Thank you all for the help with some technical questions I had for this install. I thought Id pay it forward and show & tell this setup. 24x 300w 72-cell Poly panels 7.5 kw, 10KW soon. LV 5048 Inverter 2x tesla modules Unistrut DIY Pole-Barn type rack. Misc. Equipment and such. Total build...
  • Post in thread: 10-KW* DIY Install - MPP Solar LV5048 - 2x Tesla Modules

I got to update my system with another active balancer. These do very well with the modules. All cells are within .03 volts of each other. Feeling very safe over a non-managed battery. I went on then to install a second lv 5048. It was very painless with the wiring trough. Also I decided not to...
  • Post in thread: 10-KW* DIY Install - MPP Solar LV5048 - 2x Tesla Modules

Ive added the rest of the panels and now have a full 10KW of solar on my ground mount.
  • Post in thread: Texas/Southern 2021 Winter Power Outage MEGA-THREAD - Experiences & System tweaks welcome.

So my experience was in the southern US. My setup is in my signature and hasn't changed much since the build. However, it definitely will be beefed up after this winter blast. I had no power for 36ish hours and rolling blackouts for the remaining 3 days. We ran generator power at night and...
  • Post in thread: 10-KW* DIY Install - MPP Solar LV5048 - 2x Tesla Modules

The dump load helps use the excess power created during the day. Its good to have and easy to setup on mpp solar units and the best part is the dump load can be anything. I just use a water heater as heating water is very power intensive and a nice luxury to have. LMK if you have questions. You...
  • Post in thread: DIY ground mount

You can do a ballast ground mount. Just add ballast to the footings and you should be allright. Ive seen quite a few ballast style solar projects.
  • Post in thread: MPP-SOLAR LV6548

UGH so frustrated. WHY MPP solar, You No tell me sooner! Looks like the 5048 might get cheaper though and Id get a 3rd one cheap to finish out my rig. However this 6548 or the growatt 12k off grid inverter are about the same price range... The MPP has a superior CC with higher voltage and the...
  • Post in thread: 10-KW* DIY Install - MPP Solar LV5048 - 2x Tesla Modules

I updated the tesla modules with active balancers. Thanks to @snoobler for the help. This is where i started. I took out the telsa BMS and it seems i have the older style modules. I cut the wires one by one and put the connector back into the board. The board itself has the cells labeled and...
  • Post in thread: MC4 Questions

Mc4 should be on the roof incase you have to remove the panel.
  • Post in thread: [WTS] Triple Magnum Load Center (13.2kw) - Pre-wired - Tested and Functional w/ accessories - 7000$ OBO

If I had gotten these earlier, i would have used them but i dont wanna go through the hassle of replacing all my MPP stuff.
  • Post in thread: removed the equipment ground from my converter

Thats a good question. Are the DC grounds and the AC grounds supposed to be isolated from each other? I have everything bonded together on a common ground bar, AC and DC side. Current always go back to its originator, So i figured an AC ground fault would travel on the EGC to the...
  • Post in thread: 10-KW* DIY Install - MPP Solar LV5048 - 2x Tesla Modules

I like unistrut but it does have corrosion issues and its not the simpliest to bond panels together. I had to go to old school and run a 6 awg ground wire to every panel to bond things together. With iron ridge, i'd just have to bond the rails and not every panel. My panels are 72 cell so I...
  • Post in thread: Solar powered altcoin mining system sizing

The only option is if you can obtain natural gas cheaply and also a natural gas generator to run at night. If the NG and maintence costs are lower than feeding from the grid, its viable. Tbh you better off moving your mining op were hydro is .03kwh or less. Mining as a dump load makes better...
  • Post in thread: Direct to water heating.

https://mwands.com/water-heater-thermostat Simple solution. Just need a DC element and this thermostat. Then you can do PV direct water heating for cheap.
  • Post in thread: 10-KW* DIY Install - MPP Solar LV5048 - 2x Tesla Modules

Unistrut did save me alot of money. Id rather buy more batterys or panels than have to spend the extra on racking. Id eventually like to add 12 more panels, i got them for 60$ each used for 300 watts. I don't think i can find a better deal than used commercial poly panels. 5 years from now...
  • Post in thread: Has anyone bought from MPP Solar Taiwan seller on ebay?

Yes, I bought 1 of my units direct from taiwan from MPP solar on ebay. However i would rather pay the extra 50$ for the other MPP Solar USA seller instead, they have better service.
  • Post in thread: 10-KW* DIY Install - MPP Solar LV5048 - 2x Tesla Modules

I'll be adding an active balancer to my Tesla modules. I will update this build soon.
  • Post in thread: My solar system running.

Nice install! Can those growatt inverters be parralled? Or what you buy is what you buy? I did see the growatt 12k and it peaked my interest.
  • Post in thread: 10-KW* DIY Install - MPP Solar LV5048 - 2x Tesla Modules

I fixed a my battery box by getting the 2" metal flex on it. Ill be adding a GFDI from @dougbert when that arrives from his old trace system.
  • Post in thread: 10-KW* DIY Install - MPP Solar LV5048 - 2x Tesla Modules

@dougbert I got my GFDI installed today and also added a timer on my dump load circuit. I think MPP solar should add gfdi protection to their inverters. Its in all charge controllers nowadays and they still dont have the feature.
  • Post in thread: Extension Cord horror

I used a lv5048. Its been solid. I wouldnt put its output on an extension cord, you need to send the power to a panel.
  • Post in thread: 10-KW* DIY Install - MPP Solar LV5048 - 2x Tesla Modules

I saw a new tesla module BMS that is plug n play that is going to be released this november. It will have a screen and everything from overseas. Hopefully it will fix this issue forever.
  • Post in thread: 10-KW* DIY Install - MPP Solar LV5048 - 2x Tesla Modules

Ill be updating this rig with another lv5048 and another battery balancer soon.
  • Post in thread: LV2424 supply a Main Lug Sub Panel?

The MPP inverters have a breaker i believe on both input and output. Its behind the ac input and output holes on the inverter.
  • Post in thread: LV2424 supply a Main Lug Sub Panel?

Thats fine but make sure you have a breaker suitable for your wire size. Going straight from the inverter to the mainlugs with no breaker is a bad idea. I dont really trust those inbuilt breakers on the mpp inverters.

Nice mount, Just keep adding that ballast gravel. It should be solid.

Dang it. I wish i woulda seen these. Lol
  • Post in thread: Hybrid LifeP04 - FLA advice

Wow this is pretty smart. No need to choose one or the other. FLAs are still cheap and have a small LFP pack to keep them nice and topped off.
