EG4 Mini-split kinked one of the copper line sets

Probably so. In defense of Jared or whomever sent those lines, the spec sheet incorrectly shows 1/4 and 3/8 - but obviously the flared non DIY style would never have been correct - maybe they were assuming OP would modify them.

In any case, I can help EG4 out here. ALL of your units - 12 and 24K Hybrid, non hybrid 9 and 12k use the same 5M 1/4 and 1/2 DIY (probably non optimal then) lineset (! :) ).

I love the infamous "half year" models.
Always the biggest headache working in the auto industry. And the increasing *Classic* models where they continue selling the OLD body style vehicles along side the NEW body style vehicles. Chevy made things way more difficult than they needed to so they could sell over produced vehicles as current year.

Often wondered why the seller(s) could not make a custom length, or at least a few choices of linesets, ie. 10. 12, 14, 16 ft

This would avoid that "junk coiled up".

Then the pre-charge might need to be different for each set. However, not sure how much of a difference a few feet actually makes on a mini-split.

Funny enough i actually ordered the model you are listing above for my friend/employee and it comes today, curious to see what the actual line sets are on that one.

Thats what i'm thinking, and i'm wondering when i repair the line if i cut off 12 inches or less i guess, of the copper, ill probably make a few mistakes, how much that will affect the precharge, but i'm sure there is some calculations i can do
 
Okay everyone was able to order quite a bit of equipment, i went with the mid range brand i believe, Elitech. Have a two stage vacuum pump, manifold, hoses, vacuum pressure gauge, all kinds of really cool stuff, so hopefully time permitting i can get this done this week or during the holiday weekend. :) Pretty excited, I'm glad we already have a whole house heat pump, so this dedicated one I'm putting in the garage/shop isn't a huge need. I could just imagine me telling the wife, next week for sure babe, then 4 weeks later..

I have a number of a local HVAC guy that some good friends would be good to hit up, i might start the conversation with him today, but still want to DIY.

Maybe the next few models i buy for family, won't be like this but ones i actually have to charge my self etc.

One other thing you might need is a line adapter for you to hook up your vacuum pump.
American systems use a 1/4 inch service connector and these mini splits mostly ship with a 5/16 inch service port.
You can get the adapter from Pioneerminisplit.com for about $20.00.

Because they are sourcing from China as a kit, minimum customization and slap on your logo. You could probably find the exact equipment with no logo for a fraction of the price.

I ran into this problem on an uncharged line. I cut out the kink and reattached the lines using Pro-Fit Quick Connects. Just make sure you have the right size the spec sheet is not always accurate.

Basically repaired line using 1/2 brass coupler deal, flaring the end. Did a pressure test, learned how to use the vacuum pump, learned a lot of really interesting skills. Sure could have saved money by hiring a local HVAC tech, but i want to know how this works, as much as i can.

System is basically working but i don't want to say that 100% yet, can't any water to come out of the drain plug so checking that today. AC worked great during testing yesterday for about 30 minutes to an hour, and then the same for heating. That is when i realized no condensation was coming out of any of the drain plugs, the one on the outdoor unit, and then the one connected by hose to the indoor.

Lets see what i can fix or break today

There’s a drain plug on the outdoor unit (condenser)?
 
I've noticed initially, they may run several hours before the condensation flow gets started. Humidity matters too. That would be from the INDOOR drain on A/C, and OUTDOOR on HEAT.

Does anybody else have experience with Pro Fit (Sharkbite for A/C lines). Looks interesting.
 
Follow-up - I have two EG4 24k units waiting to be installed. Need the extra lineset for at least one of these. Has anyone found a solution to use a 25' lineset? I know a tech will need to add more charge to the unit. I am trying to avoid splicing the line sets. These are about perfect w/ the exception of 25' option for lineset. I would pay an extra $250 a unit for that feature alone. Can actually get the unit away from the house properly and out of the sun. 16' too short.
 
In this video around 8:20, guy says he contacted EG4 and they offered him "dry" lineset extensions, not charged or evacuated, whatever the DIY versions of these have. I am sure MANY of us would like to know if that's true.?

I'd take a dry lineset option anyday. Vacuum would be needed and a tech onsite for $300 or so to complete it. At least the condenser could be located in a better situation.

Yup that is working, its on the bottom, and the other drain is also working now from the indoor had unit. just had the hoses kinked, seems like i like to kink things alot when installing, have to be more careful
 
Okay everyone, i have had this running now for the last 3 days, and well so far so good.

Spent a huge amount of time but that was okay as i was having fun.

Basically we cut the kinked line, flared it, then added a coupler, and that held.

Then i was able to figure out i needed to pressure test the lines with nitrogen, we got it up to 500psi

Then we were able to do the triple evacuation, and released the refrigant from the outside unit.

And its been working :) I'll try to post more pics and longer description later.

I wanted to thank the users on this forum for getting me where i am. Thank you all!

I owe you all a very nice thank you! I appreciate it all, as does my wife, and little wiener dog named Lucy :):)

Now i'm thinking of just getting some of those cheap chinese no warranty mini-splits versions from alibaba or aliexpress, they are about a 1/3 of the price, buy a pallet of them and start installing them everywhere i want. Hell after spending the last month working on this one, i feel like i can do anything! LOL :) Plus i have all these cool tools, need to keep using them :)

I'll send some pics in just a bit, incase anyone wants to see the crazy install i did.

Next week i'll work on how to test the system, make sure i'm getting the most i can out of it, etc
