Small solar addition to old Fifth Wheel

I'm not just a newbie but an oldie newbie. More about that at the end. Let's start with what I have: a 12 year old 34' fifth wheel with 2 6 volt batteries which are several years old. The OEM converter/charger which I would like to replace. We are not full time and never will be. We have used fifth wheels for over 20 years, almost totally with full electrical hookups. But I am an old dog who occasionally tries new tricks. We have planned a trip which will require several stops of 3 days with no hookup at all (such as National Forest). I would like to use some of these "suitcase" solar panels--maybe 200 watt. I think I understand the basic wiring setup required, but there is one hump I can't get over in my mind. I would like to use my 110 system which goes through the old converter/charger, which I would like to replace anyway. How can I wire from a new inverter right through my existing 110 wiring and still have 12 v DC? My batteries are in the very front compartment and I realize it would be better to have the inverter as nearby as possible. My converter/charter and panels are mid way, so about 15' from the batteries. We don't need much 110 power, just TV and laptops, fans, and perhaps coffeepot, but it would be so nice just to have that power using the existing wiring and outputs in the trailer. Maybe I just want to try it.

I have installed solar power for my large gate opener and lights so I have some awareness of the advantages and limits of such systems.

Now, as to why I don't want to go further than this into solar for the RV: I am well into my 80s. For that reason we have decided to keep the RV we have even though we could afford to get a new one. We like the one we have and it will last as long as I will. Call this an experiment or just a crazy idea. I have been watching Will's YouTube as well as many of the RV forums and YouTube channels, but none seems to address this particular wiring question.

I will appreciate any comments or suggestions. If you wish to email me, using corrected format: davidw at etex dot com.

I've been looking through all the posts and will be the first to reply to my own with a quote from PeterH:

Like just about every camper sold commercially, my camper has an AC/DC converter to provide DC power and charge the FLA batteries, when plugged in to shore power, or the generator is running. In my situation, I'd like to power my RV with an onboard inverter, by simply plugging my RV 30 amp plug into my inverter. BUT, other than having to remember opening the circuit breaker for the AC/DC converter each time, is there an automatic way to NOT power the converter when the AC is being generated by the onboard inverter?

At least similar in desired outcome.

Add a new AC distribution panel.
Supply this panel from the shore connection.
The second breaker is for the converter.
The third breaker goes to a transfer switch.
Position 1 of the transfer switch is shore power.
Position 2 is inverter power. Hard wired direct from the inverter.
The transfer switch supplies the original distribution panel's shore power breaker.
If you use an ATS vs manual the switching would be automatic. The source priority would determine which terminal gets shore power.

Thank you, SCClockDr for responding. I'm sure these are good suggestions, but for this old dog, I hope you or someone can fill in a lot of the steps to this outcome. You have to realize that I'm not that well informed or experienced. I hope you or someone can give me the steps I need to take to get to the point of your outline. I probably confused the issue by posting that quote. Please go back to my original post and let's go from there.

Note that I have an old converter/charger and am willing to change it. I've never had an inverter and need to know how these two modules relate and how they are wired.

Or at least point me in to the resources I need to consult. Otherwise, I don't know enough to even follow your very good suggestions.
