A common limitation with all charge controller and AIO systems

My latest pack has a parallel supercapacitor, eliminates voltage drop under load.

Charging LiFePo4 batteries below freezing experiment

There is a lot of testing going on in this area. As only low current charging takes place, and to determine degradation you need a control cell at normal temperature being charged at the same rate - none of the tests started in 2007 have been concluded yet. There have also been vast...

Charging LiFePo4 batteries below freezing experiment

Just because you can’t charge a frozen cell at high C rates without reaching your high voltage setpoint - doesn’t mean you are doing any damage to that cell.

A common limitation with all charge controller and AIO systems

My SMA system charges according to my BMS instructions. I’m sure there are plenty of others. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

At what price does LFP storage make it possible to go off-grid?

Everyone has a different perspective. It would have cost over $250,000AUD to get mains power connected to my house. Not a difficult decision to make.

Can You Wire Circuit Breakers in Reverse?

SMA have very good documentation and circuit diagrams, you won’t go wrong if you exactly follow their instructions.

I'm charging my Li yard lights below freezing!

Yes, for sure the IR limits charge acceptance. The higher quality the cell, the higher charge rate. Many people wrongly assume that all LiFePO4 cells share the same chemistry.

I'm charging my Li yard lights below freezing!

There is no debate about LiFePO4 being able to charge and discharge well below freezing. There are a few morons on the internet that think they know what they are talking about - and many more that parrot their misinformation. Good LiFePO4 cells can be charged well below freezing, as per the...

I'm charging my Li yard lights below freezing!

I’ve attached the specs for the BYD Blade LiFePO4. Note the working temperatures. Any decent LiFePO4 will be able to operate in frozen conditions - some cheap crappy ones may not.

I'm charging my Li yard lights below freezing!

Many LiFePO4 cells can be safely charged below freezing. It’s an internet myth that they can’t.

    Best practice DIY battery installation

In Australia/New Zealand, there is a standard AS5139 that governs energy storage systems for household use. It covers most situations quite thoroughly.

Can You Wire Circuit Breakers in Reverse?

If you have wiring capable of carrying more current than the inverter can produce, what will a breaker achieve? You are parroting information you have been told without any understanding of what you are saying. Much the same applies to single panel PV applications, if you use 15a wiring on an...

Can You Wire Circuit Breakers in Reverse?

The breaker is mainly to give a method to AC isolate the device. There is really no need for a breaker on an inverter if the wiring supports more current than the inverter can supply.
