  • Post in thread: BMV 712 Low voltage disconnect relay

Alright I read through the manual and Im just as confused. In the manual and downloaded the app to use under demo. And you can program a relay for HV/LV and Hi/Lo Temp. But reading some other threads and watching videos makes it seem like its not capable of actually being a protective disconnect...
  • Post in thread: Mounting Solar Equipment Concerns?

Thanks for replies, After looking at it today Im just going to put them all vertically on the wall.
  • Post in thread: Valence XP Super Thread

I had a deal one one on ebay but missed out on it being not sure if it would work plug n play. It seems that some have not been able to get the bms to work with out re flashing it to the specific configuration it is being used on. Any other ones I have seen are extremely expensive.

So the Victron charger alone will not disconnect the battery in a high or low voltage situation? Or is it that it will do that but not for each individual cell only as the battery as a whole, which could result in them becoming un-balanced correct?
  • Post in thread: Valence XP Super Thread

Ok so I would be protected other than intra cell balancing with a good charge controller which will monitor mainly HV going into the battery and cut off solar charging if high also will monitor temperature. And a battery protect after battery for Low voltage that is for if I forgot to watch my...
  • Post in thread: BMV 712 Low voltage disconnect relay

Would I need to use like a 300-500 amp relay off the Positive side on battery going to everything? Or does the shunt actually do the disconnect but I need like a small relay to tell it when? I’ve been researching like crazy and can not find much on people hooking a relay to the bmv for Hi/Lo...
  • Post in thread: Am I getting the right amount of power out of my panels?

Alright That's what I figured but just wanted to make sure. Thanks!
  • Post in thread: BMV 712 Low voltage disconnect relay

The XP series Valence batteries actually have no protection internally, To avoid a $600 valence specific bms I was planning on using the BMV to use the relays for High and Low voltage disconnect protection and for temperature protection. All while also having a precise monitor to watch them.
  • Post in thread: Mounting Solar Equipment Concerns?

Building my first solar system in my sprinter van, just to guve you an idea its 2-200w panels—victron 100/50–1200w inverter—blue sea 12v box—victron bmv-712—2 lifepo4 batteries Sorry in advance if this has blatant answer but, Im trying to figure out the placement of everything in my “garage”...
  • Post in thread: Valence XP Super Thread

Thanks Travis you answered exactly what I needed to know. When balancing the 2 batteries together would I connect the 2 batteries together via communication cables and then one to my computer?
  • Post in thread: Low Voltage Cut Off Recommendations

I have already bought a Giandel Inverter and have a victron 100/50 SCC. I don’t believe the Giandel has a programable LV disconnect it says 10.5 V. And the SCC doesn’t have load terminals. It seems like with the components I have Im just going to have to stay on top of it and hope for the best...
  • Post in thread: High/Low Temperature Protection

Does anybody make a high and low temperature protection module? I would be using it on my 2 valence U27-12XP batteries.
  • Post in thread: Need Advice on what to get next

Im in the process of getting all the materials for my first system for my van. I’ve been watching Will’s videos for a couple months now and have a decent base knowledge on how everything works in a solar system. Im just dont know what configuration to do and which charge controller would be best...

My inverter is a 1200w continuous 2400w surge pure sine wave.
  • Post in thread: BMV 712 Low voltage disconnect relay

I have not heard of those products yet thank you for the links. Looking and reading the data sheets seems like the Cyrix would be what I would use. Looking at the Cyrix wiring diagram I would be replacing the bms with the victron BMV. Correct? Why would I not put the Cyrix straight off the...

  • Post in thread: Valence batteries in series - do you really need an external BMS?

Did you ever find an answer to your question?
  • Post in thread: Valence U27-12XP 12 volt 138Ah

Just bought 2 of these batteries and now starting to think I bit of too much to chew! Im trying to figure out how I can safely run these in my van. I bought the connectors to see them on my computer. A battery protect will take care of HV/LV put what do I do about being in High/Low temperatures?
  • Post in thread: Valence U27-12XP 12 volt 138Ah

That’s interesting on the temperature charging lithium because thats my main worry with using them in a travel van. Huh, did not realize that. What would be the purpose of that?
  • Post in thread: Valence U27-12XP 12 volt 138Ah

The epever mppt that Will recommends has the temperature sensor, but is it just for telling you on the monitor or does it actually adjust or disconnect if it gets to cold or hot?
  • Post in thread: Valence XP Super Thread

Kinda in the same boat, honestly wish I went with battle born, but I’ve got my system set up and running now. 400w solar/Victron MPPT/everything is fused and oversized wire/and BMV-712 monitor. Will probably never discharge these batteries past 50% and have the absorption at 14.2 max voltage so...
  • Post in thread: Mounting Solar Equipment Concerns?

Thanks I do understand heat dissipation and under the bed will probably be the coolest part of the van, but my main question is is there an issue with mounting them on the underside of the plywood of the bed essentially mounting them on a ceiling so their facing towards the floor.
  • Post in thread: Emergency: Charging Lifepo4 batteries with agm/leadacid charger

On my first trip in my Camper van and suddenly realizing that I there’s not enough sun to keep my batteries charged. I have two valence Lifepo4 batteries 400w solar. I’ve had the system set up for two years in Florida and have never drained past 50% so I never thought to put a external charger...
  • Post in thread: Valence XP Super Thread

Yea its just 400w solar van build and nothing crazy like electric water heater or induction stove tops. Biggest power draw will probably be my regular dorm fridge from inverter and a computer battery. Everything 12v wish I could do 24v but it seems like it complicates things using these batteries.
  • Post in thread: Low Voltage Cut Off Recommendations

2-Valence U27-12XP Lifepo4 Batteries they have no bms.

  • Post in thread: Off grid refrigeration

Could you suggest some of the ones you would recommend? Im just getting a system set up in my van. 400w solar and 276ah lithium. A fridge is the one thing Im really on the fence. Don’t want to have to spend $1k on a DC fridge if A $100-200 dorm fridge or freezer converted will do the trick. Thanks
  • Post in thread: Low Voltage Cut Off Recommendations

What would be the best solution for a complete low voltage disconnect for dc and ac loads? In my circumstance my dc loads will be extremely small and would be very rare to drain the batteries down, but the inverter will drain them down to 10 volts until it turns off.
  • Post in thread: BMV 712 Low voltage disconnect relay

Building up my first solar system. So far I have 2 valence u27-12xp batteries giandel 1200w inverter, 400w solar, and a 100/50 victron mppt. After watching Will’s video on the aili battery monitor being the same as Victron I added that to the list but doing some reading on the Victron BMV-712...
  • Post in thread: Emergency: Charging Lifepo4 batteries with agm/leadacid charger

I do not have a bms as a regular Lifepo4 battery has, I use my bmv 712 as the temp/LV/HV warning and I always monitor it. Then I have the valence software (acts as the bms) on my computer that once a month to balance and check the status. I know kinda an ordeal, in hindsight I would have...
