I've been working on getting some solar panels I salvaged off construction light trailers up in the air. It's not complete yet but I thought I'd post a pic. I got the pipe at a junkyard for $20 bucks. It looks like I'll get 9 hours off full sun watching it all day as I worked on it.
Hello all.
I’m in the Panhandle of Florida and after Hurricane Michael we had no power for 16 days. After that experience I decide to put together a little solar system to charge cellphone/tablets, laptops, battery banks as well as a way to have some light other than flashlights. I started off...
I watched that one several years back and it really gave insight into and much respect for this young man. He has gone far. I learned most of what I know about solar watching his videos. I am grateful that he is generous enough to share his knowledge via videos as well as this forum.
My two cents. I saw an ad on Craigslist for three solar lighting trailers for $200. I emailed him asking if it was $200 apiece or $200 for all. He responded $200 for all. They were in Ga. I'm in Fl. I'm thinking yea right, this has got to be a scam or he's gonna try to rob me. (Bad idea) they...
I was considering wood but the prices were higher than junkyard metal and I hope it will last me a bit longer. I'm very comfortable working with wood. However I saw a LOT of wood structures destroyed after the hurricane. My panels may rip from the mount, but the mount will survive :-)
Me defending my property and family behind a rifle is not doing the bidding of others nor does it make me cannon-fodder. You move from dumb@ss point to dumb@ss point. You have 1000s marching for miles to my location to take my solar. A disciplined mob with cannons lol. You are also full of...
Reading this thread reminds me of a youtube video I watched. These very kindhearted, well meaning people found a baby seal pup and raised it up. Bottle fed it or whatever. Anyhoo the time came to release the now grown seal back into the wild. They were all standing around clapping, TV crew...
Good evening guys, I finished my DIY ground mount. A couple of people were interested so I've posted the build to youtube for your review. I've learned so much from Will's videos and fabricating your own ground mount vids are a little slim on youtube, so I made one. Hopefully it might help...
Unfortunately, every area has some weather hazard. I rode out the direct hit that was Hurricane Michael. That was the event that got me building. I console myself with the fact that at least with a hurricane, I have warning. I could take my panels down if I had to. I'm currently finishing up a...
I was initially going to build it with wood but prices got pretty high and I finally scavenged some metal after all the drill stem pipe vanished. My initial design had to be modified after I got it installed. It had a little too much wobble for my taste. This mount is for the 12-100 watt panels...
My stuff is all scrounged. I'm a cheap bastry and I get a sense of satisfaction using materials others have discarded and consider junk. (I'm an odd duck) Everything I build is from what's available (for cheap) to me at the time. Mostly junkyards and the random old C-Band installs (These are 3...
Since this is the beginner’s corner I’ll post a pic of my first setup. This is the only pic I can find right now. This was taken in Dec 1999 before the Y2K scare. Anybody remember that LOL? That and being a ham radio operator got me interested enough in solar to actually put something together...
Corporations sole purpose is to make profit for their shareholders. That is capitalism. Like nature it is not fair. It is also far from perfect. It is, however, the best system we have now. The other ones eventually run out of other people's money.
I've made several out of old satellite dish mounts. Here's one I made from an old C-Band dish. You can likely find someone that will let you haul it away if you dig up the pole and then you have the pole as well.. This one has three Renogy 100W panels on it. For a panel your size a Primestar...
Well since you are asking for advice, I'll mention the one Renogy product that is TERRIBLE! Your monitoring software. I have your BT-1 module and the Renogy BT app is laughable. Perhaps some others here can add their opinion about your apps. I'm currently planning and stacking parts for my next...
I think you will be successful and go far in life. You would not have learned the skills in a dorm room that you did building that. And the way the used car market is going, you may be able to double your money when you sell. And you have it if the world or grid goes crazy.
