I bought my 1700w Hyundai generator off of ebay and you get little or no tech. data there. I just assumed that it would be able to handle the same load as any 15amp house circuit. But no, it turns out to be running at 100% when it's only supplying 14.2amps! And it sure did seem to be getting...

Thank-you for the link, I bought a 4 Stud bus bar with a cover from Amazon.
  • Post in thread: Deep cycle cranking

I've got two of SOK's 206 amp/hr 12v batteries in parallel. And my motorhome is an old Dodge with a huge 440 cubic inch V8. So it sounds like I will be a big loser if I try this.
  • Post in thread: EG4 Charger Question

OK, right, I understand that fuel consumption is not only about run time. So when you say that I will burn less fuel at a lower power setting I guess you mean that I will burn less fuel when I am using a battery charger that is putting out a lower amperage. Yeah, if there's any way I can do it...
  • Post in thread: Non Solar Charging

I have two SOK 12volt 206amp/hr batteries in parallel and I want to charge them up as quickly as possible. I have been charging them with a Progressive Dynamics 60amp charger but I have found that even with only a 75watt drain they need to be recharged for at least 4 hours a day which is...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Charger Question

I have two 206amp/hr SOK batteries in parallel that are at 100% at 14.4v. I just tried charging them with my 12V 15A EG4 charger but it would only charge them up to 13.31v. So I checked the output voltage during charging and it was only 13.39v at the terminals and 13.48v on the clamps. Does...
  • Post in thread: How do I connect my battery charger.

I have just received a 60amp battery charger that I want to use to charge my two parallel 12v SOK batteries. The wiring diagram for the charger shows that I must ground the charger to the vehicle frame and then ground one of the two negative terminals on the back of the charger and also ground...
  • Post in thread: Battery voltage check

Can someone please recommend a good battery voltage monitor so that I don't have to keep unpacking and fiddling with my volt/ohm meter to check the battery voltage level. I have seen battery voltage meters on ebay that say they can tell you what percentage your battery is charged up to. But how...
  • Post in thread: Inadequate Generator?

OK, Power = Current X Voltage, great. And if the Voltage is higher then the Current will be lower, right on. In the tech specs of my generator manual it says that the Rated Output Power is 1700 watts. I thought that all batteries come in 12 volts and if you want more voltage you connect them in...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Charger Question

Hi Super Eggo; Thanks for the fantastic information. You are really helping me to win the battle for independence. 412Ah/15A = 27.5hrs. I didn't know the formula. Actually, I removed the original AC to DC converter that was in my motorhome because it was taking up so much room in the battery...
  • Post in thread: Battery Charger Question

Hi guys; I have a $50.00 battery charger that I got from a local hardware store for charging my 12v car battery. It's called an "intelligent" battery charger. It has a digital monitor that can be switched from showing a display of current input to voltage input to immediate battery...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Charger Question

I should be able to charge and discharge to approximate levels by just charging for a limited period, like one hour and then turning off the charger and checking the battery voltage so that I'm not charging them up to 100% every time in order to increase their lifespan. And I could get the...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Charger Question

I see now that Powermaxx does not make a 50amp charger, just a 55amp one. So I would need to either charge them one at a time with the Powermaxx 45amp charger or charge them both with the Powermaxx 80amp charger, what do you think?
  • Post in thread: Have I wasted a bunch of money on the wrong generator?

OK, that's something I didn't know about. The self consumption of changing AC to DC. Also, I had forgotten that the charger is going to be taking 100amps at 14.4v which is 1440w. So if the self consumption is 160w or more then I am over the 1600w limit.
  • Post in thread: Inadequate Generator?

I was told that my 1700w generator was sufficient, now I am told that it's not sufficient. Can I get a definite answer on this?
  • Post in thread: Need help preparing for winter

I am very glad to know that my LiFePO4 batteries won't be getting damaged due to the low temp disconnect to prevent charging in a freezing environment. But does that mean that I must definitely and absolutely avoid discharging them in a freezing environment as well or is it OK to do that? Also...
  • Post in thread: Overcharging Question

I've got two SOK batteries that are being charged by four 100w Renogy solar panels. It's a very clear, hot day outside right now and the MPPT says that four panels have been pumping in 15 or 16 amps of electricity whenever I have checked this morning. I am working outside and I am not using...
  • Post in thread: Battery Charger Question

Actually, with Shipping and Tax the 12v206amp/hr SOK cost me just over $1300U.S. So I know that I shouldn't think twice about getting a good battery charger. And yes, the "reconditioning" function is probably desulphation with a voltage pulse but that shouldn't ever engage with the LiFePO4...
  • Post in thread: Panels to MPPT

I have purchased everything on the parts list for the 12v 1kw Solar system. The problem is that No. 5 says "Solar Panel Array to MPPT wires" But after buying the recommended two 40ft lengths of Windy Nation 8AWG wire to connect my solar panels to the MPPT, I see that it is not possible to...
  • Post in thread: Battery Charger Question

I just press a button and it displays the charging voltage which was 14.8 volts that last time I looked. I don't know what the charge profile is. Press the button again and it tells me how much current is going in with a different button to vary the charge rate. I don't like the idea of it...
  • Post in thread: Have I wasted a bunch of money on the wrong generator?

There is no option whatsoever for a person to select a different charging amperage. The Powermax chargers are set to do 3 stage charging. They start off in "Boost" mode which is a 14.3v output even though my SOK batteries are 14.4v = 100%. Then after about 28 minutes, I suddenly hear the rpm on...
  • Post in thread: Overcharging Question

It is a 1Kw MPPSolar 1012LV and it charges my batteries when it is turned off if there are any solar cells are connected. I must turn it on in order to use the 1Kw inverter.

  • Post in thread: EG4 Charger Question

Checking the voltage on the charger clamps I get 14.58 volts, so I guess the charger is OK. And now I've got an email from the dealer where I bought the batteries and she says that since I've got two 206amp/hr batteries in parallel then my 12v 15A EG4 will take over 27 hours to charge my two...
  • Post in thread: Need help preparing for winter

Big Thank-you to Filter Guy for the interesting options and bottom temperature fact about discharging LiFePO4's in a Canadian winter.
  • Post in thread: Overcharging Question

That's a great idea, setting the float to 3.3V/cell which would prevent storage at full power damage. I better look at my MPPT manual to find out how to do that.
  • Post in thread: Have I wasted a bunch of money on the wrong generator?

Actually, it's worth a lot to take that into consideration. Because I am habitually expecting a generator that has a stated running voltage output of 3000 watts, to have no problem delivering a constant and efficient 3000 watts. But no, like you say, generators can never handle anywhere near...
  • Post in thread: Have I wasted a bunch of money on the wrong generator?

Because the two SOK 206amp/hr 12v batteries in parallel can handle a 100amp charge so using a 100amp charger would minimize charging time and therefore fuel consumption.
  • Post in thread: Temperature Sensors

I just bought a couple of SOK batteries that are 206amp/hrs each. I am planning to re-charge them with 75amp and 15amp chargers hooked together. I have heard of batteries exploding sometimes so they must have overheated while being re-charged or overcharged. I really want to avoid this...
  • Post in thread: Charging without Solar

I have some solar panels and an LV-1012 MPPT. But for the extended weeks of cloud and overcast in the god-awful Canadian winter in my motorhome, I have ordered a K-Tor Power Box 50 so that I can generate some body heat while recharging my batteries with pedal power. I am told that the Power Box...
