I just spent the last hour trying to find the answer I'm looking for online.
One site (name not used) had links in their articles that kept taking me to odd ball subjects - not related to solar and they never really finished answering their different points of view on any given section of...
Update on Sun movement during winter. It's almost 1pm and for the last hour or more, area #2 (shown in post #32) is in full shade from the large tree with the red lines behind it. Those red lines are me showing where and how far I saw a shadow from that tree at 8:30 in the morning. (You can...
YES - If one plans for it and you mount the panel at an angle, like a wind deflector. GRIN (That way I would get something from it vs nothing; when the sun is behind me and reflecting off the roof.) Every little bit helps.
Well the nice thing I've seen and read about the Sol Ark 15K is the fact that we will be able to do it all and anyone who might buy our place years a from now has options to fit their needs.
What I'm trying to wrap my head around now is the fact that the inverter is not going to be near the...
I may use some components of a company's racking system. However, I'm mounting it on the top side edge of a shipping container, as a tilt system. So I have to make it all work for my setup and needs.
We currently have the Well Pump, Dryer, and possibly the Electric Hot Water Heater that are all 240v... Our future plans are to switch out the Electric Hot water heater for a heat pump model. (I'm not sure but I think they run on 110 vs 240v - But I can't seem to get one here. I looked last...
Thank you Bobert.
Am I wrong in thinking that the peak usage, per day, month and year, would be found on the our Hydro bill for the last year or two?
BTW - Our Hydro bills also break down usage for peak and off-peak times as well.
Very interesting. I'll be keeping up with this thread.
I don't want to hijack this thread in any way!
I hope my question(s) and idea could help others interested in this DC to DC MPPT and how I would like to use.
IF this unit can do it - I have 2 alternators on my Rig and don't plan to have...
Steve,
Thank you for taking the time to share all this with us. I'll need to keep revisiting this. I get overloaded and somewhat confused.
I wanted to let you know as of 4-24-2022 the following link on your first post is no longer valid.
250A...
I had to clear the snow this morning, so while I was out there I measured where the container will likely be.
It will be no less than 175 feet and no more than 200 feet of wire from the Sol-Ark 15k inside the container to the house meter and panel.
( Silly me - At first I was only measuring...
I want to start digging and burying conduit this summer, once I have all the underground items all worked out.
I was told that 2.5" conduit should work fine for 1/0 - 2/0 wire.
I plan to fully insulate the solar equipment room. (Lord willing - I also plan to make YouTube videos of the progress.)
FYI - This is NOT where the container will be. TOO MUCH SHADE...
I like the freezer / cooler idea. However, I'm not sure if the batteries need to vent or not. (I'll have to...
I recall, Will talking about sticking with 400W of panels so you don't have to up size the wiring and you can use some kind of connectors. (Sorry forgot what they were called.)
Thanks. Those were some of the videos I recently watched. It was their video that gave me a much simpler way of pivoting the array VS my way of using Pillow Block Bearings. I had already planned for a much higher array off the ground, as we can get a ton of snow. He confirmed my thinking and...
Who here has used the Drill-Free roof mounts?
I'm curious, which style did you have between the 2 shown below? (It can be in black or white)
If you had what I refer to as the "Bad Style" - Did you have any issues drilling and securing your panel?
Before I knew there was a difference:
I...
My concerns are more in line with hooking up an All-in-one system - so far away from the main panel in the house - to still be able to allow it to do everything it was designed for.
Having to run wires - Will I have to up size the wires and so forth.
The reasons for the Container and having...
FYI - Whatever setup I go with - it will be (hopefully) centrally located between our house and future garage build. All the solar equipment will be housed in a shipping container that we purchased 2 years ago and the array will be adjustable.
This means I'll have to run "Whatever size wiring"...
Thanks guys. With our long winters, a good number of overcast days throughout the year and the fact that I'm only going to be able to have 12 maybe 16 panels = is all why I'm leaning towards the Bifacial panels 440W if not more per panel. WHY only 12-16 panels? I'm installing them on an...
Thanks.
I have since found a post on here that Will P did about this.
Now I have to look into a way to control the charger and shut it down at let's say 40f and automatically kick it back on once the temp is above 45 or so. That way should my heat go out it will shut the charger down to...
My preference is to go with the LifePO4. As for the Ecoflow Delta Pro, it would be a nice unit for the house setup. However, it is too big and heavy to be taking in and out of the sleeper box.
That is what I had in mind. We already have the 20' container that I plan to use. I want 12 panels on my array. However, I was making my setup way more complicated than it needed to be. After seeing their setup I'm leaning towards using larger pipe to allow the array to pivot vs the Pillow Block...
I might not be able to go full off-grid and only use it as a supplement power.
Knowing the MRS wants certain heavy load items and now seeing our usage shown above.
But this is where figuring our what we'll need is well over my head. Grin
(Back to lunch and working on the farm.)
