There were two heavy cardboard boxes by the garage door when I got home. Inside were 8, 302ah Basen cells weighing 5.4kg each. Volts was 3.23 out of the box. The diysolar code got me double bus bars. A carpenters square showed the cells weren't bulging. My Phone won't read the QR codes maybe...
here's a 1 minute video of the batteries accelerating the boat to full speed and an emergency stop.
It's a sailboat but the mast wasn't on for this test.
The motor will pull over 100A at 24V when applying full throttle from a stand still.
I cruse at 35A which is 4kts.
The boat had no motor...
I bought a Aquamot 2.2 Fixed Pod motor with folding prop for $3k Euros. It included the motor & controller, throttle, battery gauge and cables. Aquamot provides a custom wedge so the motor is level when bolted to the hull. I'm very happy with the motor, it's powerful and quiet. However at this...
I balanced, charged and load tested with an old hair dryer on Low. JBD BMSs showed ~ 440w and 30-34amps. Batteries ran for exactly 9hrs before the first cell hit 2.5v and shut down. Both BMSs show a Delta of 0.001 at 88%. I installed the batteries in the boat and tested. Top speed was 5.8kts at...
Thanks Ken, it's been a challenge. In order for the prop to be protected by the keel, it has to be closer to the surface of the water than is idea. The result is the cavitation you saw. However it only happens when applying full throttle in reverse for an emergency stop or WOT fwd from...
Hi, I’m so happy I found this forum. I didn’t know how much I didn’t know.
I plan on powering a small boat with a 35A / 24v fixed pod motor using 8, 280ah LifePO4s.
The cells have to be in 2 seperate packs (4s 12v)
Should I put a 4s BMS in each pack or use one 8s BMS which will require...
Well, I'm all in, just ordered:
8pcs Grade A+Brand New CATL 3.2V 300Ah 302Ah 310Ah Lifepo4 Battery 24V Solar Cell Battery for solar system
from Vicky Peng at Basen.
$1,676.25 AUD including shipping and $48 PayPal fee. Now the wait begans and the ordering of BMS and boxes.
Thanks for all the...
I only charge till Starb #2 hits max so the other cells can get more charge.
ok, stopping at 3.5 would prevent me from getting concerned about the growing difference in cell Vs that happens after 3.5v
Thanks, I have 2, doing the same thing but to different degrees. Both read 100% after charging but soon after applying a 70A load, they dropped to 39 and 13%. I've had the batteries a year and the BMSs have not had an issue till now.
Here's the link (Alibaba). It comes standard charging to 29.2V but I asked for 28V.
It starts at 13A then after a few minutes goes to 40A and stays till about 90% then drops back down to 13V.
I wish I'd ordered it with CANBUS so I could customize it.
what's wrong with this picture?
Suddenly both my JBD BMSs started giving faulty ah% readings.
I checked the config on both.
Any ideas on what to check?
Thanks, Mack
I see 90% of battery charge on the BMSs about the time it drops from 40 to 13V. But I really don't know.
This is my first build.
If I knew then what I know now......
I'm delighted with my CATL cells from Vicky Peng at Basen. I've power cycled them a few times and they actually are 300Ahs. Using 2 inverters, an old hair dryer and a heatgun, I tested at 90A for 1.5 hours with no hot terminals in my set up (after I tightened a loose fitting).
The cells are...
Thanks Mr. S. I was and still am scared silly of those caged electrons constantly looking for a way out. (don't drop the wrench!).
I go slow.
I learned about magic smoke from 18650s.
I was away and returned to see this;
I switched balance to work when not charging.
I'll balance for a few days till the high cells come down and start charging again.
yes but at 13.34V?
Yesterday I took the batteries down till one cell got to 2.65. Then I put about 280A (24v) back in. Later I pulled 70A for an hour. This is the state of the pic.
Thanks BB, I'll change the Cell Full voltage.
I checked the BMSs and the starb. BMS (the one in the first pic showing 13%) is now showing 91%. I haven't even touched the old iphones I use to monitor or charged or dis charged. (!)
