Hi all, I am completely new to solar and know very very little. It's something I've always been interested in but have not ventured into yet. However, I learned about the Jackery systems recently and they looked simple enough, and started thinking it was something even someone like me could do. My thoughts were to get one of the lower end units and a solar panel to run just some simple lights and maybe something else in the future - right now my main thoughts are lights. Currently I just use a bunch of the battery operated lanterns hanging throughout the barn and a flashlight. When I was trying to read up on this, though, I have come across two concerns - first, it sounds like the Jackery panels are not for use in all weather, and I would need something I could set up and leave up all the time. Second, I read something that make it sound like having it constantly charging would mess up the battery, that it should be drained before recharging. So.... I'd love some input on how to make this work, or alternate suggestions on something I could set up myself with no special skills. Thanks!

If it's just the lights, you can get away with just about anything.
Use 12V led bulbs. An old car battery. A crappy panel with a crappier controller.
Be happy :·)

The best option to receive information about solar system installation is specialists. No one will give you more accurate details than them. I also wanted to install a solar system, but at the same time, I also wanted to change my barn. And until the end, I did both. When I found out how much does a Quonset hut cost, I immediately changed my barn into a dome-shaped house, a Quonset hut style. Plus, some of them came with a solar system. I chose exactly that hut. I caught both desires in one. This is a smart step.
