick them on to the walls and ceiling. I might end up getting the portable AC and use the existing vent hole in...

Can’t help you. I only measure in freedom units.
  • Post in thread: Assuming you pay $0.12/KWh, can you ever come out ahead going full offgrid?

I’m lucky enough to live in San Diego where my on peak rates are .80/kWh and off peak is .46/kWh during the summer. Off grid solar made a lot of sense.
  • Post in thread: Shipping Container solar AC

I looked at the dominoe clamps. Very nice but to expensive for what they are. I bought 1/4” thick 4x4” metal plates, drilled a 3/4” hole in the middle and put them inside the corner castings of the container. I then laid the 8ft long 4x4 post on top of the corner casting. I then drilled a hole...
  • Post in thread: EB3A back down to $209 on Amazon

The eco flow river only has a 300w inverter. Just a heads up because they advertise it like it’s 600watts.
  • Post in thread: Dead SOK batteries

Did you try resetting or rebooting in the app? Click the three dots on top right Click basic settings Enter 200010 There’s some reset functions at the bottom you can try
  • Post in thread: Bluetti EB3A Dead on Arrival (DoA)

This is why I ordered through Amazon. Returned my first one and a new one is already on its way. I get pretty impatient with faulty equipment right out of the box. I’m not about to spend hours trying to contact customer service to find a work around when I can just have a new one delivered in...
  • Post in thread: Overpaneling over a 100% of what a controller can take. Offgrid

I just had 1200 watts (4 320 renogy panels wired in 2s2p) connected to a renogy rover 40a CC for the last 9 months in very sunny souther California desert. Didn’t seem to be a problem other than I was almost constantly pulling the max amps out of the controller and it would get fairly warm if...
  • Post in thread: Questions for people using the Victron Smart Shunt

I like mine. Not sure why so many people complain about the BT. I get about 30-50ft of range on mine depending on what’s between my phone and Smart shunt, which is what I expect from almost any BT device. I use a cerbo so if Bluetooth isn’t possible I just connect via the VRM portal to get...
  • Post in thread: Copper coil pipe in chest freezer to heat exchange radiator

It’s more the power usage required to run a AC and the hole required in a wall. It’s in a shipping container and I don’t want to cut a hole into the steel wall at this time. Trying to find an alternative way. A chest freezer uses 100w plus small fan 50w and small pump 20w, I can stay under...
  • Post in thread: Shipping Container solar AC

I’m planning to put 1.5” foam board on the floor. I’ve seen a bunch of people spray foam the underside of the container.
  • Post in thread: Victron cerbo functions, uses, and more. Please share!

It’s what I ended up doing too. I took my old iPad and just leave it plugged into power and keep it by the solar equipment when I’m at my off grid property. I take it with me when I leave. Works perfect!
  • Post in thread: 550 Watts or Greater Panels

I normally wouldn’t either but the convenience of 2 day shipping, No hassle return, don’t have to order a minimum of 10 panels like a lot of places require, is worth it to me. I’ve read the horror stories on this site; people ordering “cheap panels” from places like signature solar and then...
  • Post in thread: EB3A back down to $209 on Amazon

Seems like these are usually at the $209 price. I picked up two of them last November and have found all sorts of uses for them. I like to daisy link them together to double the battery capacity or use them around the off grid property when I don’t feel like running an extension cord. Great...
  • Post in thread: begin with phoenix 48/1200, add multiplus ii later?

Yes. Combining the units increases the overall output. The Pheonix acts like grid input. The multiplus allows for up to 50amps of grid ac input on top of whatever it’s able to invert from the batteries. So the 1000 watts from the pheonix will be on top of the 2400w from a 48/3000 multiplus...
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar Misrepresenting Victron Equipment

I think even Will was getting flak in his recent review of the Victron 12/1200VA Phoenix inverter. He kept saying 1200 watts and the people in the comments weren’t happy. It seems pretty common to mix up the two and we are just so used to referring to power capacity in watts rather than VA.
  • Post in thread: Something seems off with Victron efficiency

Which leads me to think it’s just accounting for the inefficiency of the inverter because I’m not using any DC loads other than the cerbo which only uses 3 watts. I’ve now tried multiple different appliances and the efficiency definitely seems to be around 75-85% depending on the size of the...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Heat Pumps?

I’ve been looking for a way to keep a shipping container under 90degree during the day in the summer. This AC unit is perfect for my needs even though I already have a solar set up with inverter and batteries inside the container. The problem I was facing was battery size to be able to run the...
  • Post in thread: Shipping Container solar AC

I like the container guy. Been following his videos for a while now. He makes some great bolt on brackets for framing solutions and simplicity. My brother is insulating his container right now and he went with the flash and bat method. A thin layer of spray insulation then rockwool batts on...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Heat Pumps?

Can these be installed with no battery or AC input. Purely ran off solar panels. I have a shipping container with some goods in it in Southern California desert which see 115-120 degrees in the summer. Would nice to be able to keep the container cooled off below 90 during the day using the solar...
  • Post in thread: Solar panel security/anti-theft

Yea. Think this falls under “booby trap” which is a felony in every state. I have read if you have adequate no trespassing signs and warnings about high voltage on the container in can alleviate some liability but not sure it’s worth the risk. Maybe a OSHA decal like this on the container. Ok
  • Post in thread: Best adhesives for “gluing” down aluminum racking mounts to shipping containers.

I did something similar to this but used 4x4 timber to bolt to the pockets and one in the middle to make two 10ft sections. Then I put joist hangers and 2x4s between. Then bolted the uni strut to the wood framing to isolate from the metal container and also allow for a bit more air flow under...
  • Post in thread: begin with phoenix 48/1200, add multiplus ii later?

Yes. Same battery bank . My thought process was similar when I got the pheonix. I wasn’t 100% sure on the final electrical setup, but I needed to power some smaller appliances like a mini fridge, some lights and fans, and a tv. I decided to ultimately have two systems 12v (for small electrical...
  • Post in thread: Something seems off with Victron efficiency

Thanks. I don’t have one but probably should get one. I figured the multiplus would just read what ever power was being drawn by the appliance. I should check if there is still a discrepancy when using a different appliance with more of a resistive load like a radiant heater.
  • Post in thread: Negatives to oversized charge controller?

This is how I’m doing it for my off grid setup. Small 12v system to start off and will use the small and extremely efficient victron 12/1200 inverter to power 24/7 loads like a mini fridge, circulation fans, some security lights and cameras with out worrying about big idle consumption numbers. I...
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar Misrepresenting Victron Equipment

You may be right but it seemed like people were insinuating that SS was doing it on purpose. I was just pointing out that it’s a common mistake. I agree that if someone bought a Victron inverter because it was listed on SS website having a certain spec and it turned out not to be accurate, then...
