  • Post in thread: Plastic vs Aluminum case cells

I asked this questions to a BLS seller in Aliexpress. Although he wanted to sell me aluminium case cells he recommended plastic case cells for RV application in case the additional weight and volume is acceptable. The plastic cells were rated less sensitive for heat abuse and vibration.

Hi, I work as development engineer in automotive engineering and want to share/discuss DIY Lifepo4 experience for RV application.
  • Post in thread: Relay to disconnect large inverter (Will's latest video)

There are two main reasons a relay can fail in service: 1.) The contacts do overheat due to high current out of the relay spec limits, 2.) The relay switches high inductive current which may result to contact arcs while switching with results to contact surface damage. If the usage application...
  • Post in thread: Smart BMS 4S 12V 150A LiFeP04 with temp. sensors

Consider the following solution: 1. Grind a slot hole in the decklid. 2. Use a copper bar, square dim. (20x5)mm and S- bend the bar. 3. Prepare the bar for the brass studs and drill sunk holes into the bar for upper and lower stud connection. 4. Flame solder brass studs at one end of the bar. 5...

  • Post in thread: Finally found a LiFePO4 BMS with Low-temp Charging Protection

12 V two coil latching relays are available on the market between 100 - 200 Amp used on Lifep04 BMS application ifor RV's in Europe. I've seen application where two relays were connected in parallel to double the current draw. Installation works reliable. The issue is to find a BMS that sends a...
  • Post in thread: Finally found a LiFePO4 BMS with Low-temp Charging Protection

This is one BMS with triggers a 200ms negative signal or OVP/UVP for the charging and discharging loop. https://www.litrade.de/shop/BMS,Balancer/BMS,Systeme/Litrade/Balancer,Equalizer,Protect,V3,2,4,8,Zellen,12V,24V,3,5A.html I talked to the shop owner, located in Germany, the owner is an...
  • Post in thread: Will blasts Chargery

There are a lot of application in the DIY LiFePo4 scene for RV's which uses SSR and they work out reliable. However, 100Amp seems to be max, as far as I know. https://www.faktor.de/relais-ssr-schuetz/solid-state-relay-ssr/ High current relays get used with two coils to split inrush- and...
  • Post in thread: LiFepo4 top balancing equipment recommendations

@ filter guy Thx for providing the links. I was after the top parallel balancing video Will pubished a while ago, however, my initial request was misleading on this -sorry for that- Meanwhile, I fully read and digested the entire parallel balancing thread and believe that I'm up to date on...
  • Post in thread: Will blasts Chargery

From Will's part 2 Chargery video session my take out is as follows: Based on the measurements Will has taken the relay solenoid drains 740mA's permanently. This explains the noticed heat disipation. This indicates that the relay solenoid has only a pull-in current coil (in-rush), the amount of...
  • Post in thread: Can a Victron battery protect be used on the charge side of things or is it only for disconnecting loads?

I had the same worry and a technical fellow told me that Victron battery protect is not backwards compatible. Reverse current, charging, can result in thermal issues. Waldemar

  • Post in thread: looking for BMS brands/references in Europe

Hi Silos, battery shown in the Image have single BMS"s for one cell with OVP/UVP protection, wired in series as a Daisy chain circuit. To switch load either MOSFET's or latching relays are required. LFP Ytrium battery (Winston) have a better acceptance for low temp charging...
  • Post in thread: Latching relays and drivers

The Shop you mentioned is from Czech Republik. They ship to US. Alternativley check this BMS, it switches latching relays directly. You can use two relays in parallel to increase the amperage. 200 AMP latching relays are available in the Market.
  • Post in thread: CALB cells have arrived!

Hej, I'll do the same battery set up with the smart bluetooth BMS for my RV, however, I ordered 200AH CALB cells from shop BLS Alibaba. Not arrived, yet. Have you bottom balanced the cells before assembly or did you do without it due a good balance voltage records? Further information on your...
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 heating pad for cold temperatures

I'd understand that the targets should be to heat up the air inside the batt' box above freezing which would affect the object temperature of the battery cells. In this case it wouldn't matter what the object heat of the heater pad is, correct? The heater control system would shut off the pads...
  • Post in thread: Buss-bar Sizing

The battery cells are connected in series, thus the current doesn't change and remains at 280amps for 1C load , the cuircuit voltage adds up and multiplies x4 per cell.

  • Post in thread: Initial balancing of CALB SE200FI 3,2V200AH, cell drift

I drained the affected cell from 3,51 volts to 3,35 volts, diff. 150mV, in a controlled way and burned only 1,5 AH off. I expected more energie to get burned. I've no experience to determine weather this is surface charge only and in an expected range. This brought all cells to the same voltage...

  • Post in thread: LiFePo4 battery design preference for RV application

Basically I see two different designs on the market. LFP with aluminium case and LFP with nylon case. Alu case design batt's are lighter and smaller in package compared to the nylon case batt's from CALB and Sinopoly. I'm interested to view on the pro's and cont's for RV application!
  • Post in thread: 12v 190ah lifepo4 from aliexpress

My point of view is that 100AH and 200AH cells units is the nominal spec. capacity. Capacity rates lower than nominal are cycled cells and not grade A anymore. This explains the big difference in price versus nominal. Chinese sellers won't tell you in chat communication up front about this. You...

  • Post in thread: Initial balancing of CALB SE200FI 3,2V200AH, cell drift

Hello, I'm building a 4S battery pack with CALB cells and a smart JBD 4S BMS board. I received the cells as grade A ( new), all showed the same voltage level of about 3,2 Volts. I'm currently in a working stage to lab' test the components and functions, battery and BMS. To condition the cells I...
