  • Post in thread: Riden 6006 bench power hack

This is my set up for top balancing my battery pack. It is a Riden 6006 power supply Being driven by the battery charger that I will use for the whole system that is putting out 14.4 volts. The Riden is set to 3.65V and max 6 amps. The cells are 8x Fortune 60Ah cells starting at 3.3V...
  • Post in thread: Useful nugget on top balancing...

Thanks to @Steve_S for this! Excerpted from another thread. "I am no expert, just a critical observer. There is far too much over concern about LFP cells sitting at "FULL" SOC. 3.65V and lower will NOT hurt the cells and over time they will self-discharge albeit quite slowly. The cells never...
  • Post in thread: Weed Batteries - whuts up wit dat?

Cooking hemp fiber to make pseudo-graphene. Then they use that stuff to make capacitors. A cheaper graphene is cool. Not sure there's magic here though
  • Post in thread: Purpose of starter wire in a DC to DC controller

The Renogy dc2dc is built for vehicle charging the house battery. Ignition signal means it won't steal from the starter to feed the house, it will only charge when the alternator is running. I don't know if you want to use it in place of a solar charge controller and it might be weird or bad...
  • Post in thread: Purpose of starter wire in a DC to DC controller

Ok, i read the link. Dual dc input is kinda sweet. So then yes the ignition wire prevents stealing from the starter and the solar probably works any time. That unit is probably smart enough to use solar first and fill in from the alternator if say your max charging amps is like 50 and its...
  • Post in thread: Does plug color matter for Anderson 175 connectors?

Looks like plugs of the same color work together and different colors do not. Sounds like color coding in SB is about you knowing what you want to use them for and color code wire ends for like trailer brakes vs. battery charging for the house battery of the trailer.
  • Post in thread: Purpose of starter wire in a DC to DC controller

Look at the forums for battery warmer stuff. If it's cold then keeping above 32f is better for either type of battery. That said the post above about your charger or battery being a problem sounds right.
  • Post in thread: How to power a cpap

Mine is 24V. Looks like there are 12-24 step up cigarette lighter power bricks to be had so I am thinking 12V cig lighter socket which is maybe generally useful for runnign air pumps etc. 100% agree that different plugs for different voltages is generallys a Good Thing (tm).
  • Post in thread: How to power a cpap

My CPAP also has an "airplane mode" setting because it has cell or wifi or somethign I never use. When on battery I drop the heat to zero and put on airplane mode and that helped a LOT in not killign the battery. CPAP is also why I''m building my own ammo can battery boxes. Now I'm thinking...
  • Post in thread: Fuse or circuit breaker?

I came to this same conclusion because fuses can fail much faster than the response curve I see on the breaker. In my case I plan a 300a fuse on the battery post and then a 200a breaker on 1/0 wiring.
  • Post in thread: MPP Solar LV2424 -- 50/60 cycle problems?

I suspect the reviewer who had the problem got the international rather than US model.
  • Post in thread: Looking for expert advice on setting up a system in Malawi Africa for a charity my wife and I run.

So it's cheaper to buy your batteries here and the ship them than buy there? Seems like an all in one like the MPP solar unit would be far simpler overall and probably similar in cost to building up a combo of charge controller and inverter? Ebay has MPP Solar units probably about the right...
  • Post in thread: Newbies needing help

At a guess you have connection problems between the battery and inverter that are causing extra voltage drop so the inverter is not seeing the full battery voltage. Have you rechecked your connections for problems?
  • Post in thread: Hopelessly Lost

Watch his video. It doesn't use your battery, it only charges when the engine is running. Yes you need a different battery than your vehicle battery. They talk about the "house battery" vs. the "starter battery" in some stuff and the house battery is for your fridge and such, the starter is...
  • Post in thread: Ammo box "handtruck" system

24V you see half the heat loss, but in this size system maybe it just doesn't matter. Running at about 50A fo 1Kw instead of 100A does seem better though, but maybe it's just all about running the right wire and not fussing. Yeah the ammo cans in decent shape at the local surplus store were...
  • Post in thread: Hopelessly Lost

Watch this one, I think it will help you.
  • Post in thread: Hopelessly Lost

Wiring in series you add up the voltages, parallel you add amperage. Just like batteries. Say you have the panel linked below which is 100W, if you lok down the page it says 18 volts and 5.55 amps for it's "power voltage" (instead of open). 2 of those in series give you 18 + 18 = 36 volts...
  • Post in thread: First impressions -- Fortune 60AH from http://energetechsolar.com/

Just got my batteries from Energetech. 16 Fortune 60Ah cells for 2 packs of 2p4s 12v emergency pwer project. First impressions. Packaging is excellent. All arrived intact and no dings on the box. Shipping was fast. Customer services and communications was really good. Each cell...

Look for the LG Chem Factory Defect thread from February. Might be related.
  • Post in thread: Gas generator to backup solar

Requires some rewiring but I don't know more than the concept there. I think your load panel goes downstream of the TS and then the inverter and genny are the two inputs but what that looks like in panels and breakers etc I dunno.
  • Post in thread: Riden 6006 bench power hack

Ok, this is taking a LONG time. DIY savings in cash sure, but this is showing me why commercial packs are spending. If I was on a schedule I would need a lot more or better gear.
  • Post in thread: Jumping ahead of myself !?!

100w at 12v is 8 or so amps so 2s is still 8+ amps x5 strings parallel is 40-45 amps. Fuses protect the wire right? So what wire are you using ant what's its amp rating? 125% of that ballpark is the fuse you need if I remember this right.
  • Post in thread: Best practice for connecting BMS sense leads?

I worried about that too an put a short filler piece of 16ga to fill the ferrule with the balance wire. Crimps came out nice.
  • Post in thread: Confused on what BMS to buy.

If you have 2 packs in parallel and one goes offline you might not want the remaining pack to take double the load? You may want to know and reduce your overall load when you have a failure.
  • Post in thread: Looking for expert advice on setting up a system in Malawi Africa for a charity my wife and I run.

There's various size options. The ease of the all-in-one solution is probably a win. Then also these can be wired to the grid if you do get utility power and it will use the utility when it's on and batteries if the power is out.
  • Post in thread: Building Battery Box for my 24v, 200ah Lifepo4 Battery Bank

There is spray on wood/lumber fireproofing that might be useful for the plywood in/around the battery box. Stuff like the link below. There's probably smaller containers available. MIght be worth considering for this as another layer of defense...

Just bought the Temco crimper linked by Will and it doesn't go al the way down to #8. Blocked at #9 size by the shoulders of the pin. We'll see if it has to be adjusted with a grinder to work on 8 Guage. Bummer.
