An update after sunshine and time allowed for further Tigo testing yesterday:
The 6 panels with Tigos installed have been checked with a EY800W Solar Panel Multimeter and all performed well.
The Solax inverter has demonstrated to be able to run on 4 panels after bypassing 2 panels...
Tigos were installed on all 6 panels that make up the array. And no, Tigo claims one could only put their units on only the panels affected by shade, they do not need to be on all panels.
You need to understand how this works: Panels in the sun have a low impedance producing energy potential...
Re: you have to have some production for the optimizer to function
True, the Tigos are not externally powered which will result in design limitations........ But if they cannot work on the little power available in the shade, they cannot work, which is my experience. However, others have found...
No for Tigos, see report elsewhere. I found they just sit there not making any difference. Could be different if connected to a monitoring system after a software update
I talk from personal experiences from this retired technician which backs up installer Mark Cavenagh's experiences. Posts and people regurgitating sales pitches and promotional material are not convincing for me. Thanks for your response
Good stuff, shows that modern inverters with 'gobal' or 'extended' mppt, like SMA and Fronius, are en par with optimisers under basically all conditions. This appears to make optimisers obsolete. This reduces the number of points of failure and purchase costs
RSD (Rapid Shut Down) currently might be limited to the US. Not a requirement here. You might have got sucked into the world being limited to the US. Well, it is not.
Why would the series voltage have to be limited to <80V for a RSD? Modern inverters allow for 750V inputs. This doesn't make...
Hi Craig,
I have a related issue. We have 2 arrays (strings) next to each other. One of 12 and one of 6 panels. In winter, the same tree shade slides accross them so I installed 6 Tigos on the string of 6 panels to see what happens.
The observation is that with only one panel in the shade of...
ABB's RSD device allows for a maximum of 600VDC (page 11): https://www.fimer.com/sites/default/files/Rapid-Shutdown-product-manual-BCG.00884.0AP-revAC.pdf
My Tigos are standalone, it would appear that systems connected to a central monitoring system do get a software update through the internet which aparently fixes the issue of not working as promised in the sales blurb.

They are talking about parallel panels in a string on their page. The unevenness comes from using panels with different power capacities or putting panels in parallel doubling the theoretical current (en power) production capacity. Yes Tigos can compensate for unevenness within one string up to...
Optimisers will never switch on bypass diodes as the optimisers get their energy from the panel. They cannot switch individual panel bypass diodes either as there are only two cables going to the panel. The minimum operating voltage of a Tigo unit I believe to be 18V, read that somewhere...
@HakanThn Have you read: https://www.mcelectrical.com.au/tigo-energy-solar-panel-optimisers/ ? Mark Cavanagh produced this before his cry for Tigo recall: https://www.mcelectrical.com.au/tigo-optimiser-recall/
If you have a Tigo monitoring system, they might be OK but you judge the story and...
It is frustrating when optimisers do not operate as advertised. I agree that many installers do not fully understand what they are selling. This is analogous to western "doctors in medicine" not fully understanding the basics of health limiting their efficacy as health profesionals.

By the way HakanThn, a quality modern inverter with global max power tracking like Fronius, utilising the by-pass diodes in the panels, can outperform operating optimisers under shaded conditions.
Hello Hakan Thn,
my thoughts: Yes you are correct this does not appear right. It fits exactly with my own and Mark Cavanagh's findings. What should happen is that the currents in the two strings are similar - in principle - all the time. If the optimisers would work, the current produced by the...
Tigo optimisers cannot capitalize on the bypass diodes since the voltage accross a bypass diode (0.7V) is far too low to drive electronic circuitry of a Tigo. Tigos are not capable of utilizing bypass diodes while they are being powered by the panel. Only an independent power supply for the...
Re: Strings of mismatched panel specs and/or parallel strings of differing lengths are the situation where Tigo optimizers add the most value…
Cannot follow your thoughts here. Tigos are supposed to optimise the string they are part of, they have no function accross different strings. Tigos are...
There appears to be a big difference between Tigos hooked up to the Tigo monitoring system and Tigos not hooked up to such a system. It is the latter that from at least 3 reports now do not operate like promised.
How do you know if your Tigos are working?
You likely will have 2 arrays, each with a string of panels. As the day starts, the voltage produced by the two strings quickly reaches maximum (Green and Red lines below). The current does not start to pick up till full sun hits the panels. If you have...
Not according to my experience from 6 units bought in June 2022. Tigo has been very slack and ad hock at their responses. Not that I have pushed it, in a way I accept having fallen for their tricks. I just want to see an end to their crook practices
