  • Post in thread: Looking for a Clamp-on DC (and AC) meter

Thanks for the input everyone. Just an update, I first tried a GVDA GD166B meter. It had good reviews and seem to have the feature mix I needed. Unfortunately it was defective out of the box, Would not measure volts or Hz via the clamp on meter. So I guess I am going to find out how AliExpress...
  • Post in thread: Midnite Solar Announced their new 10kw AIO at Intersolar Today

So 1201, are you saying that AmenSolar is megarevo, or that they rebadged a megarevo unit?
  • Post in thread: The next thing? Inverter or Battery? All in 1?

It would be nice, as well as opening up a wider potential customer base, if your batteries carried a general UL9450 certificate. There are a few other batteries which do, and as more and more localities are requiring UL9540, they are poised to picking up that market. EG4 could tap into that if...
  • Post in thread: Looking for solid intercell bar type connectors

Ideally in tinned copper. I have some flexibility as to size, but roughly 3.5" to 4" OC hole to hole. Equivalent to 2/0 wire or better. There does not seem to be much out there for sale, and the one place I found seems to only sell to industrial accounts. Does anyone know of a place to buy these?

Hi Badbyte. congrats on getting the unit. Just curious if they go into the UL1741 cert in any more detail. Like is it SA or SB, etc.
  • Post in thread: Looking for solid intercell bar type connectors

It's been a while since I used any plumbers tape, but IIRC it is just copper plated steel not solid copper. Even if it is all copper these days, I'd be a tad concerned at high amperage with having multiple "layers" in the conductor. Buying a solid copper bar and fab'ing my own is doable, just...
  • Post in thread: New Tarrifs on Chinese Solar & Batts

Just read an article that the US administration announce a 4 fold increase in import tariffs on various Chinese goods, including EVs, Solar and Batteries. Have not verified this report yet, but if true will likely raise the price of much of what we do here...
  • Post in thread: Thinking things through/Planning an endpoint

Just a thought, when you are adding up watt-hours, any auto defrost (aka frost free) refrig or freezer has a "defrost cycle" which runs on a timer. That defrost cycle turns off the compressor and turns on a heating element to melt the accumulated frost/ice and let the melt water drip down to a...
  • Post in thread: Hybrid systems

Smart load panels can certainly help manage the loads in a grid down or low power situation. However several of the new inverters have multiple load outputs which can be controlled. So you can have a general load panel which will get turned off when power is below a set level, and a critical...
  • Post in thread: Using CT's in an Unusual Design

Loads in the barn a fairly small. A 120v 4gal under sink hot water heater, a ventilation fan of about 300W and lighting. Only significant loads would be supplemental heating with some portable electric space heaters on cold nights. But you are probably right, a cheap supplemental meter on the...
  • Post in thread: Trace 4024 internal breaker tripping

Have the same inverter. I did have that 35A breaker pop once; took me a while to find it. But in my case I think it was valid in that I had a bunch of freezers on it, which were all off for a while due to clouds and a grid power outage, and then they all came on at once. But in researching...
  • Post in thread: Ruixu 16kWh LiFePO4 Early Adopter

As I am told: 9540 can be stand alone for a battery or can be for a battery-inverter pair. Depends on whether the batt (or really the BMS) can meet the 9540 requirements on its own or needs an inverter to control some "stuff". 9540A is a simpler test for thermal runaway.
  • Post in thread: Solar panel testing for the lazy

Just out of curiosity, what does this sort of meter offer over say a DVM with 20-30A current capabilities? Seems that if one check the Voc and Isc on a panel in bright sun, you would have a pretty good idea if it is functioning up to specs.
  • Post in thread: Anyone here watched “Planet of the humans” by Michael Moore?

I tend to agree, not Moore's best work (or even close). The factual basis of much of what they say is flawed (old, already dis-proven theories), and they ignored considerable recent work in areas which were more optimistic and would counter their arguments. It's too bad really because I do...
