Advice needed regarding crimping large Anderson SB175 connectors

I found and purchased this extensive set of dies from Temco. There's a + size in addition to the standard size dies and a huge variety of sizes.

Thanks for the link. I just measued the dies I have and the Temco set isn't compatible. Looks like I'll have to purchase the Temco crimper and die set. I wonder if local electrical supply companies might rent them.

I generally use windy nation welding wire. The other stuff I have used that is good is Shirbly brand.

Do yourself a favor and get a wire size guage. There will be some deviation depending on wire type, i.e. fine stranded welding wire is bigger than course THHN. They will be close though.

I have read good things about https://www.batterycablesusa.com/

The silver white you are seeing on the real anderson pins is silver oxide. The real deal has a thick coating of pure silver plating.
OK. Thanks again for the confirmation about the quality of the cable I'm using.

Well, I have to say, I have one of the 45 dollar 16 ton crimpers and these Temco dies fit my crimper just fine.

Thanks for your input.

I see that Temco sells individual die pairs for under $20. That may be the path I should take to see if they fit/work in my crimper before spending between $90 to $150 on something that I'll have very limited use for. Some of the dies I already have may work well enough given a bit more practice on my part.

Can I ask why you replaced your OEM crimper dies with the Temco set? Did they somehow fail or were they also under- or oversized for AWG lugs?

Those Anderson lugs have more metal than most other lugs. Yes use a larger die to start and don't go 100% at the initial smash. Start with just tight enough to grip the wire then rotate 120 degrees and go a bit harder. two or three grips should be enough to get a good crimp without the wings.

The OEM's are metric and was getting a lot of wings.
