I have a 3000w Renigy inverter charger that I am trying to hardwire to my electrical panel in RV. Do I need a transfer switch?

the 3000w renogy comes with an in built auto changeover - but i think thats what you mean?
they way mine works, if you are off grid then the renogy provides power to the socket outlets. i have wired these so that they feed the essential circuits that i want to work when off grid..

when on grid, the renogy senses the mains power and allows it to 'pass through' to also feed the essential circuits. if for any reason the mains power is lost, after a few seconds the renogy will then switch being battery powered.

i think there are a couple of you tube videos that might explain it better.

in short, its fit and forget in my motorhome (RV), though i did also fit a surge protection device at the same time as we find that power supplies around europe can be a tad temperamental at times when we are touring ....

when we are off grid, i do turn the inverter off when its not being used to save battery power.

Ok thank you for that info I also need to hard wire my inverter/ charger into my main panel in RV can I use 12/ 2 Romax house wire

Just use the wire that is going to the main panel. I just cut the shore power 6/3 romex (I have a 50A RV) that was inside the RV. Was long enough to go to my inverter. Just connected the incoming shore power 6/3 to the inverter input and the 6/3 going to the main panel to the inverter output. Easy peasy.
